GUILTY NZ - Two Children's Remains Found in Suitcases Bought at Auction - Auckland *Mother Arrested*

So their tragic story won't be told, the suspect's identity remains a secret? Hopefully that is temporary. It sounds like these children only had their mother left and then...?

Children’s father died of cancer late 2017

Dad died in late 2017. Mum arrived in South Korea in the second half of 2018. I would say they have their time period in which the children died.

Was the father Korean, also? Or has that info been withheld as well?

This article says ..... "Their parents, who are both from Seoul, South Korea, married in New Zealand."

Hopefully they've checked that he really did die of cancer...

Apparently, it is believed that the children might still have some relatives in NZ. It is stated that the children were born in 2009 and 2012 respectively. That would make them approximately 9 and 6 years old, if they died four years ago :(

Thought I would have a look and see if South Korean MSM are reporting on this matter. They are. At least several of their major news agencies (all of the ones I looked at) are reporting on it.

This is from their largest daily English publication, The Korea Herald.

"The woman is a Korean New Zealander who was originally a Korean citizen, and later acquired New Zealand nationality. She has lived in the address related to the case for a long time, according to the local police."

" ..... the victims were two children between the age of five and 10, with relatives living in New Zealand and family in Asia."

"The Korean police reportedly asked the New Zealand police for documents requesting cooperation, citing the need for legal grounds such as a New Zealand court warrant to identify the woman’s residence."

So there may be grandparents in NZ who have been believing all this time that the children went back to Korea with their mother. Those poor people.

I can't imagine the horror even must for the folks who purchased the unit. We have watched Storage Wars. Imagine fingers crossed hoping treasures or just stuff that could also be sold will be inside , and unzipping the suitcases.. omg
Something tells me that those folks may not participate in any more storage unit auctions.:(

I daresay that the person/persons who put those suitcases in storage did not realise that eventually they would be sold, but thought that they would remain there forever.

Why would anyone buy others' junk?
I really don't get it!

They buy it in case there are items worth lots of money stored in the units. There are TV shows about it — like ‘Storage Wars’, etc.

In most areas of the US, there are flea markets & antique malls -- selling all sorts of things that aren't nice enough to be Antiques for the most part.

Some people make a business of buying the contents of storage lockers and selling those items through such a place. Things like end tables, lamps, bulky kids' toys, holiday decorations, mirrors, dishes, yard tools.

I know people who successfully supplement their retirement income this way, but they also have storage space for the items so that they can rotate stock in their flea market booths. They are also handy, and will clean & fix items.

Nothing comes into their home until they are certain there are no pests!

imho the New Zealand relatives didn't know. They only knew that Mom had the children, and Mom returned to Korea.

The New Zealand family may have sent birthday or holiday cards, attempted phone calls, or mostly mourned the death of their own family member.

They may be planning proper internment now.

As a family matter, we may not learn much more.

If the returned-to-Korea Mom is charged with crimes, we may learn more.

But -- I live in the US -- how is privacy handled in New Zealand in a criminal case? I know that policies & practices are different in the UK than in the US.

Locals, please keep posting!

Yes, it’s quite popular to attend the self storage unit auctions around here. I’ve been to a few. The ones that I have seen and/or purchased contain mostly furniture with the odd box of linens, framed pictures, lamps. Rarely see clothes or suitcases.

A shock new twist in the heartbreaking case of two children found dead in unclaimed bags has emerged as it was revealed their father died of a cancer a year before their mother went missing.

The sickening discovery of the boy and girl, who are thought to be aged between five and 10 when they died four years ago, rocked the world after they were discovered in New Zealand on August 11.

The dumped pair were found after a family purchased the contents of a storage unit and the children were found in two suitcases inside.

New Zealand and South Korean police are now searching for the mother of the children after discovering the father of the duo died from cancer in 2017.

She is currently listed as missing, but it's thought she flew to the Asian country back in 2018 when they children died.

Detectives have now revealed that up to a year before she flew to South Korea, her husband, the children's father, died from cancer.
