NV - Tesla Cybertruck explosion at Trump hotel in Vegas investigated as a possible terrorist act, 1 Jan 2025

I personally compared him to the guy who lit himself on fire.

I think he was suicidal. He wanted to "go out in style" and "take some people with him". He decided on a relationship that was "in the news". (Musk-Trump) This would guarantee this would be all over the news. (Like the guy who lit himself on fire)
Fortunately, the "taking people with him" failed.
He did succeed in "going out in style".
I feel like if he wanted to do serious damage and kill a lot of people, he would have driven the car through the glass doors and then set off the explosion. MOO- he just wanted to do as you stated; harm himself and go out with a Bang.

I was posted he talked to his mom about going to Vegas. Maybe in his mind he believed this act was protecting his newborn.

I'm kinda of skimming the thread, but wondering if he made any attempt to get out of the vehicle before it exploded.

My heart breaks for his family. I'm glad he didn't hurt anyone else.
OP stated upthread that it was it was a mistake, wrong guy and wrong mother. So the statement about talking to his mom about to Vegas has been walked back.

Regardless, how would blowing himself up in a truck be an act of protection of the newborn? It was an act of terrorism and apparently against the President-Elect of the United States and his associates. By a member of the U.S. armed forces at that! Probably too late for a dishonorable discharge, although don't know how the military deals with this kind of situation, if there is any action to be taken post-humously.

What an amazing coincidence though (And I am not saying it is not just a coincidence)- two members of the military, rented from the same app, use the same method more or less, on the same day
Tens of millions use the app, it is like linking them because they both bought a book on Amazon

Livelsberger served in the Green Berets, highly trained special forces who work to counter terrorism abroad and train partners, the Army said in a statement.

He had served in the Army since 2006, rising through the ranks with a long career of overseas assignments, deploying twice to Afghanistan and serving in Ukraine, Tajikistan, Georgia and Congo, the Army said. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, including one with a valor device for courage under fire, a combat infantry badge and an Army Commendation Medal with valor. Livelsberger was on approved leave when he died, according to the statement.

"But two U.S. officials say the military has not yet found any overlap between them at either Fort Bragg or in Afghanistan. They both served there, these officials say, but not at the same time."

I'm not saying these 2 acts are directly connected, but both soldiers serving at the same location, at the same time, isn't a necessity as to whether or not they knew of each other or shared similar thoughts and ideas.

Proud Military AF Brat here, so please do not take this as a negative about our military. I'm thinking more along the lines of how disgruntled soldiers or those suffering from PTSD type symptoms could congregate in anonymity on the Web.

The idea that he was doing this for his child—that he was trying to kill people who he thought would be endangering his child's future, say—fails because neither Trump nor Musk were anywhere in the area. This is not a car bombing at the inauguration; this is him blowing up a Musk Tesla vehicle outside a Trump hotel. It is purely symbolic.

It's more similar to them having bought the same book on Amazon on the same day and then done the same weird thing afterward.

Definitely see your point though.

I think it's a little more rare than amazon- most people didn't know what Turo was before yesterday, they have less than 4M users, whereas Amazon serves 4M per hour.

For me it isn't just that they rented from Turo, it's all the things they have in common. Others have used trucks to harm people, but I don't recall hearing about one being rented from Turo.. seems its' usually their own vehicle they use. So for both of these just hours apart to be vehicles they rented and not just rented, but rented from Turo makes me side eye it.. then both in the Army for a fairly significant amount of time and then these events happening just hours apart in very large US cities.

Livelsberger was a member of 10th Special Forces Group, and had recently deployed in Europe, two U.S. defence officials said. He also served in Afghanistan, Congo and Tajikistan. He was based in Germany and was in the U.S. for the holiday season, the officials said.
The defense officials said he had earned a Bronze Star with valor.
He had served for 19 years in either the active duty or reserve, the officials said, and had NO disciplinary problems.
Army officials are perplexed
by Livelsberger’s involvement because his colleagues described him as a good soldier who raised no obvious concerns. The officials said there was no apparent link between the Las Vegas explosion and the New Orleans attack.

RSBM. Thank you for the information regarding wrong guy/wrong mother. I can't get in his mind, but he was clearly suffering a mental health crisis making the choice he did. Perhaps more information about his state of mind will be learned as the investigation proceeds.

Press conference going on right now.

Body burned beyond recognition. No confirmation that the person is 100% Matthew, but his military ID and passport was in the car. A gun was found and I think they said he had a gunshot to his head.

Las Vegas Police say suspect could not be removed from cyber truck due to being burnt beyond recognition. Found passport, semi-automatic pistol, other firearms and fireworks, iphone, smartwatch.
Police say he shot himself in the Tesla.

Well the fact he shot himself first says to me his goal was to harm others. If he had no intention of harming others, then why park that car close to the hotel and why rig it with anything that could explode? He could have just shot himself somewhere if that was his only goal.

I heard he had been shot in the head and a gun was found at his feet.
Did they say he shot himself? (I could have missed it)

Gun shot wound to the head. Interesting. Unable to confirm his identity from the remains, waiting on DNA and dental records to confirm.

Yes, I didn't hear police specifically say he shot himself, just that he was shot prior to the explosion and the gun was found.

There is just so much information and study of what has happened to our returning vets. We all know them. Good friends. But so many really don't know what they were doing there.... moo of course

Veterans may experience the following reactions related to the current events in Afghanistan:

  • Feeling frustrated, sad, helpless, distressed (including moral distress), angry, or betrayed
  • Worrying about Afghans who worked with the U.S. military, like interpreters
  • Experiencing an increase in mental health symptoms like symptoms of PTSD or depression
  • Sleeping poorly, drinking more or using more drugs
  • Trying to avoid all reminders or media or shy away from social situations
  • Having more military and homecoming memories
  • Questioning the meaning of their service or whether it was worth the sacrifices they made

YES! I would add that the sudden and chaotic withdrawal that happened in August 2021 was VERY tough for many.

Interested to know about the several stops he made between arriving in LV at 7:29am and when the explosion happened. They know the businesses involved.
