Homeschooling gets more and more tempting to me.

I don't know about everyone else, but my children have been subjected to "active shooter drills".. It makes me cry every time they tell me they had one. We only had tornado drills. My how times have changed.

It is absolutely, downright, disgusting that nothing is being done about this other than to experience it over and over and over and over and over again and then not change a thing.

What is the definition of that again? Oh. Yeah. INSANITY.

This is a national crisis.

This is a national crisis.

Absolutely.

I'm not kidding when I say it is time for people to literally peacefully storm Washington and demand action. REAL action. In great numbers.

It is a National crisis and our children and innocent citizens are dying and being terrorized daily, by our own.

It's mind boggling, and when a young person does something like this, it gets blamed on mental illness, but do they ever think about the mental affects of the trauma suffered by thousands of young people who witness these shootings every year? The fears for their safety for how many months/years later? It is only going to get worse!

This HUGE issue is staring everyone in the face! Something HAS to be done, and NOW!

sigh. I don't even know where to begin. My soul is weary. As others have said. Something is horribly WRONG.

While following this story I pulled up huffington post to see what info they had on the story. on their main crime page this is of course the lead story. Now look at the story just below it.

Headline: Bullet-Resistant Blanket Could Protect Kids Against School Shootings

here is a link to the story. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/10/bodyguard-blanket_n_5478344.html?utm_hp_ref=crime

An Oklahoma company has created a protective blanket that developers say could give children a better chance of surviving debris from a tornado — or bullets from a 9 mm handgun.

The Bodyguard Blanket, made by ProTecht, is a bulletproof pad designed to protect students during disasters at school. The 5/16-inch thick rectangle features backpack-like straps that allow users to put it on, and then duck and cover.

The product was originally inspired as a means to protect children from debris during natural disaster (tornado) but is now being marketed/touted as having a dual use. Protecting children from a hail of bullets.

What is wrong with this picture when such a product is even needed????? I mean natural disasters we can't stop. There is something very 'd up about needing a product in school that will also protect your child from a 9mm.

I am so disgusted and distraught. Every day. Every single day now.

When will we wake up as a nation and figure out something is not working as it ought.

I'm saddened we need to consider this for our children. I don't know, if we can't stop this -- we have to protect our children the best we can. Maybe these can be supplied in classrooms and used as part of a lock down. Logistically there's no way to ensure every student has one though when the shooting starts.

I just don't know what we can do anymore.

Oh, friends.. I fear for all of our children. How can we stop this? :please:

ETA: It's the last day of school for our district. I hope and pray most, if not all of our children will be safe at home soon.

http://everytown.org/article/schoolshootings/

Since the December 2012 shooting in Newtown, CT, there have been at least 74 school shootings in America.

(appologies for the duplicate post. I didn't see this had been posted. I'll leave it because I think it should be repeated.....and shouted from the mountain tops!)

That's an interesting thought re: backpacks. I grew up in Chicago and many schools there have been equipped with metal detectors for years. Maybe metal detectors at all of our schools could curtail the threat to children.
