The family will no doubt be in the final stages of preparation for his homecoming. Lots of fresh food, smoothies because he can't have alcohol, and maybe they'll have one of these. It may not look like it but underneath the icing I think it would have to be a devil's food cake!

#OscarPistorius probation conditions include that he must meet with Reeva Steenakmp's parents - if and when they agree to meet with him
Correctional Services Minister tells @eNCA he hopes Steenkamp’s parents will meet with Pistorius, as part of their healing process.
Masutha: "it is especially the person who is the source of your pain, who making peace with is likely to bring the greatest healing.”
Steenkamp family lawyer says they are open to meeting with #OscarPistorius - but out of the public eye and at "the right time".

BIB - me too, just to see how laughably lax his conditions are.

I half expect that when announced they may look a little onerous (for public consumption) BUT, as with his bail "deals", they will soon be watered down to be virtually non-existant. Time will tell. It does seem that the family already knows what the conditions are and certainly OP does. I don't see him not drinking. I shall never understand how Uncle A got his bail rescinded for this. He already had a public record of drink related behaviour and I believe in his book (or was it an interview) he said he hits the drink when he is not training but as I have not read his book I stand to be corrected. Well, it will be a long time, if ever, before he trains for competition as he is banned until the end of his prison sentence.

No gun? A possibility, but I see him secreting a weapon somewhere at the first opportunity. His interest in guns was an addiction and addictions are not easily cured.

Meeting RS parents? That could be quite telling as they will be able to sense, I am sure, whether he is guilty of murder. Whether or not he is able to hold their gaze will speak volumes. Natural eye-to-eye contact will not be easy for him.

I think he will be shunned in public by most and I wonder, now the trial is over, how many friends he has left.

Oh well, not long now before we hear the conditions and, depending on what happens at the Appeal, we may be getting more feedback on his lifestyle in the not too distant future.

Some clarity now on video feed for #OscarPistorius appeal in SCA - there will be video pool in court but no decision yet on LIVE feed.
Officials saying there've been no applications for LIVE broadcast of #OscarPistorius appeal. Meeting to take place on Wednesday to discuss.
So in short - you'll probably be able to see footage of lawyers in court but won't actually be able to follow arguments live. Usual for SCA.

Even though Mandy says it's normal not to see the whole court process, I wish we could see the follow-up arguments and questions by the five judges.
Most people will have read the Heads by now, we will all get to read the written judgment but because of all the controversy of this case, the public need to have transparency on the whole process.
They need to put to bed allegations of corruption, incompetence and the rest by letting us see it warts and all IMO. Now more than ever justice needs to be seen to be done, whatever they decide.

When are this family going to learn that they need to keep their mouths shut and disappear from the limelight? You would think they had something to be proud of.

This is an article by L.Kelly maybe in response to family comments about OP having a "life sentence". Don't watch L.Kelly myself but for those non-UK posters she is a very popular TV personality/ presenter over last 20 years.

Like you ,on this point, I am expecting very little.
Apparently he is not even going to get a bracelet electronic tag. ??( Pls let me know if this has changed. )Let’s face it he's either a murderer or a paranoid "nutter" with a anger issues thing for guns, so safety is an issue, despite what his family supporters say.)

From what I read back in June about house arrest conditions for infamous convicts like Advocate Barbie case, the supervision and conditions were very generous.

With the 1/6th rule it feels as if he is being sent home to play along with the idea that he is still being punished. While he should not be penalised because he has a luxury home to return to, this 1/6th house arrest rule would be more meaningful if he was moving to eg. a prisoners half way house in downtown Jo'burg.

Hopefully he has to meet Reeva's parents without the accompaniment of his dear uncle.

He'll be welcomed home, still a hero for his family, I'm sure.

http://www.theguardian.com/global-d...pistorius-case-women-violence-reeva-steenkamp

Governments have a human rights obligation to tackle violence against women and girls. This includes delivering effective prosecution and punishment, coupled with efforts to prevent violence and support survivors. Changes within the justice system aren’t enough. Violence against women and girls is deeply rooted in gender inequality, unequal power, and dominant ideals of manhood that support violence and control over women. To end abuse, governments must challenge individual attitudes and behaviours, and ultimately change social norms.

Hi Madeleine, I am interpreting that as a touch of sardonic humour, but please correct me if I am wrong?:blushing:
Of course I agree that his family will give him a very warm welcome.

I think though that if the Appeal ends in OP staying at home on house release, for years, that there will be some serious tensions between family members such as Arnold and Oscar. Whilst they are cut from the same cloth I would guess the two have quite different, generational values.

From what I know about Oscar and his later teenage years, outside of boarding school, after his mum died, he was largely autonomous and had a great deal of freedom, not far off "running wild".

Is my memory failing me - I recall the family saying they no longer wanted to meet with him?
I can imagine how hard it will be for them to be that close to the man who killed their precious daughter.

Anyway, trying to find a positive note, at least the Minister, by talking about a potential meeting , is bringing the focus back to the victim and her family. ( Not sure I could meet with a killer myself, they are a very dignified family. )

I think June has said on more than one occasion she wants to look him straight in the eye. I think she feels she will be able to read his expression and know whether it was intentional or an accident that took her daughter from her. Maybe recently she has changed her mind. Either way, I would never wish to meet the killer of a daughter of mine. If it looked anything like a true accident I might just find it acceptable but this case is so far from being an accident and June does seem pretty sure RS was packed and leaving him, they argued and he shot her in anger and I think she is right, as I am sure you do. Will his expression show this or will he be a good actor much as he was with all the mewling and puking in court?

Thanks I couldn't remember how June was currently feeling.
Let's hope this meeting doesn't have to happen, at least not until he is back behind bars.
Either way I feel, it would be more upsetting for June, Barry than it ever would be for Oscar.

remember the trial- when they were going through the text messages and arguments; he blamed her for being upset, and when asked why she'd sent 'I'm scared of you sometimes....how you will react to me', he said 'I think she's scared of the feelings she has for me'. He's quite brazen with the untruths.

Well of course it was intentional. He shot 4 bullets, 3 hitting Reeva. Perhaps not premeditated murder, but certainly murder nonetheless. He got a slap on the wrist, compared to what others get for such crimes.

I hope South Africa remembers his crime and doesn't conveniently get amnesia within the next several years and richly reward him.
