The shooting happened Feb. 12 in the 3400 block of Grinnell Road around 11 a.m.

>> FIRST REPORT: ‘Shootout’ near Yellow Springs could have been ambush, Greene County sheriff says

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office identified the two people killed during a shootout outside a Yellow Springs area home as Cheryl Sanders and her husband Robert Reed Sanders.

An incident report lists the case as a justifiable homicide.

Both Cheryl Sanders and Robert Reed Sanders died from multiple gunshot wounds, said Greene County Coroner Kevin Sharrett. His office is still looking at ballistics to determine who fired shots and how many times.

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE INVOLVED:

The people killed in the shooting are Lindsey Duncan’s ex-wife, Cheryl Sanders, and her current husband, Robert Reed Sanders.

Cheryl Sanders, who was a celebrity spokeswoman and stunt woman, appeared on the cover of Healthy Living Magazine.

She was a stunt double for Brooke Shields, Sharon Stone and other A-list actresses.

Robert Reed Sanders had been licensed in real estate in Texas. Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer said Thursday the man had a criminal record, but he did not elaborate.

Lindsey is the founder and CEO of Genesis Today who appeared on the Dr. Oz Show and The View nearly a decade ago to talk about weight loss.

Court records show that Lindsey Duncan and Cheryl Sanders signed a prenuptial agreement in 1999, were married, then divorced in 2009.

Cheryl Sanders and Lindsey Duncan have two daughters, the Greene County Sheriff said. Both are college-age.

Since the divorce, the records indicate their relationship remained sour.

According to a court filing in 2016, Lindsey sued Cheryl Sanders and Robert Duncan for defamation, slander, libel and other accusations.

“Defendant Cheryl provided a written statement to both boards of Genesis Pure and Genesis Today, as well as non-board members, employees and various members of the plaintiff’s family,” the suit says. “This statement accused the Plaintiff of false, malicious, defamatory and vicious accusations, which defamed both the plaintiff and Genesis Today and Genesis Pure.”

Exactly what was said isn’t spelled out in the lawsuit. The lawsuit claims Lindsey Duncan was subjected to numerous attempts at extortion and harassment.

Motions in the lawsuit have been filed as recently as September of last year.

WHAT LINDSEY AND MOLLY DUNCAN SAY:

The couple spoke for the first time after the shooting the Friday after the gunfire outside their Grinnell Road home.

Lindsey Duncan said the couple had just returned to their home. He said a man with a camouflage mask and hoodie ran up and held a gun to Molly Duncan’s head while the two were getting the mail.

“I thought it was a bad nightmare. Whatever happened after that was instinct,” Lindsey Duncan said. “All of a sudden, hell began’

He struggled to fight back tears as he explained what he remembered from the shooting.

Lindsey Duncan said in two separate gun battles, bullets were flying inches past his wife’s head.

Molly Duncan said: “I’m extremely thankful to be alive. I’m a mother and I still get to see my kids grow up.”

The couple thanked the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for their support in the days following the shooting.

Lindsey Duncan said law enforcement was “exactly right” to say the pair ambushed him in his driveway.

HOW WAS THE SHOOTING REPORTED:

A man identifying himself as Lindsey Duncan can be heard in a 911 call alerting law enforcement that he had shot two people who he says threatened to kill him and his wife.

>> Greene County 911 caller: ‘They came up to our window and had a gun pointed at my wife’s head’

“I shot them, they came up to our window and had a gun pointed at my wife’s head,” Lindsey Duncan told a dispatcher while asking for authorities to get to his 3443 Grinnell Road home as quickly as possible.

WHAT IS A FRIEND OF THE SANDERS’ SAYING

The couple who died in a Greene County shooting Wednesday had come to Ohio to confront the woman's ex-husband about access to their children's college fund, according to a close friend of the couple.

Adrian King, a former business partner of Reed Sanders, told the Dayton Daily News that money was at the root of the dispute.

"Supposedly, both Cheryl and Lindsey had to sign off on any money that was taken out of the fund for the girls," said King, 81, of North Carolina. "But part of the trust was that Lindsey could withhold funds if the girls didn't go to a school that he approved of, and that's what they were fighting over."

>> Friend: Slain couple confronted ex-husband over kids’ college fund

King said he is a former business partner of Reed Sanders and is a lay minister who performed Reed and Cheryl's wedding ceremony. He called himself Reed Sanders' "closest confidant."

King said with both girls currently in college, and without access to the educational trust fund, "Reed and Cheryl had been put in a financial crunch." He said the couple had filed a lawsuit against Duncan over access to the money, but the issue had not been resolved.

WHAT DO INVESTIGATORS KNOW SO FAR?

A camera system was set up in the area of the shooting, said Sheriff Gene Fischer. A phone found in Sanders’ car was reportedly receiving that video.

Fischer said that about five years ago the homeowner told the sheriff’s office that he believed his ex-wife, Cheryl Sanders, was trying to hire someone to kill him. That was the only threat that the sheriff’s office received.

Once the investigation is complete, information will be presented to the grand jury for review of any potential charges, according to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office.

The sheriff’s office is trying to talk to as many people as possible while investigating the shooting and asked that anyone who thinks they may have any information to contact them.

Yellow Springs couple describes shooting as 'ambush'

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) -- Lindsey and Molly Duncan spoke to reporters today at the Yellow Springs library, two days after two people were shot and killed outside their home on Grinnell Road.

Lindsey said the couple had just returned from a routine trip into Yellow Springs Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 2020, when hell began.

"All I remember was a 6-foot-something 6-foot-5 man, that was probably 230 pounds with a camo mask, a full camo mask and hoodie on, ran to my wife's driver's side with a gun, and held it about 10 inches from her head. And I thought it was a bad nightmare. I didn't know what to do. Whatever happened after that was instinct," Lindsey said.

Lindsey said they had stopped the car at their home's gate to get the mail and an Amazon package when they were "ambushed."

"I will tell you she (Molly) was in the middle of two separate gun battles, of bullets flying by her head, four inches, five inches, six inches by her, not one time but two separate times. And her being alive today, I'll never be able to explain that. And it wasn't one shot or two shots, it seemed like a hundred shots and there were shells everywhere. And that's all I can really say, and I've probably said too much but that's enough."

Dead are Cheryl Sanders, 59, and Robert R. Sanders, 56. They were married. Cheryl also had been married to Lindsey Duncan. They shared two college-aged children.

Molly also spoke about the shooting.

"I'm extremely thankful to be alive, and thankful my husband's alive. And he's my absolute hero, thank god he knew how to respond and stayed calm and knew exactly what to do and God was on our side that day, no question. And god orchestrated everything perfectly so we would survived," Molly Duncan said. "I'm a mother and I still get to see my kids grow up."

After the statement, which was initially not supposed to include questions, a reporter asked their attorney, Gregory Lind, about a rumor citing a friend of the deceased claiming they had gone there simply to talk to Lindsey about an educational trust fund.

Lindsey responded.

"With two weapons? With multiple clips that were loaded ... ski masks? The details of the investigation will come out," he said.

Sheriff Gene Fischer said Lindsey had called his office five years ago worried Cheryl was trying to kill him.

Dayton 24/7 Now Reporter Molly Reed found a lawsuit between the former couple from 2016.

Cheryl was a former celebrity stunt-woman and Lindsey is the founder of a nutrition supplement company.

Lindsey sued Cheryl for defamation, saying Cheryl breached contract and wrote a malicious letter about him and sent it to other supplement companies.

Lindsey said at the press conference that he and Cheryl have two daughter together and he had to bring them the news from Wednesday.

"The most difficult of this whole process besides listening to my wife say I'm going to die, they're going to kill me is having to tell my two daughters that their mother's been shot," he said.

Molly said there was no discussion between the couple before the shooting started and they don't know the motive.

"We were caught off guard and we said nothing, they started shooting at us," she said.

Lindsey added: "The sheriff issued the exact right word it was an absolute and total ambush."

The sheriff's office is also trying to find a motive right now. It says it's waiting for the BCI investigation to finish, the coroner's report, and also trying to get some security footage. It says there's still a lot of questions that need to be answered.

Cheryl Sanders, 59 — who appeared in “Back to the Future II” and has been a stunt double for Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman and Jessica Alba — died alongside her husband Reed Sanders, 56, on Wednesday.

They traveled at least six hours from their home in North Carolina to confront the stuntwoman’s ex-husband, Lindsey Duncan, and his wife Molly outside their home in Yellow Springs, according to reports.

“All of a sudden, hell began,” Duncan told a press conference of the “absolute, total ambush” that sparked two gun battles with hundreds of shots fired.

Duncan ultimately shot dead his ex-wife and her husband, authorities say. He has not been charged during the ongoing investigation, with the case currently listed as a justifiable homicide, according to the Dayton Daily News.

“The most difficult of this whole process — besides listening to my wife say, ‘I’m going to die, they’re going to kill me’ — is having to tell my two daughters that their mother’s been shot,” Duncan said of the girls he shared with his dead ex-wife, according to Dayton 24/7 Now.

Nutritionist Duncan told a press conference that he and his wife, Molly, were returning from a normal morning run for coffee and “and our eggs and our kale” when they were victims of an “absolute, total ambush.”

He told the press conference that a “6-foot-something” man in “a full camo mask and hoodie” ran and put a gun just inches from his wife’s head. “I thought it was a bad nightmare,” he said. “Whatever happened after that was instinct.”

He said there were “two separate gun battles” with bullets flying inches away from his wife’s head.

And neither of them received any injury whatsoever? Do I read that correctly? Curious. "Shells everywhere" but none of them hit their intended targets. Hmmmm
Yes! Listening to their press meeting, it seems like bullets were flying but apparently the homeowners were 'lucky to escape with their lives'. The calls made to LE over the years by the homeowners were numerous too. But to drive from NC to OH to kill 2 people over a dispute about college funds only seems hard to believe. I guess we will see how motive plays out here as my guess is that little on the surface of things is as it seems.

Do hope that the Ohio State Crime folks take on this investigation as it will be complex but maybe not if it was all captured on video by the 2 deceased? IDK, lots of guns and lots of bullets fired.

“Adrian King, who described himself as a friend of the couple and Reed Sanders' business partner, told the Citizen Times on Feb. 14 that the dispute centered around a trust fund for two daughters Cheryl Sanders had with her ex-husband, Robert “Lindsey” Duncan. The money was supposed to pay for the girls' college expenses, King said.”
“Part of the problem is he had to sign off on wherever they went to school, and they didn’t go to the schools he wanted them to, so he refused on signing off on letting them have the money," King said...”
“The dispute had gone on for years and involved a lawsuit, King said.”

Couple describe deadly shooting as ambush: ‘All of a sudden, hell began’

Quotes from article:
Two days after a wild shootout on a rural Greene County road, the man who fired the fatal shots said Wednesday had been a calm, normal morning until “all of a sudden, hell began.”

At a Friday press conference held with his wife and attorney, Robert Lindsey Duncan said he and his wife were ambushed by his ex-wife, Cheryl Sanders, and her new husband, Reed Sanders. Duncan shot and killed both of them at the driveway to his multi-million dollar luxury home, two miles south of Yellow Springs.

Earlier Friday, Reed Sanders’ close friend Adrian King told the Dayton Daily News that the couple had come to Ohio to confront Duncan about problems with a college fund for Cheryl and Lindsey’s two daughters.

Asked if that was the issue the couple raised, Duncan implied that was not the case.

“With two weapons?” he asked reporters. “With multiple clips that were loaded? The details of the investigation will all come out.”

Duncan’s wife Molly said the Sanders couple made no effort to discuss any issue.

“The word ambush is exactly what it was,” Molly Duncan said. “We were caught off guard. They said nothing and they started shooting at us.”

An incident report from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office lists the case as a justifiable homicide. Greene County Coroner Kevin Sharrett said both Cheryl Sanders and Reed Sanders died from multiple gunshot wounds. His office is still looking at ballistics to determine who fired shots and how many times.

The sheriff’s office did not respond to questions Friday about statements the Duncans made at Friday’s press conference.

Shooting details

In recounting the incident, Duncan, founder of a health/weight-loss company, told media that he and Molly went to Yellow Springs on Wednesday morning, which is part of their routine.

“We get our coffee. We went to the emporium to get our eggs and our kale and our toast. And then we went home, like we do every day,” he said.

Duncan said they got out of their car to get mail and packages at their gate, when a large man in a camouflage mask and hoodie ran to his wife and held a gun 10 inches from her head.

----------------------------

King said on Friday morning, law enforcement officials in North Carolina sealed the home of Reed and Cheryl Sanders pursuant to a search warrant. King said Reed Sanders’ 84-year-old mother, who lives in a basement apartment of the property, was forced out of the house, and King was trying to arrange for a place for her to stay.

“They sealed the property and removed her and the dogs,” King said. “That was this morning. …They’re looking for any kind of evidence indicating that Reed and Cheryl were ambushing Lindsey Duncan.”

The 911 tape on TMZ only has one shot - the one that shot Cheryl Wheeler Sanders, who allegedly ambushed them after Reed Sanders, according to Lindsey and Molly's story. Also, one of the Dayton news reports showed a tent set up in the middle of the road, quite a distance from the driveway.
