More than 100 rally for N.J. educator who has been missing for over a week - nj.com
Over 100 administrators, board members, teachers and staff from the Linden School District came together Friday to support their colleague Brian Gooney who has been missing since early last week.

Security camera footage shows Gooney, 55, a paraprofessional at Soehl Middle School in Linden, walking out of his Rahway apartment building around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9. It was the last time anyone saw him.

Gooney’s car remains in the parking lot of his building, his sister-in-law told NJ Advance Media earlier this week. His cell phone was not located in the apartment, so she assumes he took it with him — but, when she calls, it goes straight to voicemail. He hasn’t responded to text messages.

Linden education community rallies to raise awareness about missing colleague

Administrators, Board of Education members, teachers, and support staff came together Friday for the “Bring Brian Home” rally at Tiger Stadium on Cooper Football Field on West Curtis Street to support Gooney’s family members and to spread the word about the need to find him.

Eloy Delgado, Linden Education Association president, said more than 1,000 district staff members stand in solidarity with Gooney.

His family members, including his sister Bernadette and brother Patrick, spoke briefly to thank everyone who gathered and the Rahway and Linden police departments for their search efforts. His family filed a missing persons report with Rahway police.

One theory explored is that he walked out of his apartment building, which is near a river, and went into the water. But, there has been no trace of him there -- or any where.

More information is needed about this river - proximity to apartments, is it plausible someone could fall in accidentally at night if it was dark, is it difficult to climb/ swim out of, can he swim? Etc.

I looked up Main Street in Rahway NJ in Google maps.

There’s an apartment complex on that street, The Rahway Apartment Complex/Plaza It is in fact in close proximity of The Rahway River.
Just as close to the river is The Water’s Edge at Rahway; it appears to be an apartment complex as well on Main St.

Farther up Main St there seems to be another apartment building (also close to the Rahway River) called Meridia Lafayette Village Apartments.

A few things I would think would have been investigated by now but wanted to bring them up here just in case.

Have they looked into the possibility that he was going to meet someone for a potential purchase or sale (comic book etc). It would make sense if the meetup location was close enough to walk to it and only take what you need (phone/wallet). Maybe he was robbed and it went bad? They should look into any accounts with buying/selling apps like Offer Up as well as Facebook marketplace. There would be messages between the seller and him.

I’m not sure of his medical history but any kind of hidden drug use or even a brain tumor etc could make someone behave extremely erratically. Walk off in the dark, maybe enter the river, forget who they are or where they are going...

This is a few towns away from me. I have a bad feeling about this. Going out at that time makes me feel he was depressed or meeting someone.

We may not know him, but he seems like a nice person and special teacher.

Union County Teacher Brian Gooney Now Missing 2 Weeks

Brian Gooney, a teacher in the Linden Public Schools who assisted with special education students, has been missing for two weeks as of Tuesday.

Despite a recent rally at school on Friday to bring him home, as well as media attention, the last clues from his disappearance are two weeks old.

Gooney's missing persons file, added on March 15 to NamUs.gov (the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System), shows a still from a video of Gooney walking through the parking garage of his Rahway apartment complex wearing a printed long-sleeved shirt, dark pants, and a facemask on the night of Tuesday, March 9.

Does it look like he has a lot of stuff in both of his pockets?

Also, curious that for Last Known Location on NamUs they link to Google Maps with these coordinates, which shows me to be the intersection of Elm Ave and Campbell St, which is further west of Main St (Main St is said to be where his apt is). Wonder why.

I was looking at his Twitter just now (Thanks, @mlhenn) and had an observation, but then I had another concerning one when I looked at his replies:

The first observation was that on March 7, just 2 days before going missing, he sounded in a positive and lighthearted frame of mind posting that he was gonna “tell my future grandkids” something. But when I looked at “replies” I thought: was he being harassed by some troll? Anyone else notice that?

wow yes that person was definitely bullying him recently! How hateful! One of that persons links is to a fb , someone named Kristine. It looks like Brian is in her profile pic but I’m not 100% sure?

I usually don’t “see” what everyone else sees in photos...the parking garage photo looks like cell in one pocket and fabric/bulky something in the other. Extra face mask plus sanitizer? NJ has been #1 for new cases for several weeks now, I think, and a lot more people are now double-masking. Maybe an extra mask to wear into a shop or restaurant? JMO.
