GUILTY NJ - Shawn Custis for brutal home invasion, Millburn, 2013

 • #21
I'll be he freaked when he saw himself beating the woman when it was showed on TV. Those nanny cams take a nice pic.

 • #22
Yay for a quick arrest! Now keep him behind bars before he kills someone!

 • #23
Glad they got him!! I don't think this was his first time either. Imo. I bet when they search his home and investigate orher burglaries in the area other charges will come. I wonder if he gave his GF the ring.

 • #24
He has a long rap sheet. And no, I don't think he gave his GF the ring.
These B&E guys know where to exchange stolen goods for cash.
B&E guys are almost always repeat offenders.

Millburn home invasion prompts bill stiffening penalties

http://www.nj.com/essex/index.ssf/20...penalties.html

Assemblyman Jon Bramnick (R-Union) is introducing a “Home Invasion Law” which would upgrade a home-invasion from a third-degree to a second-degree crime, his office said.

“Under current law, some burglary offenses must be prosecuted as a third-degree crime,” Bramnick said. “Criminals could potentially walk away from a home invasion without facing jail time.” read more..

The NJ Home invasion happened on 06/21/2013.
The nannycam wasn't released until 06/27/2013 by the victim, from my info. He was captured on 06/28/2013.
'Less than 36 hours'..

Imo, he would still be preying on innocent victims due to the close to the vest/antiquated silence strategy if not for internet/ms media awareness..

Notice that once their description is shared with the American public, how fast they are identified and captured.. Never over 48 hours.

Now to scrutinize his forensic past.. Shawn Curtis is a very violent dangerous predator, imo

If there was NO nanny cam the story would be a tiny crime report in the newspaper (if even that) that said: "Home invasion reported, woman stated she was beaten while jewelry was stolen from the home, suspect described as male, 5'10, wearing jeans and a t-shirt."

You are absolutely correct Sonya610. From my info & on one of the msm articles it was stated that the mother released the nannycam to prevent this from happening to another person..

Shawn Curtis is obviously a recidivist sadistic predator and would have not stopped his violent attacks until captured. It was a week before the nanny cam was released, yet he was captured in less than 36 hours due to public tips, imo..
"The American public is a very valuable resource to squander, imo"...

Fugitive number 500 was arrested just one day after publicity began, proof that the success is largely dependent on the public.

Does anyone know why the FBI was involved?

Does anyone know why the FBI was involved?

Not sure trigger. Wondered that myself. May be due to Shawn Curtis fleeing authorities across state lines. The home invasion being in New Jersey, and his arrest in New York. Just a hunch.

One ms media article stated that he was released from prison in January 2013. The criminal background check on Curtis did not reflect a recent prison incarceration. Possibly a federal conviction.
Imo, Shawn Curtis will have a very long & violent past of preying on innocent victims..

8. Combat significant violent crime

Even with our post-9/11 national security responsibilities, we continue to play a key role in combating violent crime in big cities and local communities across the United States. Beyond our work targeting violent gangs and other criminal enterprises, we focus on such issues as crimes against children (including online predators), crime on Indian reservations, the search for wanted fugitives, serial killings, kidnapping, murder for hire, bank robberies, and special crimes like the carriage of weapons on aircraft and crime on the high seas.

That is scary. Another reason why I have an alarm and a gun!

I esp feel bad for the kids in that house and only the older kid saw the attack.

If I read correctly, the little one on the couch is the oldest ....she is ONLY 3!
She will need counseling, Imoo.

I hope this 🤬🤬🤬 is beaten to a pulp in jail!

I haven't watched the video...too scared. Just seeing the still pic of the momma on the floor and her precious child on the couch ....... Literally makes me sick to my stomach!

You reap what you sow you sob.

Does anyone know why the FBI was involved?

The FBI can and does get involved when special requests are made. They came out on the first day of a high profile murder case here locally and there was NO info to suggest it falls within their jurisdiction. Two years later there still isn't. All the police had was a body but because it could have a negative impact on a local University (that has connections) the FBI showed up within 2-3 hours and volunteered.

If it is high profile and someone with clout asks, they will jump on it.

IMO you should watch it. You should be aware of the real risks and real situations that can happen to most of us. I find it interesting to note that many of the folks happy to claim "If someone broke into my house they could take what they wanted, their life is so much more important than any of my stuff" etc....

Those folks aren't touching this thread with a 10 foot poll. If someone tries to break into my house I am expecting the worst, worse than what is in that video but the video gives a good taste for what to expect. At least he didn't kill them all (though he could have easily killed that woman with those blows, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he HAS killed someone before but was never caught).

Was it really that necessary for him to be that shockingly violent for a B&E? Why do criminals go into overdrive like this when the mother most likely would have given up the cash and jewelry without a fight? I will never understand such disgustingly vicious mentality from a monster preying on innocent people!

Millburn Home Invasion Suspect Had Habit Of Entering Homes Uninvited

http://nj1015.com/millburn-home-inv...d=fbc_402017739916236_2216273_402421766542500

A neighbor of Custis’ girlfriend in Dyckman Houses in Manhattan tells the New York Daily News that she twice found him standing in her living room believing no one was home.“I walked out into my living room, and he was just standing there,” Hernandez told The News. “I was scared. Why would he just walk into my home like that? He gave me the creeps.”

The second time her husband was in the shower when he walked in. Hernandez’s husband described him as “suspiciously friendly.”

Custis has a long criminal record dating back to the 1990s including 12 felony convictions according to the Star Ledger He served 10 months in jail for series of burglaries and was released in December, according to court records.
