GUILTY NC - Kathleen Peterson, 48, found dead in her Durham home, 9 Dec 2001

So, the Le Chat Noir picture is the actual print from the apartment in Germany, or just another he bought and it happened to be the same? That picture has always caught my eye any time I watch something on TV about the murder, because I have the same print hanging in my home. I tend to disagree that he had it there for the black cat symbology - it's a popular piece of art, and I know I certainly don't have it for the black cat symbology. I just love old fashioned "ads" like that, and it's in a room I have decorated with other vintage prints. In fact, I used to use it on my signature line here on WS.

I just watched another show about this case on A&E last night at 2:00 am, and it reaffirmed my opinion that he's guilty, no question about it.

I will also be checking NetFlix to see this documentary - I didn't know there was one out about this.

Thank you for posting the link from his sister, I'm bookmarking it to read.

I see what you are saying Simon. However, I find it uncoincidental that he retained very few of Elizabeth Ratliff's possessions...including that Black Cat poster. But he went out and purchased one just like it and hung it right at the bottom of a creepy staircase in his 12000 sq. foot mansion. Of all the walls, and of all the prints one could pick out, he picks out one identical to one hanging in his first victim's home and hangs it, symbolically at the very area in his home which represents where he murdered her. And then he murders his second victim right at the feet..err..paws of that cat. Too many "coincidences" for me. Kathleen's blood was spattered all over that print.

I'm sure my daughter said that she had seen quite a few of Liz's possessions in Michael Petersons house , and she is sure that the Black Cat poster was the one that Liz had .

There is a good murder case on TLC right now, 6-7pmEST called "The New Detectives" Seems wifey didn't fall down the steps, hubby pushed her and then beat her with a fireplace tool which left bft on her and cast-off on him

The strange little tool was a blowpoke. I had never heard of a blowpoke until I read about that case last year.

I know, lol, I love your choice of words.....

The documentary, Death on the Staircase, was really good. When they discovered that blowpoke, I felt Peterson was lying through his teeth about how it got there.

His former "friend" in Germany died from a fall down her staircase as well!!!!!

This is the case where Dr. Lee spit ketchup on a mock up wall during the trial in an attempt to prove that the blood on the wall there was Kathleen coughing with her hand over her mouth. That was the most ridiculous stunt... if you are being beaten to death are you going to politely cover your mouth while you are coughing blood all over a wall.

Does ketchup mimic blood in any manner except for the color?

Technically these seem inept to me right now. The properties of blood seem way to complicated to just grab some ketchup and say, here look. Realize I still have my learning curve.

And don't forget his first wife ...or was that another stairway case. Geez, I am starting to get these cases mixed up. LE must have to keep cheat sheets to keep them straight. hahahah.

If you are just talking about spatter, etc, you can probably use anything with a like consistency. Probably not a good idea to transfuse it though.

Nothing odd about it. The guy had a temper.

It was the inside stairs as well. The ME or whatever Germany's answer is for him/her listed the death as an accident...a brain aneurism. Then they exhumed her body during his trial and discovered at least six blows to the head.

Her name was Elizabeth Ratliff.

Here's a link to her autopsy

His first wife is very much alive and still living and teaching in Germany.

It was their friend remember, the wife of his buddy he served with in the military/Vietnam. The mother of Martha and Margaret, his adopted daughters.

You know what they say she might have covered her mouth out of habit not politeness.

Yeah right even as she is being beaten to death with a blowpoke out of habit she covers her mouth. Sorry Dr. Lee, that blood was cast-off and transfers from her hair and head as she tried to avoid that blow poke.

Dr. Lee also proclaimed there was "too much blood for murder" had to be an accident.

I bet Peterson is quite content in prison. He can have all the bubbas he wants behind bars.

Here's a link to that crime scene photo...

It's not a close up so you will have to judge for yourselves what you think of the blood.

Wasn't there another Peterson on trial about the same time with the same name? Maybe he is the one with two dead wives. Shoot, if I remember.

I do remember the friend in Germany. He adopted her daughters after she died. But for some reason I keep remembering another woman somewhere in the states who died mysteriously. Maybe it was the guy on trial for killing his neighbor. Did he have a dead wife in the past? He was a Peterson, too, wasn't he? He was acquitted for killing the elderly neighbor even after admitting he did it. I think my brain is on overload.
