Agree, Metro has an exemplary trauma unit. They're always called upon to handle the most tragic cases in the area.

Prayers to all the families and friends.

I apologize if this has been talked about- why was he a 17 year old sophomore with "stellar" grades? Shouldn't he at least be a junior or senior? And he didn't even go to the school? Something weird is happening.....

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobil...ne-chardon-high-school-suspect_n_1306511.html

eerie poem that Lane wrote on Facebook in December

"In a quaint lonely town, sits a man with a frown. No job. No family. No crown. His luck had run out. Lost and alone,
So, to the castle he proceeds, like an ominous breeze through the trees. 'Stay back!' The Guards screamed as they were thrown to their knees. 'Oh God, have mercy, please!'"

Stellar grades as a 17 yo soph? And enrolled in Lake Academy Alternative School, an institution for "at risk" youths (troubled students)

This does not compute

BBM: respectfully, mrsu, I am sure you will teach your daughter that what she did was wrong & there's no excuse for it. You will make it a teaching lesson. Bless you!

Too bad the shooter did not have this support in his life. Seventeen IMHO is old enough to know what is good & what is evil or in the least have a basic understanding that MURDER is wrong.

Oh trust me....lessons are in full effect! ;)

I do think 17yo's know right from wrong, but I also know there can be so many feelings and emotions that can cloud judgement; especially for males who seem less inclined to share their feelings. I just think there has to be some kind of a mental illness with these teens whether it be depression or something more severe. I remember being a teen and feeling confused, even hopeless and lost at times. When you are so deep into something, sometimes you don't see it as temporary.

Very sad situation any way you look at it.

As our justice system now steps in here and we move to the courts, I have to say this.

In cases like these, where we know FOR A FACT, that this kid is the shooter, justice should be swift. Period. He did it. I understand all about innocent until proven guilty. I'm willing to bet the shooting is on camera. We have eye witnesses, he confessed, there is no "innocent until proven guilty" here. He did it.

Now, we will waste thousands of dollars on this and heaven forbid, he decides he wants a trial - costs even more.

Why? He did it. Sentence him. Lock him up. Its over. Just that quick. I really believe that in cases like this - the wheels of justice should move fast. But, instead, he will linger in jail and have court date after court date after court date and maybe even a trial after a couple of years have passed. Why? Why put the victim's families through all that?

He did it. Its over.

JMHO

Excellent summation & opinion. I share it!!!

:) I realized it wasn't directed at me.

Has anyone seen evidence of tweets from TJ Lane on the 26th? I haven't.

I'm still confused on how / where that photo (the three picture shot) and the tweet information came from (as it apparently isn't TJ from all accounts). I'm surprised media hasn't reported on it and I hope someone is determining who that kid actually is.

Bullets in the back of the head at close range don't end well, no matter how good the trauma unit is. This was an execution.

But yes, prayers for all concerned.

I was afraid that there would be three dead by this afternoon....
I think those three were all shot in the head correct?

Then the one who was shot multiple times and near the heart is in serious condition... (multiple times, by stray bullets?)
Then the girl is stable...

Hopefully this is the last of the fatalities... but I do worry about that other boy.

Yes. If I've correctly pieced the story together, the three boys that were targeted in the cafeteria were shot in the head at close range. DP, who died first, had even tried to hide under the table but TJ still went after him. It appears that the three he had it out for have all passed. Only the two students who appear to not have been targets are still alive. Perhaps because they were not shot at close range?

I worry about NW too. That he has hung in there longer than the critical 4-hour window we heard about yesterday gives me some hope to hold on to.

School shootings have always occurred. The reporting on them is much stronger now. This link goes through all the years from 1700-current. With several big ones happening in the late 1700's - early 1980's when you attended school. You just didn't hear about them.

Since 2005 the number killed from school shootings has DRASTICALLY decreased.

Thank you for the link

My mothers school shooting is in there(and I will add that my grandmother was actually involved in a school 'stabbing' when she was in school, which resulted in the death of the principal and I believe someone else, but unfortunately I can't ask her) it's interesting to note that the death count does not include the shooter, who killed himself in my mothers case. I wonder why it's not considered part of the death count. hm.

I was actually browsing through my mothers yearbooks this weekend with her, and was at the same time watching a documentary that was made about her school, after heraing the name of one of the victims I decided to look him up in the yearbook. In a very unfortunate series of circumstances, the yearbook decided to run the class photos alphabetically, like always and victim/killer are side by side, smiling wide for the camera. Very very disturbing.

The 11:00 PC was heartbreaking, and now there has been another death to report at this afternoon's press conference.

I expect the perp's attorney to issue a "not guilty" plea at the hearing today and then begin a rigorous campaign to have the young man diagnosed with mental health issues. Bring in the shrinks. Multiple psych evaluations. Paging Dr. Drew. Paging Dr. Phil. Surely, there will be mental health professionals that will state unequivocally that the perp is unstable and cannot be held accountable for his actions. The  made him do it. jmo

Three dead, and who knows if the others will survive.

I really hope there's no plea deal or that he's tried as a juvenile and walks free in a few years. Now THAT would be a "tragedy".

It seems unlikely that he will be tried as a juvenile. I'm guessing that this afternoon we will learn that he's being charged as an adult.

I don't believe in trying juveniles as adults and even I understand that an older teen who commits a brutal execution-style multiple murder is not going to be treated like a child. Trust me, even we "bleeding hearts" realize the line has been not merely crossed but completely obliterated in this case.

On HLN they just showed an interview with a female talking about the football coach who chased the shooter out of the building. Apparently several shots were fired at him as well, but missed.

Yesterday there were some reports of 10 shots. I also heard somewhere that the 22 was a semi-automatic so does that mean it would hold more bullets?

I thought about the teachers chasing him too - how brave. He could have just turned and fired at them, that is, unless he was out of ammo.

JMHO

The determining factor on how many bullets a gun has is by how big the magazine is, you can get 10 round magazines. I'm not familiar with OH gun laws, but here in California you can't buy magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. In most states you can get magazines that hold 30 rounds.

In all seriousness though, don't you think there has to be some type of mental health issues. Nobody in their right mind would think it was okay to do this. I think all killers have some type of mental health issue to make them do what they do. He's guilty and should be treated as such. In cases like this, there should be no option to plead otherwise, but I most definitely think he had some mental issues.

Death toll rises to 3 in Ohio school shooting
By THOMAS J. SHEERAN, AP

CHARDON, Ohio — The death toll rose to three Tuesday in the shooting rampage in an Ohio high school cafeteria as schoolmates and townspeople grappled with the tragedy and wondered what could have set the teenage gunman off.

The teenager under arrest in Monday's attack, T.J. Lane, faced an afternoon hearing in juvenile court.

Shaken residents offered condolences and prayers to the families of those killed and wounded at 1,100-student Chardon High School in suburban Cleveland. All three of the dead were students...

Yes the TH's will have a hay day with this. He deserves the fullest the Law allows for. I would like to see some evaluations not to defend him but could it shed some light on these shooters? Give us more to look for? Perhaps there never will be any concrete clues.

I am by no means trying to defend TJ, but I was looking through the pictures of him, he has so much pain and sadness in his eyes, he just looks like he's hurting.
