Othram - General Discussion - #3

Great way to start 2025... two case solve announcements out and so many more to come!

And if you missed it, we explain the new federal legislation that has just been introduced in the United States House and Senate that will bring so much more funding and resources to these unsolved cases. Read more about the effort here: The Carla Walker Act.

Honored that Othram could assist the Michigan State Police in identifying a 1979 homicide victim as Robert L. McDaniel, who was born in 1930.

We are doing our best to finish funding for this case: Who is Clallam County Doe (2008)?. Help us fund the case and we will send you free Othram gear!

Honored that Othram could assist the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in identifying a 1985 homicide victim as Barbara Heyward Manners, born June 9, 1951. We are grateful to RTI, NIJ, and NamUs for funding for this case.

@othram I’m fairly new to the world of genetic genealogy, so apologies if this is a silly question. But since Barbara was identified via DNA, does this mean that you would you have been alerted to any familial matches in NAMUS? Or does it not work that way?

I only ask because her 12 year old daughter was missing too. Barbara was from NY but found in CT. Perhaps her daughter is a Jane Doe too. maybe in NY, CT, or another state altogether.

This is one of those cases where the identification of a Jane Doe, is not the end, but rather the beginning of a deeper investigation.

from my math, it appears that othram announced 172 solves this year! Beating last years record by almost 30 solves!

So many cases solved lately I can barely keep up!

I would not at all be surprised if that number doubles for 2025.

If her daughter is a Jane Doe, we will be able to match the remains if we test them. Hopefully she is not a Jane Doe though.

Honored that Othram could assist the Mississippi State Medical Examiner & Mississippi Bureau of Investigation in identifying a 2022 homicide victim as Andrew Coker. Thank you to Carla Davis for funding the case work for this Mississippi case.
