I wasn't either. When they said she may have dementia or some type of cognitive impairment, I thought there may have been some kind of accident, but not murder. So terribly sad. :(
MOO

Same, but now I wonder if the dementia part was even true or if it was just made up by her husband.

Philip Brock is scheduled to make an initial appearance in Brunswick County Court Thursday.

Authorities searching for woman | Sampson Independent
Hmmm. I wonder if her vehicle was spotted and reported abandoned.

"It was not clear as of press time Wednesday evening where in the county the body was discovered. The search for her body was ongoing earlier in the day, five days after she went missing from her Brunswick residence, seemingly after authorities received tip in the investigation into her whereabouts."

"On Wednesday, the search for Judy Brock converged on Sampson County, the southern tip of which is some 70 miles away from Brock’s home, where she was last seen."

People who knew JB knew she didn't have dementia. I assumed it was used to enable a silver alert. She was very involved in her community. Her car was left at the home. I'm wondering if cell phone pings played a part in finding her or if someone knew the husband had ties to Sampson Co. I'm just glad her family has some answers, as terrible as they are to know.

Sadly we know how most the the missing wives/girlfriends cases will end.

I was thinking that until I saw his mugshot. He's older and looks his age. I'm wondering if there was a financial motive (life insurance policy or inheritance).

Grrrrr!

"According to Assistant District Attorney Glenn Emory, the District Attorney’s Office believes Phillip requested a Silver Alert be issued Friday, March 15 in an effort to throw authorities off the track of his involvement with his wife’s death."

Well, it certainly threw me off. At first, I immediately thought the husband had done something to her. Then, when I read about the "dementia" issue, I figured that she had wandered off and felt foolish for jumping to conclusions.

Moral of the story: trust your gut instincts.

My initial hope was that she went for a walk to see a beach sunrise — and I agree with you all this was a sad twist. I feel for their family and friends.

So sad. I wonder if there was a history of domestic violence. Deliberately raising that silver alert is concerning.

We don’t have silver alert in Australia. Just did some quick research and the idea has been floated for a couple of years as we have over 425,000 people suffering from dementia. There are 130 missing at any time, most are men and if found deceased it will be within 1.6 klms or 1 mile from home.

I initially assumed this was probably a long term marriage because of the ages but I guess we do not know any of that. I wonder what the history is--first wife, second wife, etc. Prior record on his part or domestics or nothing at all? It seems a bit out of the norm compared to many of the cases we see. They apparently they feel they have enough at the moment any how to charge first degree which would make me think there may be something to show some planning or premeditation...?

I think I read they lived in the home since 1999

Holden Beach man held without bond in wife's murder - WWAY TV
The GPS inside a Ford f150 is what led investigators to Sampson County, where the body of Judy Brock Brown was found on Wednesday.

That’s what prosecutors revealed during a court appearance for her husband, Phillip Harry Brock, 71, who is charged with her murder.

[...]

Investigators were able to use the date on the truck to determine it was driven to a wooded area in Sampson County on Friday, which is the same day Brock said he last saw his wife.

According to online records, Phillip Brock was a registered forester with the State of North Carolina.

Brock is charged with first degree murder. He will remain in jail without bond. A probable cause hearing is set for April 2.

Investigators: Husband claimed wife had impairment to cover tracks
Investigators say a Holden Beach man accused of murdering his wife falsely claimed she was mentally impaired in an attempt to cover his tracks.

[...]

If convicted, Brock faces the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

[...]

It appears that Brock went directly to the Holden Beach Police Department Friday evening to report his wife missing.

According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Emily Flax, the county’s 911 center received a call from a Holden Beach police officer at 8:53 p.m. Friday reporting Judy Brock missing.

The drive from Holden Beach to the southernmost part of Sampson County is roughly 1-and-a-half hours. Sampson County stretches from Harrells to Newton Grove, with U.S. 421 running roughly up the county’s middle.

[...]

After Brock’s court appearance Thursday, Emory said that investigators were still working to determine a potential motive in Judy Brock’s slaying.

He said Judy Brock’s body was discovered Wednesday just before her husband’s arrest, and a search warrant has been executed at the couple’s 198 Greensboro Street home. Brunswick County property records indicate they have owned the house since 1999.

[...]

According to the group’s website, Judy Brock served as president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Holden Beach, a local chapter of a national women’s civic group.

Brock will be represented on a temporary basis by public defender Teresa Gibson. Records from the N.C. Department of Public Safety indicate that Brock does not have any prior convictions in North Carolina.

“We’re all shocked”

The couple’s home was a crime scene Wednesday night.

According to WECT’s Ben Smart on the scene, crime scene tape surrounded the home located on Greensboro Street. Several law enforcement and forensic investigators were on the property.

Residents of Greensboro Street, who are mostly retired, said investigators have been in and out of the home all weekend.

“We are all shocked. Nobody expected this,” a neighbor said.

According to the neighbor, Judy was a retired teacher of Brunswick County Schools. She was also the president of the General Federation Women’s Club of Holden Beach, according to the organization’s website.

AL, a member of the women’s club, tells WECT Judy taught French at West Brunswick High School.

“Judy was our president and loved dearly by our membership. We are truly devastated by the news and our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” AL said.
