Had to do with the ease in which people would adjust to having to show birth certificates...not that it really matters much because I was wrong on procedure.

Thank you for your oh so honest post. I really appreciate all the posters here. We all seem to help each other through these sad cases. Everyone here CARES.

I'm still waiting for JUSTICE for Shaniya. I wish she didn't die. I wish she would have had a great time with her family during this most Holy season, but she's in a gone now. So sad for the ones that loved her on this earth. :(

I buried a feather the day Shaniya was found, on my mountain in here NM. Feathers are proof that God answers prayers ... in my faith.

A preliminary report from the state Medical Examiner's Office said Shaniya died from asphyxiation.
Davis and McNeill are being held in state prison facilities in Raleigh until their trial dates next year.
Following the discovery of Shaniya's body, community organizers held prayer services and candlelight vigils in memory of the slain child. Leaders from the faith community said it takes all members of a family and the community to raise and protect a child.
The Lockhart family set up a memorial fund in Shaniya's name to help cover the cost of her funeral.
But the family said that money would be donated to community groups that work with neglected children after NBA star Shaquille O'Neal, so touched by Shaniya's story, paid for the funeral himself.

From your link ^^^^ and TY for posing the latest.
"The State Bureau of Investigation was brought in at the request of the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office to examine record-keeping at the county Department of Social Services, which investigated Antoinette Davis earlier in the year".

Good to know the $ was donated to community groups (from the link). That's GOOD. jmo

Noted an I respect your opinion too but I am just curious, you see him as a victim who was just 1/2 asleep? just curious.because I think he would have had to be 1/2 zonked out / clueless about AD's situation, location, condition.

It is my opinion that he believed what AD told him. I believe that she lied and lied just to get what she wanted. He was not home, he was out of state. He gave her a chance. I know that he regrets it and blames himself. That's enough blame for me. I will not blame him. I don't know a single "perfect" parent. We all make mistakes time to time and this mistake cost him his daughter. I place the blame on the 2 that are sitting in jail right now.

I realize I am one of only a few that feels this way. I respect other's opinions.

Like I've said before, if it comes out that he fully knew what the conditions were and he allowed her to go there, I will be with y'all in blameing him. But at the time, I just don't see it that way.

From the start "locals" said that "Sleepy Hollow" was about the worst place in town...a place to get drugs or a prostitute...just knowing the address of the run down rental trailer park should have been a "warning" to BL

I said from the start I would not board a dog or a cat without checking an animal hotel , references, look on internet, visit, even give them a "test night" to see how it worked out

~~~~~
oh...and regarding the "cover up" ideas...I feel that there is some "hincty" stuff going on regarding the social services....why are they taking so long to do some "internal affairs" type investigation of what went down regarding their interaction/s with AD and her child/ren?
  • #606
I think social services dropped the ball on this one too. To what extent, I have no clue.
I think BL made bad choices. To what extent, I have no clue.
But, I absolutely believe AD and MAM killed this child. I have no doubt about that.
I feel the same way, you explained it very well!!!
OK I can never argue with that. It is MAM and Ad who need to rot in jail LWOP.
It is DSS that is always blaming being short of funds, understaffed for all their really bad mistakes. Because they are dealing with Children, and children is a category where information can be privet :waitasec: so they can hide their chit.
I also agree that I do not know any human beings that have not made mistakes, ME included, and I also am an advocate to give people a chance.
The problem I have with any notion that BL did not know is that everyone knows about that area. It is no secret, not even to those who live under a rock. So when I Say I point fingers I am not saying he killed her. I am saying he took his eyes off the ball, as did his sister.
I agree with you as well. BL will forever have to live with the ultimate decision that led to the horrific fate of his daughter. Let him live with his guilt without us having to do any more damage or add to any more of the grief he is experiencing with our finger pointing. Same with CDL. I have seen CDL's interviews and not one of them have I been able to watch with dry eyes. They both really loved this angel, that is very evident. And what we have to understand is that AD was the mother, and convinced both BL and CDL that she wanted to be in Shaniya's life. Who wouldn't want a mother and child to be close? It's obvious AD was absent for most of Shaniya's life and obviously BL thought it was time for her to be involved. Also, no parent in their wildest imagination could conceive such a horrendous possibility that the mother of their child would plot to use their child as a pawn to pay their drug debt??? I have every hatred towards AD and MAM and am hoping and praying with every molecule of my body that they are punished and both receive the death penalty. I don't have enough in me to blame the one parent she has left in this world who is grieving for his child. Let us focus on the two in custody and just hope they get what's coming to them.
Well...I could say "let's focus on BL since the other 2 are in custody and being dealt with in a court of law
there is NO evidence at all that AD said she "wanted to be a mother" to Shaynia...when and how did she "convince" them???
IF either had gone inside that messy trailer with 2 grown felon guys living in it, do we think that BL would still have "sent" her over there?
WELL ...HE DIDN'T BOTHER TO GO IN...HE DIDN'T CHECK ON HER...HE DIDN'T CHECK TO SEE THAT SHE WAS IN SCHOOL...HE DIDN'T CHECK TO SEE IF SHE WAS OK...DID HE??
look at that nasty trailer...in the worst part of town, DRUG TOWN,and contrast that to the nice house where Shaynia had her little scooter, her toys and dolls
we still don't know how long she was in that h//llhole....did BL even speak to her on the phone??
You think your way and I will continue to think mine...and some of MY focus will be on BL and what he did/didn't do...thanks
I think the bad choices are pretty evident....she is dead...yes, MAM and AD to blame...but she was brought there and left there...
He knew what sort of area this was...and I bet he had some idea of what sort of "woman" AD was....
or he should have checked
would you drop your dog off at a pet hotel/kennel without checking it out?? I would hope not
The state is taking care of AD and MAM....hopefully they will solidify the charges against AD
I don't feel the state is doing a good job either
but that doesn't exonerate BL in "my" book....I am so glad to not see his weepy preachy face on tv...very happy to not see him
I don't want some unneeded money grubbing foundation with him at the head...I don't want to hear him preach to others when he didn't even bother to check where she was going to stay, didn't even care if she was in school or not...did she even have a cell phone?? I still have a LOT of unanswered questions about the whole lot of them
as for AD...I don't know what the state is waiting for...very frustrating
They said the money "would be donated"...so was it?? To which group was it donated and how much??
I personally thought BL had a lot of nerve to set up a fund when he could get a loan or whatever...
I have watched all of the same things too and I too cried my eyes out this senseless death was horrific and that beautiful angel suffered incredibly. and the shock is still not over; So I imagine that BL and CDL are still in great pain and had never in their widest imagination dreamed of poor Shaniya being Sold for God sake it makes your body cringe just at the thought of something like that.....But we did see brother and sister hardly looking at each other, him walking into the house, when she spoke and fall a part by herself out side...YES they were NOT GETTING ALING......and why? Why were brother and sister at odds? Could it be because they did know that area where AD lived is dangerous, and that Shaniya is walking in to a danger zone. YES after the shock I started to wonder....some areas are just not a secret....Do I think he had malice NO...Do I think he is mindless - YES. People with children do have to use their heads at least about basic things like safety.
Don't rush it :) there is still going to be a resting place for Shaniya and they do have time to donate it.
I am sure they are being watched. :D
not to worry
There are things that "stick" in my mind about this case...the picture of that little angel with the monster in front of the elevator
...the early posts on the "local" blogs where so many people said how bad "Sleepy Hollow" is....like the worst part of town...the name meant "drugs and prostitutes"...
they all seemed to recognize the place as being really bad and dangerous
....the contrast between the trailer and BL's home
....yes, the way the "brother and sister" seem to barely speak or look at each other
I am sure they are full of regret...but I think the public has to really look at what he/they did....and realize that parents can't "slack off" or take an "out"...I personally think BL rationalized his decision...and it backfired horribly in a way that he never expected
but since Shaynia's death other parents have made equally bad decisions (ie, the aunt of little Sarah in Maryland)
Maybe we need to be more "harsh" on them to prevent future tragedies
The one ray of hope I have is that something could be learned...changed...another tragedy prevented
(snip, bbm) And I'm still seeing no semblance of due diligence which I'm unwilling to sweep under the rug at the expense of future children, or stories like Shaniya's.
W/out exception--but particularly in shared parenting situations where there isn't intimacy or familiarity w the other parent, where there have been any questions re a person's past, custody etc--it is a parent's responsibility to become fully aware, to look into safety of living conditions, and to check out whether a 'real change has been made,' etc.
People, "Give someone a chance" w your own life if you must. Not w a child's.
We aren't talking about "being perfect," a little "mistake," or something "no one could've known" was a "poor choice."
"Who wouldn't want a mother and child to be close?" Like Susan Smith's boys eg? Gosh and I honestly hoped we'd moved beyond the myth that being an egg- or a sperm donor automatically qualified one for parenting. And especially in any case where either parent has been periodically absent, inconsistent, noncommunicative, or just disconnected for any portion of their child's life I think it goes w/out saying greater diligence is required. Greater caution, more stringent questioning, and thorough observation. And then greater accountability, and greater communication throughout the duration of a child's stay.
There's alot of evil out there people. Because it's a blood relation doesn't exempt, immune or protect children (nor any of us) from those dangers--nor should it exempt any responsible, vigilant parent from exercising diligence, sound judgment and employing reasonably cautious measures to protect a child. And IMO leaving Shaniya at Creepy #ellhole was neither responsible nor reasonable.
So many people left Shaniya down.
It angers me that the people who are suppose to love and protect her
just threw her away.........period!
BL,aunt,momster and murderer! all guilty as far as I'm concerned.......
