GUILTY NM - Five Griego family members murdered in their Albuquerque home, 20 Jan 2013

Thankx flourish - my DS is asleep or I would go ask him. I kinda doubt that too - I think Wal-Mart would NOT have allowed that AT ALL and even taken the game designers to court over it.

Ok taking calls

Caller - saying that this young boy was persuaded by his testosterone with the little girl.

Lisa saying we have to be careful about blaming a 12 yr old girl over this.

Drew - the quality of detachment. Uncle is saying the caller is right. This young girl was "egging him on" met him at the church and if she was really concerned over what he done she would have done something.

Lisa asking uncle about what she said - Uncle said she said "go ahead, yea do it" . She should have called the cops but she didn't.

Uncle - the rush to judgment for this kid, saying he was a sociopath or whatever - that shouldn't be.

Drew calming the uncle back down. Saying the no one is going to put that on a 12 yr old.

Another caller. Talking about the kid being tried as an adult. Bothers her that they want to lock up a 15 yr old as an adult.

Drew saying that there are circumstances where a child is so "destroyed" they need to be locked up.

Attorney saying the reason of trying him as an adult is that there isn't outrage of trying him as a child and then he gets out.

Lisa saying she agrees with him being charged as an adult - saying if he's tried as a child and then gets out at 21 - would you want him to come live next to you?

Uncle saying he doesn't want him locked up with hardened killers.

Ok - segment over - moving on to the poor girl that the school told her mom that maybe she should get a breast reduction.

I just can't believe this uncle is in such "denial" - its not really denial - I'm looking for the word. But this uncle is off. WAY OFF.

Family made its position clear when they put out a statement being upset of how 15 year old being portrayed by the media-despite the fact he was accused of killing five people.
And his uncle didn't live with them-how would he know if 15 year old played video games or not.
As for 12 year old, why was his 15 year old nephew dating a 12 year old to begin with?

What I saw in this Uncle is the "excuse" or "blame" game going on. It couldn't possibly be his fault - the girlfriend egged him on. The cops brow-beated him into a confession. Don't want this kid portrayed as a violent shooter - or whatever. It was just so horrible.

I feel for the guy - I do. But I really hope he gets some help with this. What this kid did was nobody's fault BUT the kid. Period.

And blaming the little girl (who he did say the police decided NOT to charge her today - he wasn't happy about that) - that is just downright horrible.

Since police have all the texts and decided not to charge 12 year old, I will assume police know what they are doing.
Although, again, if I were her parents, I'd make sure she didn't date anyone for a long, long while.

Something else - they all kept saying he "did it" and then went to the church. That isn't what is being reported. He hung out with the gf all day long and didn't get to the church until Saturday evening. Nobody brought that up or even asked about it.

My own opinion is that NG is not a candidate for rehabilitation.
I think he needs help; but only behind bars --- and should stay there for the rest of his life.
Sounds harsh, but it doesn't get much worse than this.
Nehemiah must have played with those younger kids. and did normal stuff like eat breakfast cereal together in the mornings, etc.
And then go murder them ?

This horror reminds me of the killings in Sugarland, TX. Bart Whitaker or something ?
A little different in that Bart was older ; but still he planned the murder of his entire family. The dad survived.

A little off-topic but wanted to add.... I didn't date at 12 yrs. old , wear makeup, or high heels, either --- too busy being a tomboy and just enjoying life ! ( plus my parents wouldn't have allowed it :) )

Anyone who thinks this teen should get out at 21 yrs.-- or even later in his 30's -- is welcome (imo) to have NG live with them !!!!
That might make anyone pushing for leniency , to change their mind.

ITA - it takes a twisted, sick mind to shoot a TWO YEAR OLD in the head, much less a five year old and his nine year old brother -who happened to be in bed next to mom when she was shot.

All the killings are terrible - but a two year old is what gets me. TWO! That baby was barely even talking yet.

Then to lay in wait for dad to come home. They said on the show that dad was shot in the back - that's not what I've read. But he sat there for FIVE HOURS after shooting all of them waiting for dad. I can't imagine - 5 hours is a long long long long time to just sit there in a house with 4 dead bodies all shot up - that YOU did. I wonder just how many texts he sent to gf during those 5 hours?

Another thing. I'm willing to bet that the argument with mom was over playing these games. Somehow mom found out - whether he told her or she overheard him talking on the phone or maybe the 9 yr old told her - either way - I bet that was what his "frustration with his mom" was about. So he decided he would fix it - just like in the game.

That may not be the case - but it makes sense to me. It was a Friday night that he did this - so maybe he wanted to go spend the night with his friend (that he played the games with) and mom told him no.

That doesn't make it the "games" fault at all. And, for the record, I don't believe these games cause these kids to act out like this.

Lots of parents and families go into denial and it's very frustrating because the facts speak for themselves!

Wish we knew if LE has found out where he was playing these games. I really don't think he was playing them at the gf's house. Usually girls don't like playing the "violent" games. He probably had a guy friend that he was playing them with. And that boy will have a wealth of information about NG and the games, and his demeanor, etc.

Also, to add to my post about mom finding out. If that fight was earlier that evening, I bet mom had told him - "well, I talk to your father about this and tell him what you're doing" and that's why he waited to kill dad.

I know this is unpopular decision, but I DO think that the violent games have a very negative effect on SOME kids.

My son played and still plays these kinds of games. I don't think the games by themselves will turn someone into a killer. But I do believe they can exacerbate someones mental issues. JMO

“Houston said that Griego had occasionally lost touch with his family and then reconnected with them multiple times in his life. He told investigators that his father had taught him how to shoot the weapons and the pair had practiced shooting them together.”
http://news.yahoo.com/teen-planned-attack-walmart-killing-family-154951568--abc-news-topstories.html

He lost touch with his family multiple times and then reconnected with them? Hmm. Does that mean he was not oriented to reality? Does it mean that he moved out of the family’s home several times? Weird. Maybe that statement was referring to the deceased dad and not the killer son?

“The teen spent 12 hours at the church, talking to several people, including his girlfriend, her grandmother, a pastor and a church security guard, saying his family was killed in a car crash, but telling at least one of person their bodies were in the family home, the charging document said. “

Killed in a car crash? If he really said that and couldn’t create a more logical lie (Why didn't this crash make the headlines of the local news?), he is either mentally challenged or suffering from a thought disorder/mental illness, IMO.

From WOOWLS above show notes...THANK YOU
..big red flag for me--
Apparently , possibly the uncle didn't know the family as well as he first let on. Uncle made numerous comments about the games, guns, etc.....THEN said "they weren't allowed in the house."
Why did the brother not want his other family in the house? moo

  • #177
If she recieved the photo of the mother after being shot ..., and if she didn't immediately report that to LE, ISNT that a crime? imoo

Not to split hairs, but they didn't say she did or did not commit a crime, just that no charges are going to be filed against her.

I haven't seen the Dr Drew show, but from what I'm reading of others comments (thank you to all who are summarizing! :blowkiss:), it sounds like uncle is blaming the eeevil little girl?

This is just another misogynist trope I see a lot of lately. The woman made me do it! Women are sneaky and manipulative, and if it weren't for the eeevil influence of the woman, why, he'd never have done such a thing!

:puke:

Maybe she had knowledge, maybe she didn't, but she was also 12, for crying out loud, and as far as we know, she wasn't holding a gun on HIM making him do this. Theres A big difference between 12 and 15. The failure to place responsibility wherer it belongs - whether he was psychotic or not (and I am very sympathetic to issues of mental illness - and would not want to see him charged with 1st degree if he is shown to have been impaired) - is disgusting.

Two things rolling around in my head right now (there's alot of free space, lol);

Kid obviously thought this out, and even if one could argue that the mom and siblings were heat of moment, he lie in wait for dad so bam- premeditation right there. Try him as an adult. Sorry, I'm pretty liberal on most things but a 15 year old that murders in cold blood his entire family and sends pics of it to his $&+*%## TWELVE YEAR OLD girlfriend......you can't rehab that. Buh bye.

And as to the misogyny trend as mentioned by GardenLady....ITA. Whether it is a perp or a victim, I am sick of hearing how evil, oversexed women (or little girls, ugh) are responsible for tempting the poor simple menfolks, making them not responsible for shelving their own lust. Poppycock!

Maybe we women need to wear burkas so that the poor, feeble-willed men won't be inflamed with uncontrollable lust at the sight of our wrist bones.

Okay. Rant over. Carry on and as always, MOO.

Oh, I lied.

One more thing...

I do think that 12 yo girl has a screw loose, too, and needs to be watched carefully. I know I wouldn't sleep well with her under my roof.

Not to say she is the catalyst behind what NG did, but it sure seems as though they shared a similar interest and mindset and that scares me mightily.
