When I was growing up in Montana a long time ago, "right by the prison" in open empty country like that didn't necessarily mean "very close." It tended to mean something more like "the prison is the nearest landmark" or "you can see the prison from the gravesite" or something along those lines. I'd guess within 10-15 miles probably, but wouldn't be surprised if it's more.

What did he bury her with? He didn't have a shovel with him when she was taken.

Maybe the grave was pre-dug and he had a shovel and tarps or such waiting for at the burial site.

Unless it was a pre made or natural opening? That ground looks hard and rocky.

I think it's going to be rocky, but also sandy and dusty in areas. It is essentially the bottom of an old lakebed

Naomi Irion's body was found in a gravesite off Coal Canyon Road, right by the Lovelock prison, investigators said.

BBM. Isn't the prison located outside of Churchill County?

Yes. I'll say it again. Any map(s) with the red dot suggesting the gravesite near the Lovelock Prison or such are wrong. The Pershing County Sheriff would be announcing the news, not the Churchill County Sheriff.

As I recall, GH went over the distances, too in his program of Thursday March 31 and came to the same conclusion that even if you took the longest driving route (on I-80 to Lovelock and then south along Coal Canyon Road, it was still not more than 100 miles.

Remember we were told she was found 150 miles from the Fernley Walmart. That has turned out not to be true, either ( I suspect that was an interpretation from the co-worker JS video, which has other incorrect statements in it, too)

You know what.
Why on earth drive all the way up to Lovelock in the first place?
If he wanted to abuse and kill her he could have driven to the first quiet spot and leave her there. Drive her car into a waterhole or whatever.

But driving on the highway to Lovelock and leave her near a prison?
I would imagine these prisons have towers with guards on the lookout?

As someone that drives old cars on a low budget, my fuel tank is never filled up all the way.
Unless Naomi just filled up the tank when she bought snacks and he saw her do that, he could not plan ahead that he could drive her car all the way up there.
What do you do when a 30 year old car breaks down with an abductee in it?
And don't you have traffic camera's on highways in the US that take images of people that drive on the highway?

I agree, the location is a bit confusing to me.

Just as a side note, I am curious. If her body was found in Pershing County, would the court be held in Pershing County (where she was found) or would it have more to do with where she disappeared? If the crime covers different counties, where do they hold court?

My experiences with small rural-county LE is that while they are not Rhodes Scholars, they are also not going to allow a chance for their name in lights to get credited to the wrong county in international mainstem media.

If she was found outside the Lovelock Prison in Pershing County (population 6,615 including the prison residents) be damm sure that the Pershing County Sheriff would be the one who's name you would know.

If she was found in Churchill County, the Churchill County Sheriff is not going to let the Pershing County Sheriff's Office declare it happened in Pershing County.

Good point about the gas.

I think that DNA technology is so far advanced, someone contemplating this crime -especially when they have a record - is going to do everything they can to minimize that risk.

IMO, that's another reason that taking her car very far seems an unlikely plan, given he was planning for it to be recovered.

Doesn't the crime get created in the spot where the first crime is identified?

So she was kidnapped in Lyon County. He will be prosecuted in Lyon County. The remainder may be dependent on what LE can determine.

There was a kind of similar situation that occured a couple of years ago with a guy who murdered people in two different counties in a weekend crime spree: Washoe County, where Reno is, and Douglas County where Minden is. The NV Supreme Court determined that he had to have trials in both counties. There were some other circumstances also addressed by the NV Supreme Court about having a relative from San Salvador come to testify for him. Anyway, he got two trial dates and pled guilty on both and his now being hosted for a life sentence by the citizens of Nevada.

I have some thoughts about his creation of this crime and it goes toward the entire crime being very deliberately planned ( in his mind) as the goal, not just a simple loss of control or rage in a murder.

Or he transferred her body to his truck, and he had a shovel there?

I feel it was totally planned. But I'm not convinced he did it alone. And I'm not convinced she died that day. Him not being charged for murder could that mean the autopsy showed she died while he was in custody?

Fernley - Google Maps

When you drive on I 80 Past Lovelock correction center and turn right onto Coal Canyon Rd (396), you will drive past the entrance of Lovelock correction center (Prison Road).
Surely there must be cameras at the entrance to Prison Rd?
And TD must know that Lovelock correction center is there?
Even if he left her 60 miles further down Coal Canyon Road, that's a huge risk driving past Prison Road.
Especially if he did that in her car. Her car stands out I guess? Never mind risking that car breaking down near that facility or in the middle of nowhere. He would have to call someone if it did. And they could pinpoint him to her car.

I think it might be a mistake to assume that her car was not roadworthy. There was early speculation that she took the shuttle because her car was unable to make the trip to work and back. I think it's more likely that taking the shuttle saves money, and it's easier to be driven than to drive - especially for a new driver.

This map shows the roads in the area around the Lovelock Correctional Facility. There are many possibilities for body location in the area, and no reason to assume that the roads are not good enough for a car to travel on.

IMO, he wanted to be able to look out his window and see her.

IMO, he wanted to be able to look out his window and see her.

There is substantial debate over exactly where she was buried, but even if it was within sight of it, Lovelock Prison is primarily a medium-security facility, with a few low-security inmates. The state's maximum-security prison is Ely State Prison, some 300 miles away from where her remains were found. Also, I don't think getting caught, arrested and spending the rest of his life in prison were parts of his plan. JMO

Does anyone know, from a legal perspective, why they went ahead with the bail hearing when a body was found the day before that was most likely Naomi? Would that not have delayed it a few days?
