I heard on FAUX News tonight that the accused may not even testify if this makes it to trial, what kind of case could it possibly be without DNA, and the accuser won't testify?

From the description, this was a case of bait and switch with at least one seriously impaired performer and a dance that only went on for about 3-4 minutes. This is a standard recipe for angry clients. What I suspect is that there was a lot of bad blood on the part of the lacrosse team as they felt they had been ripped off, and some choice, racially-loaded language was thrown back and forth, as well as verbal threats and ugliness--but I strongly suspect that was all. And I'm unsure if half of the money was taken back or refunded, which is standard in situations like this one. In any case, I found it highly telling that Jesse Jackson stated that he would help the victim whether it turned out her story was true or not--which suggests even HE has his doubts. Which says a lot, when you think about the people he's allied himself with over the last couple of years.

I agree with you; this scenario fits with a lot of the evidence. I would like to know what the accuser was doing prior to arriving at the party in order to make sense of her medical exam findings.

I heard something similiar on Abrams. I can't imagine this case going forward without the accuser. Shades of the Kobe Bryant accuser. And I won't be the least bit surprised to see the accuser decide not to go forward.

I'm sitting squarely on the fence on this one. On one hand, I cannot imagine why a girl would put herself through this. I cannot even fathom going to a hospital ER for a rape exam if I hadn't been assaulted... for that matter, even if I HAD been, that would seem to add insult to injury. So to put yourself through that, it's just unimaginable to me.

On the other hand... the boys would have to be complete fools to think they could pull this off. I mean, not just ONE dancer there- but 2. All those witnesses (team mates and other people), you would think there would be someone there who could corroborate the girl's story.

NONE of it makes sense. This DA either has something he's not giving out, or this case will go nowhere... except to ruin the reputation of a good school team, some kids' who's names have been publicly named, and that means that some kids' lives will never be the same. Oh, and one man lost his job. A very well respected job too.
I'm on the fence. If this turns out that the girl is making it up though, that's 2 HUGE steps back for every real rape victim out there.

I wouldn't compare escorts with street hookers. Escorts usually range between $175-$800 a hour. Street hookers are available for whatever a rock of crack or a bump of meth is going for.

I don't know anything about the two strippers on a personal level, but they didn't look any different than women who have been arrested while I was watching "Cops."

Reade Seiligman's attorney is seeking the accuser's education, criminal, health records etc. The attorney believes that the prosecution has nothing on his client except for the accuser's statement and is looking for information that could challenge her credibility. I'm sure we'll be hearing all kinds of dirt in the media about the alleged victim if there is anything to dig up. I'm still sitting on the fence on this one, although leaning towards believing something happened in that house that night,I'm not ruling out revenge on the dancer's part for the boys ripping her off . I'd hate to see the victim smeared if she was indeed raped. Unfortunately without any corroborating evidence at all it becomes her word against his and it appears as if he has some real evidence to show he could not have raped her during the time frame alleged.

The Judge in Kobe Bryant's rape case ruled that the accuser's past mental health issues would be allowed to come in at trial.

I closely followed that case, and I think that ruling could well have saved Kobe from conviction. He did not have a lot going for him other than that ruling and his money.

Apparently the attorney feels there is more than the cab stealing incident out there and has filed a motion to get everything he can on the alleged victim.

I think I have tracked down the escort agency the girls were hired through.

The judge makes the determination when the time comes as to what, if any, information can be introduced.

DURHAM - The father of the accuser in the rape case involving Duke University lacrosse players said his daughter was raped with a broomstick during a party last month, and that explains defense lawyers' claims that no DNA from players was found on her.

The woman's father, appearing on MSNBC's "Rita Cosby Live & Direct" Tuesday night, said his daughter told him that when three team members raped and sodomized her, they also used a broom.

The father said he learned about the broom from others, "and then she told me afterwards because she didn't want me to know that part," he said. (More at link)

Several Duke lacrosse players who say they were at a team party the night of the alleged rape of a 27-year-old woman have told ESPN's George Smith that an argument over money and the amount of time two exotic dancers were expected to perform was at the center of a dispute that night.
The players, who agreed to speak with ESPN on the condition their names not be used, also admitted that slurs and bad language were used by some players and the dancers during the argument.

I hate to tell dear ol' Dad, but a broomstick would leave a hell of a lot more evidence behind than a human would, and nothing has been mentioned along those lines.

I heard on Oprah that a lot of AA men are also "bisexual." So, couldn't a fear of contracting something like AIDS also play into this resistance?
