Ferretmommy indicated in a previous post that Baby Elaina was on oral medication for thrush. As a mom/foster mom of 5 and an aunt to many, I have had some experience with thrush and I'm puzzled that Elaina wasn't heard more than what the adults in the house are saying, especially since she wasn't feeling well. I could understand a baby 'napping' that long with a fever or if she was given medication for pain.

Was the medicine for thrush prescribed or OTC? Did anyone mention seeing the baby at feeding time or being fed? Breakfast? Lunch? IMO, a 17month old should be eating solids. From my own experience; even babies that have thrush get hungry...and then fussy because it hurts to eat. I'm still inclined to believe that 'mom' knows exactly what happened to the baby whether she shook her too hard :banghead:, gave her too much meds :banghead: or used some other method to quiet her :banghead:, or allowed someone else to do something that hurt her :stormingmad:.

Of course, this is all my very own opinion. Praying for Elaina's safe return :please::please::please:

Safe travels vasportsmom.

The medicine was prescribed, she had been to the doctors for the condition in the past week. My opinion is that Angela knows where she is...

I wish the father would reach out to one of missing kids organizations that could help him drum up more media coverage. I really feel like the truth would come out pretty quickly if enough reporters started pushing the right buttons. I suspect that this is not a group of people that would welcome LE and the media poking around in their business for long and loyalties would suddenly change if it meant getting the spotlight off of them.

None of us have even thought of going to one of the missing kids organizations, I don't even know of any in the area. Will check after finishing this reply. I did send in my info to become verified last night and left my phone number for contact, got up this morning and saw I had a response questioning if I was available then, but I had gone to bed. It is now 8:30 pm Friday night, and I have not gotten a call from anyone as far as becoming verified yet...

I also checked for missing children organizations, I found National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Ohio Attorney General's site and she is listed on both sites.

What do they give babies for thrush? Antibiotics? That wouldn't quiet a crying baby. Did she fill the script?

"oral fungal medication called Nystatin. You'll "paint" the medicine on the white patches with the enclosed applicator (or your finger) several times a day for ten days. It may take a week to clear up the infection. If the infection doesn't seem to be clearing up, call your doctor. Some babies with thrush also develop a yeast diaper infection. If that happens, your doctor can prescribe a fungal medication to use in the diaper area."

The sixth day of searching for 18 month old Elaina Steinfurth comes to end with no information, and the clock is ticking, "as time goes on, it gets harder the odds goes down," explains Toledo police sergeant Joe Heffernan.

"Our best chances of catching somebody or recovering somebody when something like this occurs is in the first several hours," adds Heffernan. For police the first 48 hours are key in finding a missing person. But on May 6th, an exception. Three teenage women feared dead after missing for nearly a decade re-emerged to the public. "As we've seen in Cleveland, it doesn't necessarily mean that this is not going to turn out to be a happy ending. It certainly can. I think a lot of or even most law enforcement wrote off those girls in Cleveland," says Heffernan.

Optimism is what kept the families of the Cleveland kidnapping victims strong. that same optimism is what's keeping Elaina's family going to the next day, "we're trying to leave as much hope out there for the families as possible by searching everywhere we can humanly search," explains Heffernan.

Toledo police say their investigation along the river may continue this weekend.

It's usually an antifungal and is prescription strength. Oral thrush is fairly common in breastfed babies. Mom and baby pass it back and forth and usually both have to be treated even if only one is having symptoms. Yeast diaper rashes are also common in very young children. My daughter had one and had to be treated with RX Nystatin powder. If taking the medication as directed the fungus (thrush/yeast) clears up very quickly.

So thankful I didn't get thrush nor mastitis when I was nursing my son. Instead, I got Inflammatory Breast Cancer.

So it appears that the only issue Nystatin could give is gastro problems.

I've thought about this a lot while looking over these cases and I'm a real anxious personality type anyway. It doesn't take a ton of drama to trip me over into freak show land. I think if one of my kids were missing, honestly, I don't even know if I could upright and conscious enough to be on camera. When they say get in front of the camera and beg and plead , I do not know if I could. I mean I guess I would do what I had to but it was just be hysteria/waterworks/unintelligible . People would feel bad or have me committed, but the straight face, dry eyes thing..... if they're not guilty, they are amazingly composed people to do that !

At least Susan Smith put a little effort into it...

Yes I also found that very very odd. Which mother talks about her own comfort at a time like this?

A mother like Casey Anthony, who was complaining about sitting in jail while her child was "missing."

Kathlynn has been found and her family finally has answers, though not ones they had hoped for. Please let the outcome for sweet Elaina's family be much different.

I keep meaning to say that I had oral thrush last year and it was very, VERY painful.

  • #516
AuntB , I've only rarely even heard of humans with thrush. How would a baby get it? Is it serious? Is it painful ? TIA

I am not positive, but I don't think it's as common these days as it used to be years ago. It's like an irritating rash inside the mouth.. probably very painful when trying to eat. It would definitely cause a baby to be fussy. I'm also not sure if they sell any kind of OTC meds, I would think she would have had to see a doctor to prescribe something... otherwise how would she know what it was?

I can't say, of course, but it's logical to think that a person might not have as much patience with a crying baby when it's not their own flesh and blood, and especially if the mother was not invited and maybe is not wanted there in the first place. Just guessing, of course.

Today is one full week. Where is this gorgeous baby ? How's the weather in her area? Good for searching I hope.

It is really odd that she repeatedly refers to herself and Elaina's father in a way that would make a less informed listener assume they are still a couple.

He's in another relationship isn't he? I wonder how new that is. Is it possible that she wanted him back and he wasn't receptive so she decided hell would freeze over before he raised her "mommy's girl" with another woman? Or could she think that hiding the baby for a while would send him running back to her to be a happy family?

No disrespect intended but I didn't take it that way, that she was refers to them as a couple. She is referring to them as Elaina's parents. No matter what their relationship is, they do have a bond because of these two children. Doesn't make them a couple, just makes them the parents. And isn't she also in a relationship as well?
