Meanwhile, [NG] will make his first appearance at 1:30 p.m. before Metro Court Judge Yvette Gonzales, and he will be transported to court from the juvenile detention center, according to the DA’s Office.

The case falls under the state’s Serious Youthful Offender statute, and it will be handled by the 2nd Judicial Attorney’s Office violent crimes division as an adult case, DA spokeswoman Kayla Anderson said.

The case may be presented to the grand jury within 10 days, as is normally done when a suspected adult offender remains in custody, Anderson said in an email.

A week at least he contemplated doing this.
Not known to be a victim of abuse.

The guns were in parents bedroom, waited for her to fall asleep to gain access to weapons.

Won't comment on who he made comments to for the week leading up to this. Looking into if he told gf.

GF could be facing charges. She is approx 12 yrs old.

Suspect was quite shocked at his arrest.

Family was home-schooled.

No plans to test suspect for drugs. (Hmmm weird!)

21 dau local. Came to scene and spoke with LE that night.
No contact with other children - did not live at the home.

Halfway house - unknown if father had proper authority to operate. Will not look into this - not relevant.

Neighbors have mentioned (?) marching around with a shot gun in the yard - not aware of that.

Mental health professionals participating in this investigation.

Family didn't allow violent games/tv. He played those games per his own admittance. Doesn't know if he did it w/o family knowing.

He shot each vic multiple times - except two victims had one shot each. 9 yr old shot once and one sister shot once. Others appear multiple shots. Still investigating.

Most shots were from .22
AR-15 was also used.

All other 5 children are adult in age - as far as they know

Numerous rounds of .22 ammo
Small amount of .223 ammo for AR-15.

Father believed to be shot with AR-15.

Father shot with son on a regular basis - had been taught use of the weapons by his father. (sounds like Adam Lanza and his mother)

Did not have test for drugs or alcohol. No indication of any drug or alcohol use. No involvement with gangs as far as they know.

Thank you Jules71 - sheriff also confirmed that shooter had intended to go to Walmart and shoot more. (just wanted to add that).

How old was this kid? 15? 16? And his gf was only 12?

Again, the video games come into play here. But those games are old - especially Grand Theft Auto. I was really expecting to hear Halo or Call of Duty. Wonder where he'd been playing them. They wouldn't comment on that - just that he had said he played them regularly. Maybe gf's house? BFF's house?

My Lord, how did that little girl hang around with him all that time after getting that picture from him of his mother? Also, they said there was also talk about shooting HER parents.

I didn't catch who they said had been marching around the property with the rifle previously. I thought they said the dad - but, again, I didn't hear the question clearly.

Ugh. Why, why, why...

Parents, is there really no other hobby you can take up with your sons besides shooting and guns? hiking? Camping? Cycling? Programming? Sailing? Fishing? Bowling? Skiing/boarding? Pets? Volunteering somewhere? ANYTHING?!

And why, why, why on earth would you keep guns like that in a house full of little kids? :banghead:

All the shooter is saying is that he was "frustrated with his mother" and no further elaboration. I'm wondering if mom had become aware of his "gaming" or the young gf and was trying to discipline or discourage him from seeing her and "gaming".

Planning to shoot the gf's parents - were they aware of him? Being older, did they try to stop her from seeing him?

And again, guns in the house - unlocked and accessible. And again, another AR-15. If parents are willing to keep unlocked guns around - why didn't mom locked her door at night when she slept?

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Common sense, logic - none of these ever seem apparent or even an after-thought in this shooting after shooting after shooting.

I really get the sense that in a lot of these horrific crimes (Adam Lanza, Nehemiah Griego, Austin Sigg) that one of the main problems is that these teens do not have a healthy connection to ANYONE. They are isolated for the most part. There is something going on with our youth and imo it is not just violent video games. They are predisposed to anti-social tendencies for some reason. They just don't fit and they don't connect. I don't know what the answer is either.

Especially considering father is described as a pastor working with troubled youths. And allowing people released from prison to live on some barn in the backyard. Why keep unlocked guns in the house?

ITA. I wonder about the "little black boxes" that they all have in their hands 24/7. Its a new generation that defines "friends" as a checked box on a screen. They have hundreds of "friends" and personally know NONE of them.

Look at all the sitcom scenes we have seen with 2 or more of them sitting on a couch in the living room and yet they are texting to each other - never looking up, never actually talking to each other - yet they are sitting next to them? They call that "socializing". I call it just plain wierd!!!!!!

Updated post on #ABQ killings: Teen Shooting Suspect Had Contemplated Killings For “At Least A Week”
more here: http://www.abqjournal.com/main/2013...ontemplated-killings-for-at-least-a-week.html
Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston and one of his top investigators said during a news conference this morning that 15-year-old Nehemiah Griego had been planning violence for “at least a week.”

Investigators are still trying to determine who, if anyone, he told about his plans. Among those detectives are considering as someone who may have known is Griego’s 12-year-old girlfriend.

Something worth reading - I think this leads to these types of teens:

http://www.psychsight.com/ar-shame.html

"Shame is the inner experience of being "not wanted." It is feeling worthless, rejected, cast-out. Guilt is believing that one has done something bad; shame is believing that one is bad. Shame is believing that one is not loved because one is not lovable. Shame always carries with it the sense that there is nothing one can do to purge its burdensome and toxic presence. Shame cannot be remedied, it must be somehow endured, absorbed, gilded, minimized or denied. Shame is so painful, so debilitating that persons develop a thousand coping strategies, conscious and unconscious, numbing and destructive, to avoid its tortures. Shame is the worst possible thing that can happen, because shame, in its profoundest meaning, conveys that one is not fit to live in one's own community."

snipped from above "Father has extensive arrest record - not believed convicted felon"

Last night, I read somewhere that years ago Mr G had run-ins with the law, but had changed his life, attended seminary & became a pastor. Is there any indication that he was involved in criminal acts in recent times?

I feel they do not believe the father was involved in criminal acts in recent times.

[NG's] girlfriend knew about the slayings. Received picture of boys deceased mother 1a.m. Saturday. Could face criminal charges

https://twitter.com/lizmckernan

Liz McKernan is a reporter with KOAT.

I caught another comment by a local reporter confirming that the girlfriend received the photo of NG's mother at that time.

That would be just after he is said to have shot his mother.

I'm still sans audio...huge thanks to Jules71 for summarizing the press conference!

My going away party when I left Albuquerque was hosted in the Griego's neighborhood. I don't think I ever met Greg Griego when Albuquerque was my home, but somewhere along the years I became aware of him and his ministry. Where is nagging me and maybe I'll be able to recall.

ETA: The 1:00 am time frame for the photo of the slain mother confirmed in the Journal update.

Shortly after he allegedly shot his mother while she slept — around 1 a.m. Saturday — [NG] texted a picture of his mother’s body to his girlfriend, Houston told reporters.

1. Many antisocial youth have difficult temperaments from birth.
2. Many antisocial youth suffer from a variety of disabilities.
3. Many antisocial youth have serious psychiatric disorders
4. Many antisocial youth come from families that have experienced a great deal of difficulty and stress.

Many antisocial youth are unable to meet society's expectations. This may result from their disabilities, disorders and family backgrounds. They find it difficult to control their behaviour; they are unable to perform well in school; and they have difficulties forming close and meaningful relationships.

It is important to recognize that without help these youth are going to cause a great deal of harm to society through their antisocial and violent behaviour.

I'm still reeling over the gf being 12. 12!

He sent her a picture of his mother - shot in the head (and from the pc - it seems he shot her more than once. They said only 2 victims were shot once - one of the girls and the 9 yr old boy - so that leaves mom shot multiple times) I can't imagine - yet this 12 yr old girl gets this picture- shortly after the shooting and then "hangs out" with this kid ALL DAY LONG - up until 8PM when they go to the church.

They also said in the PC that NG had not been with the gf the entire time - he left and came back (they didn't elaborate) so the gf had the chance to call LE. She didn't. Why? It was also said the plan was to kill her parents as well - so............. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't face charges somewhere down the road here.

twelve years old.
