Ok still reading... couple more random thoughts-
1) I want to vomit. I can literally (yes in the literal sense) feel rage boiling up in my stomach. UGH.

2) This hits so close to home for me, it terrifies me. Not that they ever would be (bc of the water) but now especially, my boys will never be out of my site at our house up there.
3) One poster in the first thread described the area as idyllic- like norman rockwell- yes, that is mostly true. Beautiful rural countryside combined with a vacationy feeling waterfront with islands and cottages and nice boats and friendly people. Amish people with their fresh produce, furniture, etc. It's all very nice and peachy.
But there is a dark side. There is a huge heroin (pills and straight up shooting smack) problem in jefferson county and st. lawrence county. Huge meth problem. Major drug trafficking coming across the water from canada and to canada. I kid you not a few summers ago my cousins and I (we) found a pallet of (brick) weed in the marsh by our cottages. Of course we called the police- thats a huge major bag of trouble we don't need (and wtf, there were obviously really dangerous drug dealers/traffickers BY OUR HOUSES... wtf wtf wtf wtf- we all have kids!).
My father always taught us that even though everything seems hunky dory up there, and usually is, be weary, and NEVER hang out with the local talent. There are some real weirdos up there (and anywhere, really, but its more rural, less populated, more opportunity to hide crimes or perpetrate them, more opp to get lost in the woods, etc)
Also, being barefoot is the norm up there. All of our roads in and out of the house are gravel and my feet have been "summerfied"... I could probably walk across coals. Definitely a field of legos. Ok back to reading...
Oh and one more thing- targeted because of opportunity? Definitely, they probably thought "oh these guys dont even use phones, we'll have those girls so far gone before they even know what happened"... obviously they were wrong and stupid. Typical criminals.
