After initially reading the headline, withhout reading any details, I added some comments.
I couldn't also go to the threads I follow, for awhile, because of evil everywhere, and Evie's Case upset me a great deal.
I only checked here, to see, if Evie has had a response, to her sad life.
So pleased there are caring people everywhere, who treasure animals and hope her life has been filled with loads of love.
Hope our love for her, helps somehow.
I am just prattling now, and so upset.

I understand, this made me feel physically sick, I always have to imagine what happened to her. And her fear. It is just so cruel

I am heartbroken after seeing the video of Evie playing with her ball Josephs Legacy what a beautiful dog she was. I keep checking for an update about what is happening with the monster(s) who have harmed her.

We used to watch this show all the time, and cry through most of it. Watching the rescue dogs and seeing how much they impact the parolees, and vice versa, was very heartwarming. So hearing this tragic news is devastating.

I know this program has done a lot of good for so many dogs and humans. I hope they can find a way to keep it running, but in a safer way for the animals. JMO

This case may come down to the fact that a group of prisoners, rather than a single individual, was involved. Mobs behave differently than individuals. It's also possible that one or more tried but failed to stop the attack on the dog.

I’ve been pondering the same thing. My favorite courses were about social psychology in corrections. The group think dynamic interwoven with environmental elements are so unpredictable. I also imagined the weaker on the totem pole and the more compassionate inmates fearful of retaliation if they intervened.

I'm so sad there are no updates in the news about justice for beautiful Evie. The individual(s) need to be punished for murdering her they can't let it slide because she is a dog. The monster(s) could easily harm another dog or a child if they get out.

Many animal rescue organizations successfully partner with prisons, allowing inmates to train, or simply spend time, with animals on a regular basis. An Ohio rescue group claims this was not the case for Evie, a foster dog they say was killed while participating in a prison program last month.

Animal rescue non-profit Joseph's Legacy, based in Middletown, Ohio, wrote in a Facebook post Sunday that 4-year-old Evie was killed while in the care of Warren Correctional Institution. "Evie was found in the cell, unresponsive by her handlers and she had passed away," the organization wrote.

The necropsy, or animal autopsy, revealed the German shepherd/Norwegian elkhound mix died from blunt force trauma to her abdomen, according to the post. "We're all undeniably angered and overwhelmingly upset," the post continues, "We have to get justice for Evie."

Thats really sad. There hould be very tough laws against animal cruelty and killings. There should life in prison if you brutally murder animals.

Katherine Hartung thought participating in an animal-assisted therapy program at Warren Correctional Institution would be good for Evie, the sweet-tempered mutt she fostered through Joseph's Legacy Animal Rescue.

The dog's health had improved immensely since she came to Joseph's Legacy flea-ridden, injured and nursing two puppies, and Hartung felt hopeful more positive interactions with humans would help prepare her for a forever home.

"There are times I still cry," Hartung said Friday. "I feel very guilty for having her in that program."

Evie's tag hangs from her rear-view mirror, reminding her of her new goal: To change the therapy program at the Warren Correctional Institution and perhaps even Ohio law to protect animals like Evie from being abused by the people they're meant to help.

"There's no legislation, nothing put in place for this prison program when it began in the ‘90s," she said.

Hartung's campaign to limit which inmates can participate in therapy animal programs has included calls to the Warren Correctional Institution, where officials said they would review the program after completing an investigation into Evie's death, and state legislators. Hurting has hope that Rep. Bill Patmon will draft an amendment to the state constitution that saves dogs' lives down the road.

"There are dogs still remaining in the prison program," she said. "Their lives are kind of at stake if there's not enough security in there."

But it’s being dealt with. Unfortunately that program pulled their other dogs. At least that’s what I hear. I don’t blame them though.
