It is so sad to see that people think women are so worthless that they do not see the degradation of women in this.

Consent is an interesting concept. I would venture that most women who do this are victims of some sort of abuse sometime in their life. They “consent” because they have been ripped of their worth.

For instance, Stormy Daniels makes a ton of money, but her story is one of being abused as a child.

Everyone who buys these services is continuing the abuse.

As a woman, I rail against the idea that women are not even considered to be human. What is the difference between the US and Saudi Arabia.

I have a (not very close)friend who revealed to me recently that she is/was a prostitute. She only revealed this to me because she was arrested, and we share a business connection, so I was likely to hear it eventually. She is a college graduate who had two jobs (lost both when arrested). She claims she was a prostitute because she liked it. (That is something I cannot fathom doing, even in the event I was dead broke.) She made $400 an hour. I do not believe there were any restrictions on clients other than that they could pay her.
I cannot help but think this 28 year old had to have had sexual abuse in her childhood to have chosen this way to make extra money in a very seedy area near a southern college town. A normal female would not choose or be able to stomach this.

At $400, she was offering “specialty” services. She is very lucky to still be alive. She should consider the arrest a blessing, a second chance, and get in to therapy immediately. I think it's probably accurate that people who go into prostitution likely have some childhood abuse/trauma in their past. It's a sad thing to think about - that their clients "benefit" from that trauma, that the client's sexual gratification comes from someone else's pain.

While I'd like to think that decent people don't take advantage of another's pain (wishful thinking), the question in this particular case, imo, is: are the women trafficked?

Are they in control of their own money and do they have a say in whether they are performing these jobs or not? Are they free to leave their housing? Is their housing decent? Are they free to leave the area, to walk away completely from the job? Do they have access to their identification records, money, etc? And, of course, are they physically hurt?

I really don't care if some men want someone to touch their penis and are willing to pay for that. I do care, however, if the person providing that service is doing it because crimes are committed against them (forced labor, assault, false imprisonment).

Let's say I want a sandwich - I'm willing to pay someone to make it and serve it to me, but I sure don't want to be part of a slave doing the work.

My guess would be it's possible for prostitutes are more likely to have freedom and be drug-free when prostitution is legal. I can also envision people being prostitutes (legal or not) who are not drugged, not forced and are simply in it for the money, but I'm not convinced that is the situation in this case, which this thread is about. Maybe they are gainfully and willingly employed in this profession, maybe not.

To be honest, I have no opinion on whether prostitution should be legal or not. It's just not a topic that particularly interests me. In this particular case, which this WS thread is about, what interests me is whether or not this is a situation of trafficking. I don't care about the wankers of old men, but I am interested in making sure people in our country are not captive and/or coerced.

Again, I don't know what is happening with the workers in this case.

I don't think the women got any cut from the money in this particular situation. Maybe some spending money once in awhile, but not control of their own finances. Just my hunch.

They say many of the women came from China under the guise of legitimate jobs in the spas, were forced to work in the sex trade and confined to the venues, eating and sleeping in the back of the businesses.
