Even with a suppressor, a 9mm is still fairly loud and requires hearing protection. Source: I've fired several different firearms with suppressors.
Have you fired one inside a home that is kind of like the proximity of those homes to each other. I feel it would be somewhat hard to hear that in another house, especially if asleep but I have never done that so I could be way off.

No, I have not. Only at an indoor shooting range.

ETA - I would imagine you are correct about hearing in a neighboring house. I

To my understanding, no. A hate crime is typically defined as occurring when someone is targeted for being part of a group -- singled out and killed for being a person of color or LGBTQ+, etc. -- not just when someone is killed because someone hates them.
I thought so, but wondered if there was a provision for targeting women. Most female murder victims are killed by males.

Maybe women should be a protected class against male violence.

With neighbors sleeping or some noise in their house possibly going on at the time, it may just sound like a musted shot if they heard anything. That many shots if heard even faintly by someone, may raise some type of suspicion though. Might not be enough that anyone considered it was a gun being shot in the house.

I know of a case that a homemade silencer/suppressor was used to murder two people in a house in two different bedrooms (average size house) and the person in a 3rd bed room did not even wake up in the same house. There were multiple shots also in that case. That person was also killed after the other 2 people had been killed.

It was Dec 30. Firecrackers and guns were going off in the city around New Years Eve.

No one thought anything about it.

On the gunshots… it’s 4 AM, everyone is sleeping and many people would not hear a faint sound like that and think anything of it. Before you even register the sound it’s pretty much over. He probably fired those shots in 20 seconds total.

Hey everyone,

Just a reminder that we do not allow AI-generated posts to be used as factual information. AI often gets things wrong, so we have to be very careful.

Using AI for inconsequential purposes is fine — for example, organizing your own notes, helping with wording, or asking general questions that do not change or establish facts in a case.

I ask AI for facts of cases all the time because it is hard to remember everything but then I source those facts myself with a Google search. I only include facts that I know are correct and the only way I can check AI facts is to source them myself.

However, when AI is used to present factual information about a case, those posts will be blurred. You can still read them, but they cannot be used as factual evidence in the discussion.

Here are a couple of examples of why this matters.
I was writing a post for Websleuths. I asked for a list of what happened on this day in history on Jan. 20th.
It gave me this story about a man who stole a tank and drove it all around a city. Except it happened on June 6th, not Jan 20th. When I asked how it got the date so wrong, it said, "I accidentally pulled the wrong date." LOL
I once asked AI whether Olivia Newton-John and Karen Carpenter were best friends. Don’t ask me why — I did. The answer I got was: “Yes, they were so close they even attended each other’s funerals.”

AI can be an amazing tool, but please use it carefully. When it comes to true crime, facts matter.
Thanks.
Tricia

What an absolute monster. Spencer likely tried to protect and Monique had to watch Spencer die knowing she was next. Then, he moved in on her to likely spew hatred before executing her. The only good from this is that they didn't suffer. I had wondered if the laid there bleeding out.

In some countries 'femicide' is now a separate crime of a man targeting a woman for relationship/sexual reasons.

It makes it, theoretically, a more serious crime. Whether it works as prevention is a different question.

IMO, many people feel inherently entitled to control their spouse and children, especially when they can't control anything else, but they use psychological/emotional weapons (eg guilt trips). The way some people, often men, choose violence is mysterious to me. But it must be that for them, killing these people is gratifying.

Is there evidence he was suicidal?

Jebus.
He shot their faces off.
This Dispatch article has a breakdown of where the shots were. Monique was shot once in the right cheek and the remainder of the shots were to her right chest, right torso, right forearm/hand and left arm.
Spencer was shot once in the left ear and the remainder of the shots were to his left neck, left chest, left upper back, left hand and right elbow.
