One Direction star Liam Payne has died after falling from the third floor of his hotel room in Argentina. He was 31

I don't understand how you can lock someone IN a hotel room when you can unlock yourself from inside it though.

Presumably you can't...but ..if there was a member of staff in the corridor stopping him from leaving? If they wanted him to stay in his room to keep him from out of the communal areas

I do wonder if the hotel had a security guard ? I know it's not a requirement but if it was a high end hotel it may have ?
I do wonder about the rational of taking him up to his room instead of calling police or ambulance with him staying in reception.
But of course it depends on the circumstances which we have no official version of yet

A partial autopsy found that the former One Direction singer, who died at 31, had multiple substances in his system when he fell to his death from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Oct. 16, sources tell ABC News. Those substances included "pink cocaine" – a recreational drug that typically is a mix of several drugs including methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA and others – as well as cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack…

A hotel employee suspected of providing Payne with drugs on the day he died has been interviewed by officials, Argentinian State Police told ABC News. That employee has not been arrested and no charges have been filed against them at this time.

I think it's possible he had already jumped when the 911 call was made and the hotel didn't want to disclose it in fear of being asked the name of the guest and exposing him.

What about the articles that state this:

"Arriving police heard a thud and found Payne’s body in the hotel courtyard, Policicchio said."

I would be surprised if there were any grounds for legal action as generally the dead do not have a right to privacy. Otherwise, war and documentary/reportage photographers would be being sued left, right and centre.

Photos of the dead also appear on websites such as the Doe Network, of course.
That may be but it was a pretty crap way to find out he had died. Within seconds of him dieing TMZ had it on their website. Just disgusting tbh

In addition to my above comment-the autopsy may show in the state of dying he was already passed mid fall and it would explain the no defensive hand wounds. The state of the balcony will tell a lot. Video also. I got this info from multiple sources and tgere are multiple differing statements
Am glad they stayed with the investigation fully. Obviously he was very engulfed by his addiction as the previous ods have indicated. Only am hoping that in future no reports of suicide are made in haste. Also, rather than speed someone off to their room and supply them with drugs, intervene. Addiction is a known medical condition. So sorry, such a tragedy.

Three people have been charged in connection with the death of One Direction star Liam Payne in Argentina, a prosecutor's office has said.

Kind of shocked but also expecting it .. if that’s a thing.

I don't understand how you can charge someone for abandonment in this scenario?

There's a bit more in this article. I'm trying to understand what exactly the law is around this and what he is culpable for.

Basically it's for leaving him in the hot room when he was clearly in danger.

Article 106 of the Argentine Penal Code states that a person who endangers the life or health of another person can be imprisoned for 2–6 years. This can happen if the person puts someone in jeopardy or abandons someone who is unable to care for themselves.

Oh... was that person present when he fell and ran instead of calling 911? Because I don't seen how anyone would be legally required to inform the parents of an adult that he has been using drugs? Sounds like he was just a random dude hanging out with him, why would he be charged for not informing them about their 31-year-old son's drug use? Payne was evidently making his own choices, he flew to Argentina, he was spending money, etc. It's not like he was under any type of conservatorship, or am I wrong? It really seems like this person saw him fall and ran without calling for help.
