Deobra Redden, who is accused of attacking District Judge Mary Kay Holthus in January, was arraigned Thursday morning at the Regional Justice Center.

Deobra Redden, 31, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity during a brief court hearing on Thursday. He was indicted earlier this month on charges including attempted murder, battery, extortion by threat, intimidating a public officer, and willful or wanton disregard of the safety of persons

The only delusional state he was in was thinking he was going to get a small slap on the wrist from this judge, after his previous violent history.
He attacked her because he knew he was going to jail. If I knew I was going to be facing jail, I'm sure I'd be out of my mind too, just not in a legal way that excused my actions.

Deobra Redden has been sentenced to serve between 26-65 YEARS for this attack. He will be eligible for parole during the 2050s.
