I posted the last NJ gang report on the prior thread and Cumberland County as of the last report date had an estimated 600 individuals that were members of various gangs.

There appear to be 2 gangs operating in Cumberland County as of the last report date that had more than 100 members. The Bloods (clothing color RED) appear to be the dominant gang in terms of membership with a reported membership of 350 in 2010 (its unclear from the report IMO if the Bloods are unified as a group or whether the gang is composed of various 'sets' of separate groups under a broader Bloods umbrella).

The gang situation is somewhat fluid and the report was dated 2010 so many changes could have occurred unfortunately. The report also says that the Bloods don't typically target the public and are focused on drug distribution and petty theft type crime. There are various Crips affiliated gangs operating in Cumberland County as well at the time of the last report date.

Here is the report again from 2010 for more info on a complex network of gangs across the State of NJ:

I haven’t had a chance to catch up since this morning - apologies if picture of billboard has already been posted. Also sorry for poor quality. This is the third one I have seen today and even further north than the others. This is Route 46 WB Totowa/Wayne.

Is there a dominant gang in this area?

MS-13 Gang Threat In NJ: Here's Where They've Been Found

There is a MS-13 gang presence in Bridgeton.
From what I've seen, two of the most prevalent gangs in the area (NY, NJ) are bloods and crips.

They are in conflict with each other, and most violent crimes are against each other, rather than random people not involved with gangs. They usually leave everybody else alone.

I have never known them to have anything to do with child abduction, they mostly commit robbery or are dealing drugs.

I don't know much about the other gangs, but I have heard of what MS-13 is capable of. IMO

When Noemi speaks you can tell Spanish is her primary language. She speaks like my grandmothers speak.

I would not pick apart what she says.

That's a very good point and something we should keep in mind.
I've worked with ESL students for many years, and I used to misunderstand them on a regular basis.
Once you become more accustomed to their word usage it's easier to understand. Imo

Poor thing. She says that Dulce was scared of the dark and didn’t like to sleep by herself so every night when it gets dark the whole family gets sad thinking of her out there without her family. It’s hard to watch :(

"She said the search had been incredibily difficult for the family, saying she and her parents have missed so much work that they have lost their jobs and are relying on food stamps.

Dulce María and her family live in Bridgeton, a small Latino-majority city of 25,000 surrounded by one of the most rural areas of the state. It's the seat of Cumberland County, which is the leading producer of vegetables, potatoes, melons, flowers and sod in the state.

A third of Bridgeton's residents live in poverty and nearly three in 10 lack health care insurance. It is 51% Latino, according to U.S. Census figures, but some locals believe it could be as much as 70-80% Latino."

ugh, from above, I'm so upset, the workplace fired the family?!? What an awful thing to do when this family is obviously hurting.

When Noemi mentions that Dulce "has nothing to do with the problems of the past" and touches on that I took it as guilt. I am Latina and was raised around a lot of different Latin ethnicities (Mexican, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Central American) and one thing a lot of the old school Latino's have is a strong Catholic guilt. They believe when something happens it's God "punishing" them for something that happened in the past. Noemi may feel that what she's done in her past is being taken out on her daughter but not necessarily by someone she knows...but my Karma or God or religion.

I know when my husband's cousin died his mother just went on and on about if God wanted to punish her he should have punished her and not taken it out on her son. It's been years and she still mentions it from time to time.

This is exactly how I also took it also. That old Catholic guilt is ingrained in us (Spain here) from birth. Bad things happen due to actions or inactions of the past.

Yup. And considering Noemi's past (sex before marriage, children out of wedlock, drug use, alcohol use, arguing with her mother) she probably feels it very strongly. I also wonder if things have been said in anger at her home between the family. Not only was she the one with her, and some may say she wasn't adequately supervising her, but she's the one with the "bad past." I feel really bad for Noemi.

So do I. You can tell she’s been beating herself up. I hope she has someone who is there helping her through all of this - a victim’s advocate or similar who can remind her this is not her fault but that of the man who took Dulce.

Horrible! Both parents lost their jobs. I think their place of employment has been mentioned, I can't remember off hand.
