"A Monroe man is claiming to know accused fiance killer Angelika Graswald from her time spent frequenting a swinger's club in New Jersey...
VanDunk says Graswald and Vincent Viafore were regulars..."

I could read it all. Not much more to it except he described her as a vulture who was looking for a sugar daddy, and that the club in question was called Illusions and is now closed.

I watched the video of the "devastated fiancée" who gave an interview five days after the "accident." Her English is perfect; she even dropped a couple of slang words. What an actress.

Kinda making me think the diaries entries were written "after the fact."

more detailed info about the rescue, so it wasn't a passing boater, it was people who could visibly see her from the Yacht Club:

At around 7:30 p.m., a woman at the Cornwall Yacht Club spotted Graswald, who was wearing a life jacket, and with two other members set out in the club’s work boat and rescued her. By the time they brought her ashore, emergency responders had arrived. Graswald told her rescuers Viafore was still missing, so the club members “turned around and went back out in the water,” says club commodore Jeff Schaak, in search for Viafore, who police later said was not wearing a life jacket. As the night dragged on, more boats joined the search. “There were helicopters and flashing lights all over Cornwall,” Seiz says.

Just after midnight, police found Viafore’s blue kayak in the Hudson near Plum Point Park, where the couple’s outing had started. But his body never turned up.

Her first marriage ended in 2003 and soon after, Graswald married another Connecticut man, Richard Graswald Jr. She practiced amateur photography for a while, occasionally entering photo contests, and did archival research work at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum near Poughkeepsie. In 2009, Graswald’s divorce got nasty. “She basically wiped him out, took way more stuff than she should have…. He ended up needing a court order to get them back.” (Richard Graswald Jr. could not be reached for comment and Angelika Graswald’s lawyer did not respond to a request for comment on that subject; public records show that their divorce involved a financial dispute and a request for the “return of personal items.”)

When Hammond saw Graswald and Viafore’s ex-wife, Suzanne Viafore, at the April 24 get-together, he was struck by the difference in their demeanors. “The ex-wife was a mess and me and her shared a hug for a few minutes and cried together,” he says. “When I hugged [Angelika], I just didn’t feel anything and it just seemed cold.”

__

Viafore’s family is still hoping his body will be found. “We’re taking it one day at a time,” says his mother, Mary Ann Viafore, “and just praying that they bring him home.”

Thanks JG, I was waiting to hear more about the rescue.

from your link:
The water was choppy and unseasonably cold, about 46 degrees. The winter had been long and icy and local kayakers knew it was too early to hit the water, especially at night. Kris Seiz, who runs kayak tours in the area, describes conditions that night as “treacherous… I would never have gone in a kayak

My thoughts since day one when I heard it on local news.

From her red kayak, she called the police, and then, she says, she wound up in the water too
Funny how in all that choppy, cold water she had her cell phone at the ready.

At the first, his longtime friend Steven Hammond says Graswald had a section roped off with her name posted. “She seemed to be relishing in the attention that she was getting,” he says.

And at the second, she asked a musician friend if she could jump on stage with his acoustic guitar and perform “Hotel California.” “She was coming from one party, coming to the next,” says that friend, Sean Von Clauss.

Not one, but 2 parties, what a sicko.

Good point about exceeding article/mo. limits, and why it's good therefore to provide a synopsis of links.

She stuck with at least one routine, volunteering at Bannerman Castle, which she had done every Wednesday morning for a year. There, she would help weed the garden and plant flowers with 10 or so other people. On April 29, 10 days after the kayaking incident, as she was tending to the zinnias and marigolds and bee balms and preparing a floating wreath for Viafore, state investigators showed up to ask her questions they hoped would guide their search for Viafore’s body. They would later say there were inconsistencies in her answers, so they took her back to shore and arrested her for murder.

A judge set Graswald’s bail at $3 million cash or $9 million bond. She has not made bail.

Paddling experts say the two made a long list of rookie mistakes <modsnip>

A close inspection of an online photograph of the couple’s kayaks showed the brand to be Zet Kayak USA, a company that specializes in white-water kayaks. In general, kayakers who plan to cover long distances in choppy water, like the Hudson, will choose a boat that is long — around 13 to 15 feet — such as a touring kayak. A touring kayak also has twin bulkheads, or sealed-off hollow areas in the bow and stern, assuring maximum buoyancy. “White-water kayaks are short, and there’s little or no flotation,” Mr. Grahn said. “It’s the worst choice for the Hudson.” Some white-water kayaks have drain plugs on the top that are used to rid the kayak of any water by flipping the boat over back on dry land. Graswald’s lawyer, Richard Portale, said that Mr. Viafore’s plug was in the couple’s apartment and that it had been pulled out of the kayak some time ago.

In theory, a missing plug would not cause the kayak to flood since the hole is small. In very choppy conditions, however, waves will splash directly into the cockpit, causing the kayak to ride low in the water and become unstable.

“Vincent went out to the island in those waters, at that time of day, with no life vest and no plug and a few beers,” he said. “Vincent capsized and drowned, and it’s tragic.”

Great article - thanks for pointing us to it. The speculation is what I've been thinking - once he was out of the kayak, he was without it immediately and couldn't hang on to it because it was away from him. I had been thinking that AG also got a hold of his kayak and kept it from him, but perhaps that wasn't even necessary. JMO.

"...given the strong wind and rough waters that evening, it is possible that Mr. Viafore was separated from his kayak the moment he went over."

So...she admitted "tampering" with the kayak, and the plug was found in her apartment. We really can't tell by that evidence if she pulled it in advance or pulled it that day and kept it.

If she pulled it in advance, why didn't he notice? And did she do it hoping he would capsize "someday" rather than specifically the day they went to the island? Seems a rather unsure method to kill someone. But perhaps she had other little vindictive things she was doing against him as well, in passive-aggressive way, and this one killed him, to her happiness.

If she pulled it on the day of the outing spontaneously out of anger, why keep it?

Well, at any rate, my guess is that SHE knew the plug was pulled and HE didn't.

All around, seems like a rather careless outing on both of their parts. I'm surprised by that. (Not that I think anyone deserves to die for being careless.)

Wild speculation....is the plug in the apartment a clue that it's all a hoax? The plug could've been planted there as "evidence" to explain why he "capsized" accidentally.

I really don't think they faked his death, but it's irresistible to ponder.

The more I read, the more I believe the whole kayaking trip IS the ELABORATE RUSE. What is stated by the kayaking instructor above makes total sense to me. Plus, remembering that his friends commented about him never going out in a kayak without a life vest. Now, AG's lawyer is saying he had a few beers. Nothing like trying to blame the victim.

The only thing that doesn't work with my above thoughts is that the police stated they believe whatever occurred happened on the water. Is it possible that she shot him, somehow removed his life vest, attempted to clean the kayak (would explain the tampering perhaps,) and sent him underwater? Plausible? Not? Any thoughts?

Hopefully they will find him so his body can provide the answers we're all seeking.

I can't believe they still can't find him. The area where he went missing is far up the Hudson that I don't believe (IMHO) that his body washed out into the Atlantic. If anything, the further south, the closer you are to recreational boaters and ships where he could easily be found .... if he's really in the Hudson (MOO).

It's Fleet Week in New York City, hopefully someone will see him if his body ended up south of the GWB.

She sat down and spoke to PEOPLE magazine from jail:

Graswald shared details of how she and Viafore often daydreamed together of the lives they would share as they planned a simple wedding in August in Latvia. Graswald says: "I'm numb. I'm devastated. The truth will prevail."

She described that night ... the water was really choppy, with waves "as high as a person" and strong tides. "It was scary," she says.

Crying, she recalled how, after Viafore's kayak capsized, he told her to call 911, which she says she did – trying to keep the phone dry by bracing it between her legs inside her own kayak.

---

On Thursday, Graswald will begin her fourth week in jail, but has yet to be arraigned, though OC ADA said, "We should be announcing something relatively shortly." Richard Portale, said that the DA is "intentionally withholding" the filing of the arraignment and, as such, denying Graswald her rights to see the prosecutor's evidence, build a defense and have a speedy trial. "Angelika's just sitting there [in jail] while they continue to investigate," says Portale. "It's very difficult for her. She's putting up a false front to portray she is happy, but at this point, it's pretty obvious she is hurting."

"He [Viafore] was pressuring her [for rough sex and threesomes]," Portale says this isn't a motivation for murder. "But he didn't force her and there wasn't any rage or scorn."
