What could the motive possibly be if not a hate crime?

I agree. I find it premature that they are calling it not a hate crime, especially this early in the investigation. Imo.

I agree it shouldn’t be ruled out as a hate crime yet unless they already know motive.

I could see it being a hate crime but also we’ve seen some really awful cases where these things happened that had nothing to do with this for motive. The most basic is just being that they are really really horrific individuals.

Hopefully either direction they can pin it down concretely and treat it appropriately

I really hope there is someone who is supporting these children and getting them services to address their trauma from the life they have been living. How terribly sad!

Omg this is beyond. It’s all bad enough but to have children assaulting?!?

This case is near to me both geographically and emotionally. I have several non-binary and trans male friends, including one trans male friend who specifically moved to the Rochester region because of how trans-friendly it allegedly is. I would love to hear the rationale behind not treating this as a hate crime. No matter what, this is a level of depravity that is beyond comprehension and the fact that it is so close to home makes it that much more disturbing. I cannot get this case out of my mind for even a second. I physically feel it in my flesh and my bones. It is just so truly and utterly horrible. Every trickle of news makes it even more upsetting and bewildering.

There aren't words to describe this crime. Truly one of the most depraved things I've ever read about on this forum.

I don't know that the American justice system is set up for those children, also victims, to get the years of therapy they will require, but I hope beyond hope that they get what they need.

I don't know what can/will be done for those children. I can't imagine the life they had had up to the point of this crime, being raised and surrounded by such horrible people. And now, to have been pulled into this crime and to have been subjected to what they have been, I just despair at the thought that it is even possible for them to become whole and functioning members of society. Mental health services in the US are incredibly lacking and the type of specialized care these children would need to have any hope of recovery and rehabilitation is probably far beyond the socio-economic means they will end up in, assuming they end up with family members or in the foster care system.
