What about the bit that says if you are a high profile inmate: ' you are at risk because the other inmates and the gangsters within the correctional services will target you," he said. '? Should he have been placed in the main population then and to hell with the fact that he would be targeted?

Of course he shouldn't have been put at risk - doubt you'd find anyone here who would argue otherwise. Also doubt you'll find many who think he should have had his requests for a new bed, bath and gym equipment met. What do you think about that special treatment? Is it fine by you to treat him better than anyone else who is serving time in prison for having killed someone?

Good post. His family are hypocrites of the highest order. I agree he shouldn't be exposed to risk of harm - but all the extras he requested / demanded - proved he was being treated much better than other 'common' prisoners, but you never saw his family complaining about that!

What was wrong with his bed? Was it broken or just a bit uncomfy? Why did he request a bath? Were the shower facilities, complete with a shower stool, suitable)safe for someone with pistorius's disability? What was the nature of his complaint about the gym equipment? Do other prisoners routinely write requests/complaints about facilities? How many are acted upon? Without answers to those questions I don't think it is really possible to say whether he was treated favourably or in line with prison policy

Compared to what this guy went through, I don`t give a toss about OP's gym equipment nor indeed his bed or bath unless they were actually dangerous as opposed to uncomfortable in a princess and the pea kind of way. He could sit down to take a shower couldn`t he. I assume that is what Ronnie Fakude had to do. Bear in mind too, Mr Fakude was awaiting trial on fraud charges, not guilty of killing someone. Taken from The Guardian.

Soon after South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was released on bail to await his murder trial, Ronnie Fakude – a paraplegic awaiting trial in prison – was pleading for medical attention. In such acute pain he thought he was dying, Fakude begged for help to secure Islamic burial rights.

The 50-year-old Fakude, who is paralysed from the waist down, has spent the past 15 months in Bloemfontein's Grootvlei prison facing fraud charges. He shares a cell designed for 32 with 87 other men; has to wear nappies brought in by his family; and is forced to drag himself around on crutches without the use of a wheelchair.

Just a reminder, Wednesday follows Tuesday

Judi lives in Australia. It would have been Wednesday when she posted. She is currently 10 hours ahead of UK members. I calculate that her post was made very early on Wednesday morning in Oz.

Annie Brown: Oscar Pistorius case shows apartheid lingers in South Africa

“At the trial of Pistorious, there may have been a black woman on the bench but had the defendant been the same colour and from a shanty town, and had he killed a beautiful, young, white woman, many would argue she’d have thrown away the key.”

It is highly unlikely (not as unlikely as his intruder tale, but still unlikely) that his bed was broken, his gym facilities were unsuitable, and his bath wasn't usable. I'm pretty sure his very vocal family would have been in the press defending any claim that he was receiving special treatment if that were the case. While they have denied he's receiving special treatment, they haven't said his bed was broken, gym unsuitable or bath unusable. Until they're more specific, I'll continue to believe he is indeed receiving special treatment.

Why? There has been no evidence to suggest his requests were anything other than legitimate inmate requests. Why assume with no evidence to the contrary that he kicked off over nothing?

Why assume with no evidence to the contrary that the requests were anything other than selfish demands from a spoiled 'celeb' used to having his demands met? Plus, he rather made a habit out of kicking off over nothing.

Over nothing, when was that?

Because I don't start from the default position of assuming the worst of people until they prove otherwise.

If you're remotely interested, you can look for the information yourself.

It's been out there for long enough.

I see. So someone who kills someone and then repeatedly lies about it during their testimony deserves to have the best thought of them? Fair enough. Each to their own...

Where is the proof that he repeatedly lied about killing someone during his testimony?

I have seen the information. I have seen stories about high pressure situations where it has been claimed that he lost his temper. Like when he thought he had been robbed of a race in the Olympics. Is that the kicking off over nothing you had in mind?

Where's the proof rather than the media stories?

Parole board to meet today over Pistorius application
http://ewn.co.za/2015/10/15/Parole-board-to-meet-today-over-Pistorius-application

BB has inadvertently included a reference to 21 October in his report.

Parole board meets to decide on Pistorius release
http://citizen.co.za/afp_feed_article/parole-board-meets-to-decide-on-pistorius-release/

“I wish I knew what will happen, but there have been so many surprises in this case that I can’t predict anything,” Brian Webber, a lawyer representing Pistorius, told AFP last week.

“I do think correctional services have probably considered how unfairly he has been treated. He should have been released on August 21.”

Just watch OP's testimony, the cross examination part - if that is not proof enough to someone that he lied about the circumstances leading to her death, I am afraid nothing ever will constitute a proof.

For example:
In the general prison, overcrowding is a constant problem, more than 50 inmates can be squeezed in a cell designed for 30, all sharing one toilet and basin.

And while Mentoor says most prisoners complained about the food, Pistorius did it out of fear.

Modise conceded that there was only one resident doctor and five psychologists for every 7 000 inmates at Kgosi Mampuru II prison. He added that Pistorius would have access to a cell phone and that a suitability test would be done to determine if he had specific needs.

Burgess said Pistorius had been receiving regular psychotherapy from his own psychologists and those at the prison, as well as from a social worker whose reports formed part of the parole decision process.
