George Wagner IV on trial in Pike Co massacre case. Attorneys arguing before jurors arrive this morning. They’re deciding which wire tap recordings will be played today.

Judge now instructing jurors that the recordings they will hear are clips of conversations. He says the written transcripts are listening aids only. They are not evidence. They do not replace your understanding of what you hear on the audio recordings.

Julia Eveslage on the witness stand. She works for Ohio BCI and was part of the team that listened to wire tap recordings of the Wagner family conversations.

She says the wire taps were placed in the sleeper cabin and driver/passenger area of the semi truck Jake and George drove. They were also placed on cell phones of the family.

George takes notes as attorneys discuss something with the judge on sidebar

The first recording jurors are hearing is a phone call between Jake and his new wife, Beth. She is telling him it's difficult to live with someone who thinks she is worse than a murderer.

Beth tells Jake over the phone, "I am constantly on edge." She is discussing Angela's false accusation that she abused Jake's daughter.

Jake tells her, "I could try talking to mom about how you feel about it and what not, but when it comes back down to it, it would be better if you talk to mom about how this is concerning you..." Beth relies, "She doesn't care diddly squat about how something affects me.”

Jake sighs, "I'll talk to her." Beth says, "There's pretty much no way of disproving that suspicion either.”

"I feel like I'm living in nazi Germany," Beth told Jake.

Recording 2: Jake and Angela talk about Beth

Angela: Beth is at the library again. What is she doing at the library every day for hours? Jake: using internet, applying for jobs

Angela: I thought it was a big deal. I thought saving our butts and keeping us safe and the kids safe was important. Jake: What's the big deal about her getting a job? You are delusional. Angela: "You've done enough damage, enough, around here.”

Angela reprimands Jake for telling his daughter that Angela is just her grandmother. She says now George's son is asking questions about her being a grandmother. Remember, prosecutors claim Angela told George's son she was his mother. Angela denied that on the witness stand.

Recording 3: Jake and Angela talk about the kids and Beth

Jake: I told her one time in Alaska that you were her grandmother. Angela: No, she said you told her this the other day. "I don't know how I'm going to fix this problem.”

George is writing notes to his attorney throughout the recordings, and his attorney, John Parker, shakes his head in acknowledgement.

Angela: Do you think it's right to put George's son in the middle of this and ruin his life?

Angela expressed anger that Beth was allowed to go to the library because she said she "thought everybody was supposed to hide”

Recording 4: George and Jake talk about Beth and the kids

The recording device that captured this conversation was hidden in the sleeper cabin of the semi the brothers drove around the country. They are arguing, shouting about the kids and Beth.

George tells Jake he does not trust him completely since Jake married Beth.

Lunch break until 1:00

The last recording was hard to hear. So, press asked for the transcripts. They are not evidence but listening aids. So, the judge denied the request.

Recording 6: George talks about Jake's daughter. This was captured by the recording device hidden in the sleeper cabin of the truck.

George and Jake are arguing about whether Jake would "rat" him out. George said "...first thing you would do is rat me out." It's hard for me to give you context on this because the road noise in the background overpowers parts of it.

Next recording: George and Angela talk about relationships with kids and Beth.

Angela tells George when he and his brother get home, they're going to have a family meeting.

Next: Outgoing call from George to Angela in which they talk about law enforcement

George tells his mom they should get on the news and expose the investigators for corruption. He suggests taking it to lawmakers. "You take the head off the snake, the body dies. You have to take the head off the snake.”

Next recording: George and Angela talk about Tabitha, his ex-wife.

Next: George and Jake talk about Special Agent Ryan Scheiderer

Now, Jake and his mom are discussing what she read in Beth's diary. She wrote that she could turn in Angela for the murders, but it wouldn't be true.

Jurors just heard George, Jake and Angela discussing punishments they would prefer if "they frame us".

Angela said she would prefer the electric chair because she would never want to spend a life living in prison. Jake said he would prefer a life sentence because he is certain he could get out at some point before he dies.

George said he understands, but he would prefer death but would hope to take down officers with him.

G4 was right.
But was Jake motivated to minimize George's role because of comments like this. He HAD to testify against them to get the deal, but he didn't want to. Sounds like he just didn't want to take anyone down with him and I am more convienced now that George did shoot and Jake "lying" was not to implicate George in something he didn't do, he was motivated to lie because he was trying to remain loyal to his brother even when he felt it was time to tell and save their lives.

Again, it's easy to hate Jake, he is hot headed, seems cold and matter of fact when he testified.. he is also on many medications so how much of his matter of fact testimony is literally his emotions being subdued by medication. I'll have to look for the list, but he rattled off quite a few meds he's on now.

In that same recording, George says Jake will rat them out he's the biggest rat of them all and that he should go to BCI and rat them out.

George should have followed his instinct and went to BCI as soon as he knew (I believe MT) and ratted them out. As it was he met a woman named Josie in AK and was going to take his son and move in with her. He should have.

JMO
Mommy Angel Dearest begged him back.

On phone recording George is saying Elizabeth could turn witness against them. Welp.
OMG and then saying just don't talk, the best thing to do is just don't talk. Ha why mommy Angela do we not want to talk?

Angela - "you don't remember, you don't know nothing, you miss everyone dearly"

HA then Angela and Jake telling George to just don't talk.

Oh wow. This last audio was convincing. They certainly sound paranoid about now.

'vine is with tc, and S is with ?, K is w/ her G family, B is w/his mom, and baby RLR is with the G family. ( I've no link.) I hope all of the children are in some sort of support/mental health counseling.
Read the 2nd to the last paragraph.

Edited to add: I was afraid to copy the statement to WS even tho it's on a TV news site.

I agree with the medications. Totally changes the way a person responds and gives them memory issues at times. Jail in county lock up, especially if one stays isolated, takes a toll. Seems he's been going to the gym, has glasses now, on meds. He even recognized his mother needed them before the arrests. I do think he cared more for EA than we think but AW was NOT going to have that.

It's in James Pilcher wrapped thread from this morning but I don't think this is the racist statement.

Here is what James said:

Rob Junk wants to reopen the rulings barring the perceived threats against BCI agent Scheiderer. Deering had said they were rants not threats. Junk says there is case law stating threats against law enforcement is admission of guilt. @Local12
"He keeps pushing me and pushing me ... he's going to have a very bad f---ing day." His head against the pavement and brains are going to spill out on the pavement. They took precautions against threats at the time - Scheiderer had protective guards at his house. @Local12
Threatening to rape Scheiderer. Deering says that's a rant. @Local12

Deering is wrong, wrong, wrong. I don't think everyone in Pike County approves of that kind of talk.

As reminder, the bailiff is handing out transcripts of each call when they are played, then collecting them afterward.

I bet his legal team responded to his little notes with U R Fd.

George is heard in the background saying he would kill an officer just to get the chair. Angela says stop talking on phone. Then George yells in background "Ryan I'm going to kill you" in reference to BCI agent Scheiderer

Rant or threat? Mr. Scheiderer is doing his job and GW4 making threats, call it like it is. IMO

It is not a racist statement. It's pretty common in today's slang. My parents who are in their 90s, just abhor it and will not believe it is now considered common.

Parts of the truck set up I wanted to see. Much thicker board. Simple design. Doable. JM2

I agree and add that those 2x4s act as a support. The weight of the hay/straw would be distributed over all of it and the 2x4s help . It's not as if the hay would be directly in the middle only.

I think he cared for Hannah as well. It's hard to say that knowing he murdered everyone, but I also think if we had bugging devices as the murders were being planned, then we'd hear a lot of the same types of things. Hannah is allowing abuse (with no proof of that) and it's not okay.. how much of their relationship (Jake and Hannah) was controlled and manipulated in the same way as the one with Jake and Beth? Constant accusations from Angela and then Jake trying to be middle man and he admits he doesn't think there was any abuse, but I don't think his mother would stop nagging about it. Then at what point did he realize not so much "if I can't have her no one will", but realized his mother would not stop if Hannah wasn't with him and under her (Angela's) control. Jake knew that his mother would NEVER quit nagging and accusing and he knew Hannah would not back down. I guess we will never really know, but was Jake trying to be a nice guy ever? Was the recording of drop off and pick up because his mother nagged and nagged and he was trying to show her nothing was going on? ugh it's hard when you have such a controlling and manipulative person like Angela that you feel the need to appease in order to get her love.

George asks "if we all go to the electric chair, would you want Beth to tell (daughter) about it?" That's it for the recording and we're breaking for lunch until 1.

Rant. G4 is one big ball of anger wrapped in a rant.

I think G4 might've made a comment about the Afican American BCI agent that came to talk to G4 at Angela's mom's house. That's probably the one the judge disallowed.

I'd have allowed it if it had any value at all. The jury are adults. It's a DP trial with eight people murdered. Why is a derogatory word about an agent deemed so sensitive? Their skin is thick. If it held no value then I can see Deering's point. Don't play it, just b/c they have it.

Judge said it was just a rant... Just that one particular part of the whole spiel that they played.
