Here is a link to day 1 of the trial. He admitted to killing her but is stating it was in self-defense. Her body has never been recovered, so it will be his word against any type of forensic evidence to the contrary.

Steve was a construction worker, odd jobs, roofing, cabinets. He wielded a hammer for a living (when he worked). Tell me he was afraid for his life against this 135# woman. Self-defense my eye!

I totally agree, Ellie1331. And I hope the jury agrees as well. It's such a ridiculous story.

Please let there be justice for Lori. I had hoped that long before now her body would have been found. She deserves to be laid to rest in dignity.

The prosecution team put their final witness on the stand today. It is my understanding that the defense will begin with their witness testimony on Monday next week. So far, the prosecutors have produced the following:

1. A to-do list found in his jacket pocket regarding all the things he needed to take care of once his wife was murdered. Such as, check on passport, paychecks, camping gear, etc. This makes me believe he planned to leave the country after the murder, and was prepared to camp out while on the lam.
2. Recordings of telephone calls from the jail to a family member in which he describes what he was planning to do with his dead wife's money. In one of the calls he refers to his murdered wife as a "*****".
3. Positive DNA match to Woody's toothbrush and the blood found in the back of the trailer he hauled her body in, as well as to bloodstains inside the home and on her sweater.
4. A video recording of the terrain and findings on the day he led police to where he dumped her body, where above sweater and her bra were found, along with a blue blanket.
5. A video recording from a bar in which he answers both Her cell phone and then His when a concerned friend called first her then him, to try to ascertain her whereabouts a few days after she was "missing". The video matches up to the telephone records provided by the phone company.
6. Paperwork concerning Woody's recent inheritance strewn across the living room floor.

That's all I can remember at this time.

His defense maintains that she brutally attacked him and he accidentally killed her in an act of self-defense. Their evidence of such to date is:

1. A small superficial scratch on his cheek,
2. A pile of feces in the room in which she was murdered, which forensic investigators visually identified as cat feces, but which the defense maintains "might" have been human feces and therefore lend credence to the self-defense claim since people will typically evacuate their bowels upon dying. Unfortunately, said feces has long since been cleaned up, and there is no way for forensic scientists to obtain it at this point to determine which species the feces belonged to.

It is my understanding that the defense will call witnesses to testify this coming week.

Here is today's news video regarding the trial. It includes some of what the defense's witnesses are saying, as well as an excerpt from a letter sent by Woody's sister to the news station, accusing the Blaylock family of stalking her.

My own opinion ONLY: if Woody was actually the behind-closed-doors crazed and growling husband beater that Steven Blaylock claims her to have been, she still NEVER deserved to be murdered, hauled off in a trailer, dumped into a river never to be seen again much less given a proper funeral, lied about, and portrayed as the "real" criminal afterwards.

I ache for those of us who knew and loved her. I send my heart to her friends and family tonight who so anxiously await the jury's decision.

I am so grateful for this act of Justice.

Woody touched so many people's lives, and it is unbearably heartbreaking to have lost her.

Steve Blaylock showed no remorse whatsoever this morning, his words to the courtroom bizarre and callous.

Here is a media link, more will be forthcoming after the reporter has had time to organize her story.

Peace be with you, sweet Woody. You are still loved by so many, and we miss you so much.

Steven Blaylock of Bend, Oregon murdered his wife a year ago, dumped her body in the Santiam River, then told a web of lies to police, friends, and family.

A jury of his peers found him GUILTY of murder last week, and this morning he was sentenced to Life Without Parole.

Here is a media link for today's news release:

MOO: I am so proud of the investigators, the DA and Deputy DA, the Jury who reached a verdict after only 6 hours of deliberation, Woody's friends and family and coworkers who showed such loyalty, fortitude, and determination over this last sad, long year. :rocker:

High-Profile C. Oregon Court Cases of 2011

Two missing women -- two husbands put behind bars for life.

The murder trials for now-convicted killers Steven Blaylock and Darryl Middlekauff captivated the High Desert this year.

On the surface, there's not much difference between Brenda Middlekauff's and Lori Blaylock's disappearance.

Both women vanished without a trace -- their co-workers reported them missing, and in the end, their husbands were convicted in their murders.

Remains found on Santiam: Are they Lori Blaylock's?

Nearly two years after a Bend man dumped his wife's body in the cold, swift waters of the North Santiam River, authorities confirmed late Monday that skeletal remains have been found in the Santiam Canyon, possibly bringing closure to the tragic saga.

You beat me to the post, SheWho.

I just got a call from my Sister (who was a close friend of Woody's). Not alot is known, but the location of the bones is quite consistent with where she was expected to be.

Woody's dental records are available, so this should be a relatively quick "yes" or "no".
