I guess it's one of "those" sites. Sign up as a member? The rest of the article doesn't really say anything new though.

I've been reading all day about how patient privacy rights are halting the investigation. Wouldn't the receptionist(s) recognize that guy if he was a patient? Surely they've contacted them and shown them the video and sketch. Faughey's wake was held today and this maniac is still on the loose.

I doubt that there is a receptionist. Psychologists and psychiatrists schedule their patients so that they don't overlap. No need for a receptionist. Maybe a part-time billing person, but nobody that late in the evening.

Could this maybe be someone that attended the guitar seminars with the Doctor and Mr. Kunsman? The Tena brand diapers are supposedly relatively expensive. As Luthersmama told us they are readily available online. I read that they were shipped from the very town Mr. Kunsman lives in. Could it be a set-up as he was having problems. He lost his UPS job. Supposedly he is Bi_polar and just recently was communicating with his friend the Doctor alot. They have a forum they all post on for the guitars. Just a thought and no links. I was going through tons of them. I'll go back if anyone cares to know. Also, you must join the forum to read posts.

No, they weren't shipped from his town. There is a medical supply store there that used to sell them but they haven't for a couple of years. Total red herring. The folks in the store didn't recognize him, either.

this case is absolutely horrifying! We are all more vulnerable than we realize. The killer is obviously a sick-o. i am intrigued about how in the world he was in her presence for 19 minutes before he began the murder. of course, he could have come in with the meat cleaver and she sat obediently while he raged at her, hoping once he had his say he would leave. the struggle only began when she realized he did intend to kill her. or they talked for a while and she had no idea what he intended until he reached in his bag, maybe saying he was going to show her a photo or something seemingly innocent. i hope they find this guy pronto!

i do not suspect the UPS friend because of the hair image we have when the killer left the basement. does anyone at all think that could be some kind of wig? i guess the sock hat would have come off in the waiting area so the witness would know and has not said anything about that that we know of.

i would guess there was not a lot of conversation in a waiting room. strangers usually keep to themselves and read a magazine.

Izzy you are right about the conversation, but that they chatted at all is horrifying. I mean he's prepapring to murder someone and that he even responded to someone amazes me. Usually when someone doesn't want to speak to you in a setting like that you know it. You wouldn't even make eye contact. I winder who started the conversation?

about adult diapers, anyone who had needed them in the past, elderly parent, or for themselves, usually keeps them around in case they are needed at some time in the future. the good ones are more expensive and so i would think most people who have had to buy them in the past would just stick them in the back of the cabinet in case they are ever needed again.

maybe this guy had some from an elderly mother/father or ill significant other. that could explain them being in his possession for a while.

the receptionist had gone home for the day, when this happened...

eta.....was trying to find the link where i read that the receptionist had gone for the day, but i now realize that you know that........i would think the receptionist has been shown the video & sketch....she'd know if Kunsman had been in the office recently too.....

Lots of detail:

The diapers (TENA brand) are readily available online.

i agree...thanks!

Cops also were checking surveillance video from the blocks surrounding Faughey's office for more images of the balding killer. One tape showed him on the block at 6:30 p.m., more than two hours before the murder, apparently casing the building, sources said. One source said the killer entered and left the building.

so he'd cased out the bldg 2 hours prior to going back in at 8 pm.....hmm

so for 19 minutes Faughey was alone with the killer before he started his rampage with her.....sounds like LE is on the ball though...they at least have a fingerprint on one of the bags....& DO have access to some of the patients records...

"There is a great deal of patient information already in the hands of law enforcement," said Manhattan district attorney spokeswoman Barbara Thompson.

"We already have several people we know we need to talk to," a police source added.

Detectives were reviewing Faughey's paper appointment calendar, checking names on her electronic appointment book in her computer and running down a list of names provided by her heartbroken husband, Walter Adam, sources said.

Kelly said detectives asked Shinbach's assistant to call all his patients - to warn them of the killing and see if they had any information to share.

this just has to be a patient of Faughey's....OR someone she was friends with that she may have been trying to help to a certain degree.....the statement "nobody's helping me!" is just so creepy....& i must admit, a little sad.....

Faughey had to have been the target, imo....& if it was a patient, then they would know Faughey's partner's name also, so he used Shinbach's name as he was entering the bldg, instead of Faughey's....maybe thinking it wouldn't be suspicious...in HIS mind anyway ...

trying to wrap my mind around this one........

eta.....

Close enough, thanks for the new info. I hope LE is able to get this guy soon. Someone has to recognize that bald spot.

I'm not familiar with the liability and responsibility people in the psych field have in reporting an abusive situation. I really feel strongly that whatever advice the patient was being given regarding elder abuse, spousal, etc. it didn't sit well with the suspect because he is the abuser. And either the patient was feeling empowered by their therapy or one of the docs notified or threatened to notify the authorities. The diapers and slippers really make me think the patient was/is an elderly person. I wonder what age the clothing in the suitcase was indicative of?

ETA: I am editing this post to add the timeline from the below link. He was with Faughey for about 20 mins.:
http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local&id=5959308

At 8 p.m. the suspect walks into the building.
Between 8 and 8:30, he sits in the waiting room with a female patient.
At 8:30 that patient goes into Dr. Kent Shinbach's office.
Then shortly before 8:50 the killer attacks Dr. Faughey.
Dr. Shinbach hears a struggle, tries to help and is attacked and injured.
Eyewitness News also learned that the killer confronted the patient.
At 9 p.m. the killer walks out a basement door leaving his murder weapons behind in the black bags-- a meat cleaver, eight knives, and women's clothing.

i am aware that some psychologists and psychiatrists audio and video tape their sessions. most have a button that can be activated from their desk. i am hoping that LE has something like that in this case.

I think LE got him!!!

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_...new_suspect_questioned_by_police_in_brut.html
Detectives are questioning a new suspect in the murder of upper East Side therapist Kathryn Faughey, who was hacked to death with a meat cleaver inside her Manhattan office, police sources said.
Investigators matched a fingerprint taken off one of the two bags the killer abandoned at the crime scene to the suspect, the sources said.
Cops grabbed the suspect – who has a long history of mental illness – about midnight and hauled him to the 19th Precinct stationhouse in Manhattan for questioning, the sources said. (more at link)
