Since my last tweet, the jury asked for testimony from Epstein's pilot and a Palm Beach cop. And Nathan is contemplating sending a missive to jurors asking them to stay late. (We are off Thurs-Mon.) Defense argued against pushing the "studiously" deliberating jury to hurry up.

another jury note requesting the testimony of David Rogers

@MartaDhanis
3rd note of the day: “May we please have the transcript for david rogers” Rogers is one of the pilots who testified

Forgive my ignorance here, as I’m not hugely familiar with jury trials etc but why are they asking to see all this again surely they’ve just sat through the trial and seen it all already?

I'm sure others here will have better answers for you. However, my guess is the jury is split and struggling to form an unanimous decision. So the majority is attempting to convince the holdouts to change their thinking by re-presenting testimony. (no worries about asking questions @StasiaUK . We do that a lot)

Could asking to see the various evidence/testimony be to verify how the evidence/testimony relates to the different charges ?

Re VG, it looks to me that she had been rising in the hierarchy before she thankfully came to her senses and found the courage to quit, for which I admire her. I do wish she had testified.

Yes, to apply the law correctly as the judge has given them.

Jury instructions often are confusing.

All twelve members of the jury must be unanimous in their vote on all of the charges below. Really difficult work.

The charges against Ghislaine Maxwell in her federal sex trafficking trial, explained - CNN

The most serious charge against Maxwell is sex trafficking a minor, a charge punishable by up to 40 years in prison.
Sex trafficking applies to anyone who "knowingly in or affecting interstate commerce, recruits, entices, harbors, transports, provides, or obtains, by any means a person ... knowing that ... the person has not attained the age of eighteen years and will be caused to engage in a commercial sex act," according to the jury instructions. The jury can also find her guilty of aiding and abetting the crime.
This charge solely relates to Carolyn between 2001 and 2004.

Maxwell faces two similar charges of enticing a minor to travel to engage in criminal sexual activity and transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. The jury can also find her guilty of aiding and abetting the crime.
Both of these charges relate solely to "Jane" between 1994 and 1997.

Finally, Maxwell faces three counts of conspiracy related to EACH of the three counts mentioned above: (1) conspiracy to commit sex trafficking a minor, (2) conspiracy to entice a minor to travel to engage in criminal sexual activity and (3) conspiracy to transport a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
A person can be guilty of a conspiracy if they agree with someone to do something illegal and take an overt act toward that goal. They do not have to actually commit the underlying offense to be found guilty.

They want to end at 5:00 today.

Just taking a guess, but it starting to sound like they are down to deciding on one charge…I could be wrong though.

The attorneys are confused

Judge Nathan: Is it your contention that to convict on this count the jury would have to find that the defendant was involved in this aspect of this flight.

New jury note involving testimony from accuser Jane
The jury has submitted yet another note, this time involving testimony from accuser “Jane”.

Judge Nathan allowed both the defence and prosecution to view the note directly because of its confusing phrasing. In effect, it asked if the jury can, if it makes certain findings, still render a guilty verdict.

The prosecution urged the judge to respond to the jury by telling them to review the instructions, while the defence asked for an answer of: “No.”

In the same note, jurors asked to be excused at 5pm today.

Re VG, it looks to me that she had been rising in the hierarchy before she thankfully came to her senses and found the courage to quit, for which I admire her. I do wish she had testified.

The defense would have messed with her under cross-examination for the inconsistencies in her interviews back in the day. I think she is ready to be done with that level of misery.

@ajdukakis
on the jury’s 3rd full day of deliberations [technically 4 days deliberating total - just a couple of hrs their first day], as my colleague @AaronKatersky
smartly notes, it became clear jurors are parsing the language of the charges Ghislaine Maxwell faces.

Late afternoon jury’s note asked abt the aiding and abetting element of count 4, Transportation of an Individual Under the Age of 17 (Jane only) w/Intent to Engage in Illegal Sexual Activity. Earlier, jury asked for a definition of enticement, an element in 2 charges vs Maxwell

The jury will return tomorrow at 9 a.m.

This I like. So, they will be finding her guilty. We just don't know how guilty?
MOO.

Isnt that going to still happen in the civil case though?
