GUYMON, Okla. (KAKE) – Two of the five defendants accused in the murder of two Kansas women last year have pleaded not guilty.
Tad Collum and Cole Twombly appeared in Texas County, Oklahoma, court on Wednesday, where they pleaded not guilty in the murders of 39-year-old Jilian Kelley and 27-year-old Veronica Butler in April of 2024.
Collum entered a not guilty plea and a jury trial has been set for June 1, 2026, at 9 a.m.
Twombly, who also entered a not guilty plea, has been scheduled for jury trial on October 19, 2026, at 9 a.m.
IMO, the only updates I think we can anticipate are learning that these two trial dates have been pushed out even further than June and October 2026.
DittoSoon enough it will be two years since Veronica and Jilian were so savagely murdered. They got no reprieve on that terrible day, yet once again two of their butchers get to delay their time of reckoning.
Perhaps a meaningful reform of the U.S. justice system might be to raise the bar for what properly warrants pushing trial dates out again and again.
I ache for the families of these women. They may not be able to finish rebuilding their lives until knowing that justice has prevailed for Veronica and Jilian.
I am beyond thankful for this, but also mindful that she's just one part of the monstrosity that is this murderous gang of miscreants. I will keep waiting - no matter how many years, if it comes to that - for all of five them to be locked away forever. Thanks, @simlyme.
Tifany Adams will spend the rest of her life in prison, without the possibility of parole, for the deaths of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley.
She received a life sentence for each of the two counts of first-degree murder, five years each for two counts of unlawful removal of a dead body, and seven years each for two counts of unlawful desecration of a human corpse.
I don't agree with your last paragraph. I don't think it will haunt any of them. JMOI am beyond thankful for this, but also mindful that she's just one part of the monstrosity that is this murderous gang of miscreants. One day the terrible, barbaric, torturous and inhumane killings they committed will come to haunt each of them, inescapably. For now, IMO, they've convinced themselves prison isn't that bad. That's just delusion. When it wears off, they'll remember all too vividly the shock, pain and terror in the faces of Veronica and Jilian. No escaping that.
Two of the five suspects, Cole Twombly and Tad Cullum, have pleaded not guilty. Trial dates have been set for October for Cullum and for February 2027 for Twombly.
