Dulce Maria Alavez
  • Bridgeton, New Jersey
  • Went Missing: Sept. 16, 2019
  • Status: Pending
Then 5 years old, Dulce Maria Alavez has been missing for a little more than three years. She was last seen playing by a swing set in Bridgeton with her little brother. There is not a lot of evidence of what happened to Dulce, but authorities believe she may have been lured into the back of a red van by a 5-foot-8-inch male, about 30-35 years old with acne. Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae told NewsNation in April that in the absence of evidence suggesting Dulce was dead, hope was being held out she could be found alive. Webb-McRae said in a December email to NewsNation that the case is still open, and investigators continue to get leads and sightings from the public. “Every lead is followed up on,” she said. Dulce’s family says the little girl loved princesses and was “spunky.” A Christmas tree lighting in her memory was planned for Dec. 16.

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Dulce Maria Alavez should call the Bridgerton City Police Department at 856-451-0033.

Family and friends of Dulce Alavez gathered Sunday in the park where she went missing to celebrate her 9th birthday and bring attention to her disappearance.

The tree and garden named in her honor at Bridgeton City Park was the focus of the party with cake and cupcakes with a theme of "Frozen," Dulce's favorite Disney movie.

"It's been hard all these years since we haven't got any answers about the disappearance," her mother Noema Alavez told NBC Philadelphia.

Family friend Brenda Trinidad said they still don't know what really happened to Dulce that day as she played in the playground with her younger brother.

I share Dulce’s birthday so I always think of her.

I saw on the news where a man attempted to lure a 7 year old boy in a Wawa bathroom with candy. The boy said the man grabbed him by the arm. Fortunately the boy ran back to his family. Hope they catch the guy.

This was in Maurice River which is in the same county as Bridgeton. Not a very populated county of New Jersey.

This is the first I have heard of a different scenario of what happened in the park, which differs from the statements from Dulce's mom. Who is this family friend Brenda Trinidad, and why would a family friend go public with information that contradicts the statements Dulce's mother made to police?

Family friend Brenda Trinidad said they still don't know what really happened to Dulce that day as she played in the playground with her younger brother. The boy went to his mother who was sitting in their car helping a niece with homework and said someone had taken his sister.

How is that a “different scenario”? Trinidad runs a FB page and has acted as a spokesperson for the family IIRC. No one knows what happened.

If you have been following this case, you would know the details, and of course nobody knows what happened. Dulce's mom Noema reported to police that Dulce and Manny left her car to play on the swings in the park. She was sitting in her car helping her younger 8 year old sister (not her niece) with her homework, and scratching lottery tickets. They later became concerned that they couldn't see her two kids from the car, so Noema went to look for them. She found her 3 year old son Manny crying, and his ice cream was on the ground. She asked him where Dulce was, and he pointed to the building behind him. She said he can't talk because of his age.

This is the different scenario----that Manny came to his mother's car to tell her that someone had taken Dulce.

Now, more than three years since her disappearance, the Florida-based nonprofit, Anti-Predator Project is joining the effort to find her.

“We’re going to rebuild this case from day one, from the ground up and we’re going to look at it with fresh eyes from different angles and see if there’s something that maybe somebody missed,” Trent Steele, the founder of the organization, told NBC10.

Steele said the decade-old group specializes in human and sex trafficking, cyber predators, forceful abductions and missing children cases.

I hope the Anti-Predator Project makes some progress. This case has always bothered me. I have young children and it's heartbreaking to think she was probably abducted. It doesn't seem like much has ever been released in the way of the investigation progress. I hope they have more than they are letting on and that there's no tunnel vision happening.

Has there ever been anything about cameras in the vicinity? It looks pretty rural, but you'd like to think somebody caught something on a ring or survelliance camera.

Four years after Dulce’s disappearance, NBC10 investigative reporter Claudia Vargas is taking a fresh look at the case. She retraced Dulce’s last known steps and spoke with the girl’s family and case investigators.

“Somebody Knows Something: The Disappearance of Dulce” premieres Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. on NBC10 and the NBC10 streaming channels. In the days leading up to the special, NBC10 will air the following stories:
