Yep. I was afraid to link to it in my post #323. There's a name connected to that.

Well, it's a community association website, so of course it has lots of names, but it's not a private site, which many of them are, it's public, for all to see.

I'm not sleuthing any names, I haven't mentioned any names, I have no idea what names you're talking about. I posted the link to increase understanding of the situation on the ground in this small community that is at the center of this terrible tragedy, not to single anybody out.

Of course if mods have a problem with it for another reason, then I'm very sorry, it escaped me and still does....:innocent:

Having grown up in the area, I can understand why she would have told the police "Jones Beach". If someone were to give you directions to Oak Beach, they would include " past Jones Beach" in those directions, or "near Fire Island". I believe the road is referred to as the "Jones Beach Causeway". Locals would say Oak Beach, or "near where OBI used to be," but out-of-towners" would probably only remember Jones Beach or Fire Island.

Verity, No, no, no. I didn't mean it like that. I meant it creeped me out. I looked at it and was like "Whoa", and then just threw the question out there. That's what I mean by "afraid".

Sorry if you misunderstood. I'm sorry if I offended you. No it's a public site alrightie.

Oh the name thing is how I came upon it. Could be anyone's name.;)

Oh, I'm not offended at all Filly! I probably sound defensive and don't mean to, just explaining in case I did anything wrong. Perhaps I shouldn't have posted it, perhaps it's too prying, but I think it's important to counterbalance the very limited view of this community we've had so far as "desolate", a place for sex and drugs and "dumping ground" for homicide victims.

I think their website shines out as a truer reflection of this community, as a place where there is a real sense of community. The families there have get-togethers, picnics, BBQs, fishing trips, and parades during the year. It shows they keep in touch by newsletter and get involved in volunteers projects - their efforts to restore and conserve the shoreline and beaches is wonderful. We must never forget that side exists as a positive force for good, and not assume that whoever is responsible for these terrible crimes comes from this community. All we know is the SK comes to this community, not the reverse.

I feel desperately sorry for these families caught up in this situation, especially the children. I do hope the schools will offer some counseling, and I really hope it doesn't go down in history the same as Amityville, but fear that it will, movie and all. What a shame.

Where did you get info. that one of the women spent 5 weeks in the Pines?! The Pines is a gay summer community on the other end of Fire Island. Have you confused it with somewhere else? Also - this case is reminiscent, unfortunately, of so many over the years - in which the most vulnerable (and considered expendable) women - prostitutes - were killed by a misogynistic sociopath for his own pleasure. I don't think conspiracies/cults or groups of men more than 2 (there are also many cases of 2 working together, not as common but it happens) come into play here, and there's nothing to indicate they would. Or surfers, for that matter. It's not California - the surfers I've seen in that area are just local and young.

I don't know if I'm allowed to link a FB page, but there is one and HA, Raffas husband has a bunch of photos and there are comments under them, one being her in "the Pines house"

Not to be snarky, but I know well about the Pines and FI. I also know about the surfer scene, as I am a surfer myself. You are dead wrong about the surf scene. Gilgo has many surf contests, has a definite longstanding scene and has for decades. There are a lot of surfers 40, 50 and 60yo. You might want to google Bunger's Surf Shop--the owner alone is a legend. As for how I know she was in the Pines, I sleuthed around FB and it's right there in pictures and comments.

Not to get in the middle of this... :-) but I too thought they spent the 5 weeks somewhere else - specifically in a motel in Jericho where they had work, I'll try and find the link. That's not to say they couldn't have traveled to the Pines, but there's only one photo marked the Pines on the FB page that I could find and it's of a kitchen dated 2001, but does suggest they lived there at that time.

ETA: Hugh Auslander said yesterday he and his wife, Kim Raffo -- a crack addict and prostitute -- moved from Florida to a motel in Jericho, LI, in September 2006 to work for a friend and attempt to regain custody of their two children, who had been placed in foster care in New Jersey.

Looking at it again, it looks like it was 2001. Might not even be the Pines on FI. Jericho is not really near Oak Beach...I don't feel these cases are connected. Oak beach is SO different from AC, especially the area of AC these poor souls were found in. Pristine vs. Seedy Hell

I agree fashionella, I don't think KR's 5 weeks on LI has anything to do with what happened in Oak Beach, it's too far away, and makes no sense that the SK chased her back to AC.

I am hanging onto my theory for the SK being a seasonal worker for now - e.g Security Guard working summers at Jones Beach Theater, winters in Atlantic City Casinos. Could even be LE or ex-LE - don't know about anywhere else, but on LI, they moonlight doing event security in the summer.

TY!! :great:

Now! Can we believe what's said in print here?..IOW! Believe this to be 'fact' & settle this issue for good?

You may discuss what is in MSM. You must link back to the article. I have read this article and don't see any names - so there are still no names that can be printed.

Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks,

Salem

Experts warn that, while they can't predict what will come next, discovering another set of bodies along Ocean Parkway is not beyond the realm of possibility.

"My concern is that there could be another site," said Vernon Geberth, former head of the NYPD Bronx homicide squad. "If you have a cluster of four and another cluster of four, you may have another cluster of four. This guy appears to be quite a prolific serial killer."

None of the human remains found within the past two weeks near Gilgo Beach were wrapped in burlap, a source with knowledge of the investigation said Saturday, unlike the four discovered last year.

The burlap, a key piece of evidence among other shared traits of the victims found in December, led Suffolk police to believe they were the targets of a serial killer.

No determination has been made on whether the remains found March 29 and Monday are linked to the previous remains of four women who worked as prostitutes, police said. But "very significant" differences exist between the two sets that raise the possibility that the deaths are the work of more than one killer, the source said.

Investigators do not yet know the age of the remains found recently along Ocean Parkway, but one of them is "clearly quite old," the source said.

I think that anyone who watches Nancy Grace knows that they shouldn't use their cell phone because it can be tracked. I don't know why only LE would know that. Its pretty public knowledge. They give this guy too much credit.

Agreed.

LE has been using the media to flatter this killer's intelligence all along. They must have a profile suggesting that this could make him overconfident and tempt him into doing something obvious.

I wonder if the SK has already communicated with law enforcement. Some SKs do taunt the police, and this killer has already communicated unnecessarily with Barthelmy's sister.

I thought this Crime Map might be useful for looking at crime on Long Island.

It is interactive, here is the version of all the homicides on Long Island for the last year. There were 9 Homicides on LI, during the last year, quite clustered, geographically, actually.

You can select your catergories according to crime (homicides, assault, thefts etc.)

There is a description of each incident in detail, located below.

http://longisland.newsday.com/newsday/crime/

ETA: The link is not saving my chosen setting of "homicide" only. Simply deselect all the other categories, and change the date range to "year". This will show you the homicides.
