I still tear up when I read about this case. All murders are terrible of course but for some reason this one really gets to me. That said, I really don't think there was any sexual assault because if there were then I think they would have charged that.

So that leaves me in the position of wondering what could possibly be the motive. The picture I have of Melissa is that she was an incredible young woman at the beginning of a wonderful life with her new husband. I can't imagine she could have possibly done anything to tick anyone off enough to attack her. Sure Bryce could be just a bad guy that attacked her for no reason but that would be very unusual. There has to be more to this.

"So far,
most details surrounding the case have remained sealed from the public.

However,
a recent court document filed by prosecutors on Thursday claimed that
Schubert had been
'deliberately cruel'
in the final moments of Jubane’s life.

Prosecutors claim that

'the degree of harm or loss attributed to the current crime of conviction
was significantly greater than typical for such an offense'.

Additionally,
prosecutors said

'future efforts
to rehabilitate [Schubert] will not be successful
and there is a need to ensure the security of the public'.”

Shades of a Hannibal Lecter psycho . . .

Just thinking out loud - where did they find her? How did he subdue her? And so quickly? My guess only, in his apartment as that time of day maybe many going off to work so he had to move fast. This would indicate it was Premeditated. If so, how tragic, police were so close. Her car was found in the parking garage (but don’t see info. on when it was found). Police said they interviewed residents. Maybe search dogs smelled something at his door?

What I don't understand is why no one is talking and no reporters are asking questions of Melissa's friends and coworkers, Bryce's friends and old girlfriends, etc. I understand the court documents are sealed and the lawyers can't talk. And I understand both families probably just want privacy. But surely some acquaintances, friends, or coworkers would have something to say. Did MJ tell anyone that she thought she was being stalked? Had BS changed recently? There are so many details that could give the public some insight.

If those people who were close to Melissa want to keep quiet, and not tell all what they know to the press, let them do so. I think that shows more respect to to her memory, as well as to her grieving family. There is going to be a trial one day, and why should the public have right to know "everything" beforhand? Just to satisfy their curiosity? The suspect is not a danger to anyone now.

really wish we had some idea of what occurred.

I assume we will learn more when the trial or sentencing takes place. In the meantime, I am glad the media and LE are not reporting on the details of the murder, as this information made public will certainly be incredibly difficult for the family members and friends to hear. For now, I am glad they can deal with their grief without the added pain of the media reporting on the terrible details of the case.

On Oct. 13, Schubert and his roommate were told they had 24 hours to leave their apartment, according to court documents filed by attorneys representing the Baseline 158 apartment complex.

The eviction was prompted by Baseline 158’s notice of a “personal injury, substantial damage, extremely outrageous act or unlawful occupant” in Schubert’s apartment, the documents read.

Schubert and his roommate had been notified of the eviction on Sept. 10 — just days after Jubane went missing and was found dead two days later.

Schubert failed to appear in Washington County Circuit Court for the civil case on Monday; a judge sided with his landlord by default. Schubert is currently being held in jail without bail.

Thanks, @PommyMommy .

It appears the phrase used is legal jargon used in cases like this to evict.

At this link is Residential Eviction Information for Landlords for Oregon, and I found this exact language used in this part of the court information of procedures:
(underlining mine)

Before you file a Complaint with the court, you must give one of the following notices to the defendant (tenant) in writing and the time period in the notice must have ended:

a) 24-Hour Notice (personal injury, substantial damage, or extremely outrageous act)
(ORS 90.396)

When did she return to OR from her wedding in Hawaii (or honeymoon)?

Why no public comment from her new husband?

Had she been to work earlier in the week or was this her first day/shift due back after her wedding/honeymoon? It feels like work was quick to report her missing. (Reminds me of the Mamta Kafle Bhatt case.)

It seems like there is a lot of unsaid or missing info. Imo.

He is right not to comment as the case is not closed. Anyway, presence or absence of his comment doesn’t change the outcome, that BS murdered her.

My comment was from the first day after she was reported missing. At that point, she was just missing. Since she had just returned from her wedding, it seems natural (imo) that the husband might put out a plea through the media for any info, sightings, etc.

Obviously now that she was found murdered, BS has been arrested and charged, and there is a gag order, I understand why her husband is not making public comments.

<modsnip> I have been around these boards for 25 years, and I can tell you that sadly no, no it is not that unusual for a bad guy to attack a young woman for no reason. And that just because there wasn’t a sexual assault, doesn’t mean the assault wasn’t sexually motivated. For some sadistic killers, the acts of cutting, slicing, stabbing, and torture are sexually arousing and what excites them is to inflict pain.

<modsnip>

Unfortunately, there probably is NOT any more to this than a sick, twisted evil man acting out what was probably a long fantasized about scenario which he kept hidden deep in the disturbed depths of his mind. It may have been specifically about Melissa, but it is possible it could have also been any woman, and Melissa crossed his path that day when the circumstances were right for him, and deadly wrong for her.

We must remember also,
that he was "behaving weirdly"
days before the attack.

Per MSM reports in this thread.

Lesowski explained Beaverton police are still conducting follow-up interviews and pursing leads in the case.

“It is commonplace, as everybody in this room knows for additional facts to be known, additional superseding indictments to be issued, additional defendants to be charged down the road and all sorts of those things are possibilities in this case,” Lesowski said.

“If that 50-some page affidavit and that PC affidavit would be unsealed, it would unleash an army of people, of reporters and others, who would be tracking down key important witnesses, some of whom are terrified of being involved and it would without question derail what we have going on right now, “ said Chief Deputy DA Jeff Lesowski.

“I am denying the motion to unseal the records for a variety of reasons and I am going to make a clear record…It is clear to me that this investigation is ongoing, it is not completed, and this could cause problems for this case,” said Judge Rebecca Guptil.
