When you consider the bullet casing next to it is only 9mm wide, I definitely think it’s a hair. A thick hair maybe, but it’s just too thin to be a tie or something else I can think of. It’s under 1mm wide.

Above you mentioned that it was a male hair. I'm missing something. How can you tell it belongs to a male?

What I see is a coarse hair. The follicle bulb is clearly visible - but I wonder if it belongs to a human at all, or perhaps to a coarse-coated dog, horse or other animal the person who dropped it had been in contact with.

I was thinking more about the paper stands. The one near the food...do you think they swapped it entirely with the one that was on top of the television? The width also looks different to me, but that might also be my perception?

Was thinking this could be what was dumped in that empty bin liner.....

Animal hair doesn't shed out with a follicle. I had a dog with light fur and fought the battle of light colored dog hair daily.

I'm assuming he thought it was male based on the length?

I wonder if the first security guard was extremely fair? Everyone we have been allowed to see from the hotel staff had dark hair.

Maybe it is "white" or grey?

Fair points. I assumed it was male because of the length, but you're right to question that.

This is one of the strangest bits, for me at least. Such an innocuous object, what would cause it to be removed?

I wanted to try my hand on the gun photo as well so I tried to sharpen it and change exposure

Something is going on around her hand, button and above her hand. It looks like someone attempted to whisk out the tip of the gun in the photo. Since the gun looks like:
pistolen.jpg

I'd put it at about 20 cm from tip to hilt, while what she is holding, in the image, adds up to maybe 12-13 cm.
If we try tip to cocked end of the gun, we are at 23, and the image she is holding it, maybe 15.

The missing gun tip went right over my head, despite spending about two hours looking at that photo yesterday. WTF? I wonder if we should collect this all up and send it to the Norwegian journalist, and let him ask questions.

under auto brightness it looks like this

weird cut off the button there....that's not natural. Look a everything else.

Under auto brightness you suddenly have 2 different types of black. A reddish black and a greenish black.
There is also a random line from the bottom of the picture that I first thought was the other side of the ruler, but it does not appear that straight nor follow through quite. The line also goes over her neck. So that can't be it.

Are you guys thinking there are two different guns???

Under adaptive equalize you get this

What is going on here? Pixels appears a mess, lines everywhere. Weird colorations. Clear attempts at tampering.

What would have existed in 1995 to manipulate photos? I can't really remember? I only recall playing around in paint programs for fun. I didn't really have any knowledge back then.

There was Photoshop even then. Version 3.0 came out in 1995.

WHOA!!

So, without seeing anything but a handand a gun.....we have nothing but their word. Could they have placed the gun in her hand, somehow layered images and built a story? There is not a full photo of everything all together? (Body on bed, showing gun in her hand, in position, etc.)

Edited: With the reply about Photoshop in 1995....I guess this would have been possible. Holy cow....

It's absurd that the police could even put this photo out. And that it's taken 16 years for someone to spot it:

The gun she's holding at the crime scene is at least 5cm shorter than the gun in the exhibit photo.

Could the "noise" under adaptive equalize be blood?

Yeah I am thinking almost 10 cm shorter tbh. 5-10 cm. shorter. You can tell they are not the same size by just looking at the images, you don't need the measurement thing to tell you but yeah...

At this point, I think we are qualified for a hire tbh.

@Beekarina

I have no idea. To me it reads as wrong-pixels. Mostly due to how the button was cut off in an earlier image. Those things only happen when you photoshopped something in, or OVER, something. Or drew over it. But this is a very straight line....
