My thoughts go out to Lori's family. This must be extraordinarily difficult for them.
They should have set up something a little ways downstream that could "catch" anything large like a body. Just in case it came loose from it's location where the kayakers saw it. At least they'd have a smaller radius to work with in case it's not still in the same spot.
I hope they can recover her (assuming it's Lori) soon.
Let me share with you that I know many deputies in the Linn County Sheriff's department and have even met the current and past sheriffs. They are a wonderful and compassionate team and are known to respond to every call no matter how trivial it may seem to them.
I've been rushed during this holiday season and haven't had a chance to touch bases with my main deputy friend on this issue, but I can't imagine that they would take this situation lightly. For now I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that a recovery effort would be dangerous to the SAR team because I'm familiar with their overall outlook on caring for the county.
Also, please bear in mind that it has been raining almost daily here.

This man, David Sheldon, was a friend of Woody Blaylock (and of my sister). He died Tuesday when a tree fell on top of his van in which he was sleeping.
