I'm having difficulty opening that site as well, but from what I can see, The Portlander is a blog.

ETA: Yep, it's another paid blog site (and apparently on a really bad server).

"News For Portlanders, By Portlanders"

Dammit. Probably written by someone who was watching on tv or online. While the 'real' journalists were (IMO) told to sit on this, here comes this fool...

It's kinda obvious to US what happened here, why couldn't this person use some common sense?

If that is the case, and I believe it's possible, do you think WE should delete all references also?

No, we're not a news site, and so far as I know, haven't been asked to delete the references. We're a discussion site, where it would be expected that as members sat here listening to the press conference, and discussing what was being said, we would discuss the reference to a criminal investigation.

The responsible thing for us to do here is to wait for LE to make an official announcement or statement that Kyron's case has become a criminal investigation, when and if they do that, rather than take what the principal said as an action on the part of LE. Meanwhile discussion about why the principal might have said what he did is fine.

I can't get the page to load, but...

if they were asked to keep it under wraps for now ....

:furious:
Apparently many are reading the site. (YEA! Find Kyron!) It will load, but it takes minutes.

I am one who had strongly believed this was an important tip, but that is when I thought the siting was on Friday. Now that it seems the siting was on Saturday, I am no longer going to consider that angle. Too bad, since the child that was in the truck was alive.

I wouldn't discount it just because the siting was Saturday. It's quite possible he was taken somewhere Friday and then with all the searching of properties and homes the perp decide to 'get outta dodge' while the gettin' might still be good.

Or written by somebody reading here lol.

ETA: They do it because amateur bloggers (still classed as amateur even though they get paid by the click through) aren't held to the same journalistic standards as professional journalists.

I've learned to research new 'news sites' that pop up.

By looking at information through the lens of the collective community on ThePortlander, you’ll always find something interesting and unique. We’re committed to giving every voice on ThePortlander an equal shot.

Spreading The News
We have always felt that people like to read the news on different sites and on different platforms. With this in mind we submit every article as it is written to over 40 of the most popular social networking sites. This ensures that you can read your daily news anytime and anywhere you are.

I didn't hear the question, but the principal said he'd been told not to discuss that as it's an ongoing criminal investigation. Then Gates interrupted and whisked him away.

I must admit this made me chuckle.
He was told not to discuss what it was by saying what it was.
He's either not real smart, or he wanted to tell what was really going on.
I wonder why, he possibly didn't agree with LE about not informing the public, and decided to go against them, and tell us anyway.

Whether he did it on purpose or not, I'm sure he got at the very least a lecture.
Will he be arrested, or fired?
I hate coverups.

In the live news they just did, just caught the tail end of a girl about 13,caption said Kyron's friend, which means the older kids are around the younger ones.I thought it was seperate, older grades not intermingling with younger ones.If the older kids were running around that morning, one of them could have went outside with Kyron, maybe thought it was funny to play a prank and left him in woods. And got too scared to say anything, maybe thought he'd just come back to school on his own.

That's a forest and thier radius of search was only two miles out.I think an adult took him,but you never know.If he didn't make it to his class and wasn't seen, there was sure no supervision of all the kids roaming the halls till they went to thier classrooms. If it was an older child though, they probably would have been upset hearing he was missing and told by now,I hope.

Not necessarily, they could be 'bus' friends or neighbors or she could be a family friend etc..

He looked very young (or I'm getting old!) and VERY nervous to me.

Regarding open houses and events at schools, the security is usually lax. I am not surprised by that at all. I am a photographer; and, I often go w/ my best friend to take photos of her kids at award programs and such. I do not have kids in that school; and, I have never been checked or asked to sign in or anything.

That was my thought, too. Think of those kids that have disappeared with no trace and then shown up years later....

I'm sure this is the first time he's ever been in this situation.
I agree he did look young, that was one of my first thoughts when seeing him. And my second thought was how nervous he looked.

I guess great minds named Kim think alike. :-)

An odd thing to say. imo.

Here's why; the coastal area is closer, Hwy 26 goes from Portland to the coast, and central Or, is a mountain range away.
Does someone he knows live there in Central Oregon?
Lots of people from Southern Oregon know him, why not say that?
I'm just wondering, that all.

thanks for the info...Im in Central O.

Sheriff's deputies said phone tips prompted authorities to search more specific locations for a missing 7-year-old boy on Tuesday, but did not report any new findings in the investigation.

"A district spokesman said average absentee rate for Skyline is 20."

This is also from the link above. With 20 kids absent on a daily basis, I'm not sure why that wouldn't be an attendence problem, especially since the school only has 275 students.
