September 10th Morning Rush: Search continues for missing Española girl, possible suspect in custody
Renezmae was last seen Sunday morning in Espanola in her front yard. Authorities can’t confirm if she was kidnapped, but they do believe her life is in danger. A widespread search for the girl began Monday.

Federal and local law enforcement said the man was arrested on outstanding warrants Sunday. That’s around the same time police issued an Amber Alert for Renezmae Calzada.

Detectives are trying to determine if there’s a connection between the man and the girl. They did not release his name and provided few details about their search for the girl.

Rio Arriba County Sheriff James Lujan says the investigation is ongoing.

The Albuquerque Journal reported that Renezmae Calzada vanished while playing in front of an Española home near McCurdy Road and Tesuque Lane at around 9:45 a.m. Rio Arriba Sheriff James Lujan said they don’t believe they’re dealing with parental abduction.

“Anytime a 5-year-old is missing, we’re going to assume she is in danger,” Lujan commented, according to KOAT. “If she’s not with the family, then we’re going to assume she’s in danger.”

KOB reported that a massive search will continue Tuesday from Prairie Dog to Mile 31 in Española. Though Calzada was said to have vanished on Sunday morning, her mother didn’t report her missing until 6 p.m.—a delay police said is part of their “ongoing investigation.”

FBI Albuquerque Division officials have canceled a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. today in Espanola on the search for Renezmae Calzada, 5, who has been missing since Sunday morning.

“The only update is we’re still looking for this little girl and anyone with information should call Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office, (505) 753-5555,” public affairs officer Frank Fisher said.

I pretty much hold my breath checking for updates on this sweet little girl. I'm so afraid for her, yet I'm hoping and praying she's ok and is safe somewhere.

I wonder if she really could have been lured/snatched out of the yard while she was playing...by a stranger. That would mean she could be literally anywhere by now If she had wandered off, they'd probably have found her by now. They don't seem to think it is a family related abuction. So what else is left? Harmed somehow, then a fake missing story put forth to cover? The more time that goes by, the grimmer this situation gets

Hmmm I wonder why they had set a time for a press conference if they were just going to cancel? Does this happen often? I’ve seen it the other way around, a very sudden and unplanned PC due to new info or finds..

Possible suspect detained in Rio Arriba County girl’s disappearance

Investigators say one man has been taken into custody who could possibly be connected to the girl’s disappearnce. They confirmed that the person in custody is the mother’s boyfriend Malcolm Torres.

He was arrested Monday for three outstanding warrants which were a failure to pay and failure to comply in some past DWI cases. Court records show the mother had filed a petition last month to establish child support from Torres and visitation with both children. Investigators say they are currently questioning him.

So....mother files petition for child support....a month later........poof, Renezmae is missing while in his care and mother is at work (that also per same article) and all day goes by before her being 'missing' is mentioned to mom upon her return from work.

It reminds me somewhat of little 5 year old, Samantha Runion, when she was kidnapped by a stranger in broad daylight as she played wih her little friend in the yard.

I pray we dont have the same tragic outcome for this beautiful little girl.

I’m wondering about the statements eluding to no parental or family involvement in disappearance.

Somehow the investigators must have evidence proving they are not involved or they wouldnt ever make those statements public, I dont think.
