Barry Roux is up for the defence. He says he was very careful and respectful with Barry Steenkamp yesterday and feels sorry for the family.

But he says the time has come to challenge some of what has been heard. He says the family story has changed.

He reads reports from friends of Steenkamp’s who described a good relationship between her and Pistorius. One said Steenkamp had said she loved him and would marry him if he asked her.

Martin says this was not what her cousin told her. They were close, she says:

Reeva had the opportunity to tell me she loved Oscar and she never did.

Roux now reads from an interview in 2013 given by Steenkamp’s friend Gina Myers in which she says Reeva was happy in her relationship.

Martin says she cannot speak for Myers. She says she doesn’t know what Roux expects her to say. She says she thinks her cousin was fond of Pistorius but did not love him.

Defence have had 6 months to work towards this hearing but hand over the psych report to the prosecution the morning of the hearing. WTF no 1
Judge gives no reprimand whatsoever to the defence for this late service. WTF no 2
Scholtz provides one sided assessment of OP based on his sessions with him and disregards all episodes of violent behaviour in his past WTF no 3
Defence produce an Icelander (did they fly her in specially for this?) to recount contact with OP from over ten years ago WTF no 4
Roux allowed to introduce OP testimony on his 'injured' hand when cross examining Mashabane WTF no 5
Repeated questions from Masipa about what the time is - can't she wear a watch or have a damn clock in court? WTF no 6
Pastor giving testimony says he doesn't want to be screened but is shown taking the oath and cameras are not switched until Roux starts questioning him WTF no 7

Agree. Masippa has been bought and paid for by Uncle Arnold. But financially speaking; She is fairly smart.

Because she was obviously paid the first time around. But she did such a good job making a mistake and knew that it would be appealed and she would have a 2nd time to collect more once she was forced to rescentence Oscar again. Jmo. This is her retirement case right here. Jmo.

But I'm also mad at the state for basically saying that they would be happy with 8 years without trying to appeal it.

This gives Masippa more leniency where she can give Oscar 8 years. In which he is eligible for parole after the 75% completion which would be in 6 years. Plus she could credit him 3 years for time served from day 1 of his original arrest (even though he wasnt actually in prison since day 1).

Which means he would only have to sit in jail for the next 3 years.

And then he can appeal the sentence and be on house arrest for another year while going back and forth to court. But once the 8 year sentence is upheld. Then he goes back inside for only 2 years. Which means he would only be incarcerated for 2 more years. Which equals a total of 3 years incarcerated in prison altogether from a 8 year sentence that he should have actually sat in prison for 6 years. Jmo

This is very tricky indeed.

I think the only important thing you missed was that he tried to quote from an interview that Kim had given where she spoke about Reeva and DV in a relationship. He thought she had been referring to RS and OP - Nel objected and Kim clarified that she was NOT referring to OP but to a previous relationship when RV was very young and so Roux apologized and dropped it.

Don't agree she was paid off in any way. She simply didn't understand the evidence or the law, felt sorry for OP and made a terrible judgment. She must feel like an idiot having to sentence him after her verdict was overturned.
