panthera,

Many people feel the same way about Marcia Clark as you do,but I have to disagree.I don't know how many times during the trial Marcia repeated that the hairs on the cap and other things were proven to be OJ's by something like 10 to 1 million, she repeatedly and methodically went over the blood trial from Bundy to Rockingham ... so much hard evidence repeated ad nauseum ... but the jury just wouldn't have it. As far as her changing her appearance, the trial was long, people get their hair cut,it's the media that made a big deal of it. Nope,I don't think it was Marcia that caused OJ to go free.

I disagree. I believe it was a combination of Gil Garcetti (DA at the time), Marsha Clark, and Chris Darden.

Mistake #1 - DA's office agreed to change of venue to downtown vs. the Brentwood area where the trial should have taken place - DA's fault.

Mistake #2 - Marsha Clark felt that a jury made up largely of black women would have empathy for another woman who was the victim of abuse, regardless of race. She totally misread how black woman may feel in regard to a white woman who has "stolen" one of theirs, especially when the male involved was good looking and a sports hero. - Marsha Clark's fault.

Mistake #3 - Trying on the glove. Everyone should have known that a leather glove soaked in blood and/or sweat, and left to dry over many months would be nearly impossible to get over a hand of any size, and especialy when that hand had another glove (plastic/rubber glove) already on. OJ then stretched out his hand to make it appear even tighter than it was. - Chris Darden's fault.

Hi Pepper!:) I agree with 1 & 3. What was the reason for moving the trial - security?
About #2 - didn't they (pros) have a jury consultant?

Great summary, Pepper! I would only add, as Vincent Bugliosi did, the prosecutor's apologizing to the jury for having to try O.J. I thought their attitude throughout the trial was apologetic and defensive, no way to convince a jury to do the right thing, particularly when some of the panel would have had to go against the public sentiment in their neighborhoods.

I'm not sure about a jury consultant. I know the defense had one. In any event, it was Marsha Clark's ultimate decision and lack of judgment to impanel what she erroneously believed would be sympathatic black women. She just didn't consult the right experts on that theory of hers, and it backfired big time. ETA: I believe the move was to accommodate the press and the large number of on-lookers this high-profile trial was going to attract.

Yes Nova, you are so right! Even the prosecution was star-struck!

I read Mark Fuhrman's book, and I believe him when he talks about all the mistakes that were made by the detectives gathering evidence. Certainly that bloody fingerprint on the Bundy gate should have been preserved and entered into evidence. But because of #1 - location and #2 - adverse prejudice against the victim by the jury, more and better evidence wouldn't have made any difference in the outcome.

Trouble in paradise for OJ -

Quote:

Charles Cashmore, one of Simpson's codefendants in the sports memorabilia-centered armed robbery case, is planning to cop a plea and turn state's evidence against the former football star and his alleged accomplices, according to his attorney.

Edward Miley said that his client will plead guilty on Monday to being an accessory to robbery, a felony charge that carries a possible five-year prison sentence but a far cry from the punishment that comes with 10 felony counts of armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary, assault with a weapon and conspiracy.

LAS VEGAS — A second co-defendant has agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge and testify against O.J. Simpson and others in the alleged hotel room theft of sports collectibles from two memorabilia dealers.
Walter Alexander, 46, of Mesa, Ariz., told a judge Monday he will plead guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery, a felony. Alexander could face up to one to six years in prison.
Outside the courtroom, Alexander and his lawyers declined to say what testimony he will provide.
Earlier Monday, Charles Cashmore, 40, of Las Vegas, also told a judge he would plead guilty to felony, accessory to robbery, and testify for the prosecution.
The plea agreements up the ante in the prosecution of the former football star. Cashmore can testify that guns were involved in the Sept. 13 confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas casino hotel room, his lawyer said.
"He can establish who was in the room, what was said, who had guns, who didn't have guns, potentially who may have seen guns, who didn't see guns," Cashmore's lawyer Edward Miley said outside court. "I think he wishes he would have never met O.J." more at link:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,301937,00.html

Poor OJ; everyone is turning on him. What his attornies don't get, the Goldmans will get, and all that will be left for OJ to get. is the shaft. I wonder if the Goldmans could be successful in attaching OJ's NFL pension payments since OJ won't have need for that money while the state is paying for his room, and board??

O.J. Simpson wanted armed men with him when he confronted two sports memorabilia dealers, according to a co-defendant...

"O.J. said 'Hey, just bring some firearms,"' Walter Alexander told police...

Alexander told police after his arrest September 15 that he and another man showed up with guns at the former football star's request...

Let's hope when he goes to trial both the prosecution and the jury do a better job than last time.

A friend of mine who lives in Las Vegas was telling me about the judge in this case.

Apparently after a short stint as an assistant D.A., and not a laudatory one at that, the allegedly almost imcompetent assistant D.A. got his name on the ballot and won the election for Judge......all on the name recognition of his father, with the same name, who was a very noted, and very well liked Judge, in the county, for a very long time. This Judge's son, has people shaking their heads. This is just a little of the behind the scenes.

He is young, plays pinball and wears his hair in a pony tail.
