Found Deceased NC - Devin Clark, 18, Lyric Woods, 14, found murdered, Alamance Co., Sept 2022 *ARREST* #2

Defendant was back in court today, for a bond hearing. Bond was denied.

Smart judge, perp already proved he is a runner. More details then I knew thank you for sharing the article.

The prosecutor explained some of the evidence investigators used to identify Ross as shooter and ultimately arrest him. That evidence included a witness who said Ross confessed to killing and dumping Woods and Clark's bodies.

The prosecutor also shared that Woods and Clark were shot at close range.

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Issiah Ross will remain locked up without bond, charged with the murders of Lyric Woods and Devin Clark, a judge ruled Tuesday.

[..]

The attorney said that Ross was not running away from law enforcement. In fact, Ross maintains his innocence in the case. Instead he says he was in Delaware because much of Ross' family lives there and he was staying with them at the time due to an argument he had with his mother who lives in North Carolina.

[..]

The prosecutor said autopsy findings revealed that Woods was shot at least four times, twice in the back and at least once at close range. Clark was shot five times, including three in his back and one to the back of his head.

It took investigators 36 hours to find the bodies of Woods and Clark last September, because they had been dragged and hidden behind a tall bush.

[..]

The motive behind the killings remains unknown, but the prosecutor revealed the gun used in the killings belonged to Clark's father. Clark reportedly brought it with him for the meet up.

[..]

His next scheduled court appearance is set for June 27.

Issiah Mehki Ross, who was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Lyric Woods and Devin Clark, appeared in court Tuesday as a judge denied bond.

[..]

Orange County Assistant District Attorney Anna Orr said that Woods and Clark were running away from Ross when they were shot, arguing that they were executed.

"I have to point out the heinousness of this event," Orr said. "Devin and Lyric were shot in the back while they were running away from this vehicle. They were shot outside the car. They were not shot inside the car. And the grouping of the shots show that they traveled some distance. They both had shots at close range. They were executed. This was not some struggle over a gun and the gun went off. This was much more serious than that."

[..]

Ross, who was 17 at the time of the crime, had a previous juvenile record in Delaware and was still on probation at the time of the shooting. Ross turned 18 in December.

[..]

A spokesperson from the Orange County Sheriff's Office says Ross had not been living in North Carolina for long. School records show Ross went to Eastern Alamance High School with Clark – but only for six days, at the beginning of the school year. Ross was enrolled from Aug. 29 to Sept. 3.

Young, promising lives were cut short. :(

A preventable tragedy.

Three teens sneak out of the house -- Clark carrying his father's gun.

Somehow Ross takes possession of the firearm and chases Lyric and Clark, shooting them multiple times in the back, dragging their bodies off the road, and hiding them in the brush.

Parents, families, and friends are forever broken. Hope the teens will take a lesson from their peers.

Has a motive for the killing ever been announced?
No-- motive remains unknown.

"Preliminary autopsy findings present that Lyric was shot at least four times. Twice in the back, once in the arm and once in the neck at close range causing stifling on her face. Devin was shot five times. Three times in the back, once in the foot at the bottom of his heel and once in the back of the head," said the prosecuting attorney.

The motive behind the killings remains unknown.

The prosecution argued that Ross' cellphone identified his location after the crimes were committed. Surveillance video obtained by investigators from the Petro Travel Center on Buckhorn Road shows a white GMC Terrain in the lot and Ross is visibly the driver.

According to the state's attorney a witness came forward stating Ross confessed to him that he had done something bad.

ABC News 11 - Ross denied bond

I thought Issiah Ross was supposed to be due back in court in June but haven’t heard anything .
I recall June 27 was set as the IR's next hearing date during during the January hearing when his bond was denied. Must have been continued.

No link to the docket but did find the link to the Court calendar for Orange County but it's only good for 5 days so can't go back to June schedule.

ETA: Found new hearing date!

“We have some theories and we have some evidence, but we can’t speculate as to motive at this time,” OCSO Public Information Officer Alicia Stemper said, in comments reported by the News & Observer. “I don’t know if we’ll ever know (motive) in this case.”

“We don’t always know the motive,” Stemper added.

While the motive remains, at least publicly, elusive, the newspaper reportedly obtained some indication of the defendant’s state of mind after the shootings during his subsequent travel across the country.

[..]

A SoundCloud page attributed to Ross using the handle and stage name, @Mi$tr3 and m3lean, respectively, shows that multiple songs were uploaded within days of Woods’ and Clark’s deaths.

One song, titled “Glass,” contains lyrics about a “head shot” and “riding round with a new Glock,” though such references are arguably standard fare for certain varieties of hip-hop music.

In another song “In Th3 Akorn I Trust,” the narrator says: “I got red inside my car like I’m sipping on blood. So much red inside my car like in the Akorn I trust. Got some 🤬🤬🤬🤬 I can’t talk about, I cannot discuss.”

The newspaper also reported that one of the victims, Clark, followed Ross’s page. Ross, however, did not follow Clark back.
