If there is any silver lining in this horrific situation, it’s that a monster will be spending the rest of his miserable life behind bars. And even though there’s a moratorium on the DP in PA right now doesn’t mean that a future governor won’t reinstate it.

And I’m so glad they got him now because I don’t think he would have stopped with Kada.

RIP beautiful girl.

Agree.

Whatever drives someone to violently abduct and assault AT LEAST TWO women that we know about, murdering one of them and leaving her in a shallow grave, is not so far as I know (which ain't much) presently fully understood, or curable.

With this man there is an established pattern of behaviour that begins with extreme violence and only escalates. Bail should not have been granted, irrespective of witness appearance/ testimony. There was always a good probability he'd try again.

I am profoundly sorry for Kada's family and friends. Nothing taken from her killer will ever come close to repairing what they have lost.

Based on the timeline, iiuc, the car was abandoned at the rec center for a day and a half -- was that during the period of time LE was searching there?

It's sounding like he or he and another/others or another/others may have moved her body, buried her, then torched the vehicle somewhere else.

I'm curious whether the car was there when LE was initially searching.

So much evidence literally up in smoke.

He will never hurt another women, it's just so wrong, so sad he wasn't stopped sooner.

This was entirely preventable. Should never have been out of jail in the first place. Tougher laws and sentencing for DM and SO. This makes me so mad. Praying for her family and friends. JMO

Authorities confirmed that the human remains found at an abandoned middle school over the weekend belong to Kada Scott, the 23-year-old Philadelphia woman who has been missing since early this month.

Police announced that they found a woman's remains on Saturday following a detailed tip in their investigation into Scott's disappearance. Officials confirmed Scott's death in a press conference on Monday, announcing that new evidence was also discovered that will lead to new charges against the suspect in her disappearance.

Officials read a statement from her parents thanking the public for their support. They also asked for privacy as they process the “heartbreaking events of the past few weeks.”

"Your compassion, love and strength have carried us when we cannot carry ourselves. Kada was deeply, deeply loved," the statement said. "Her light, kindness and beautiful spirit will forever remain in our hearts."...

Even before the official moratorium in 2015, they had only executed three people since the death penalty was allowed in Gregg v. Georgia (1976), the last one in 1999, and all three had dropped their appeals. IMO it was abolished in practice if not in law.

Thank you, WSers! I'm always grateful for notes from pressers when I miss seeing them live. I know news outlets will provide recaps, but WS live coverage is the best. Thanks.

IIRC they originally searched the school on Weds 10/15 due to an anonymous tip. They found items belonging to her then. They already had the phone data which showed the two heading that direction, but had only searched the arboretum prior. I just feel like even with that info, they could have and should have pulled other surveillance. And then with the tip to the school - the rec center is right there. The parking lot is in front.

The Inquirer says that they found out about the watch late last week and then pulled footage on Friday from the rec center, and overnight Friday they got the anonymous tip that provided further details. If I weren’t for the persistence of the anonymous tipster, I’m not sure they would have found her. You’re right though, it’s crazy to me that they searched and did not find the disturbed ground the first time through. Really devastating all around
This is just me wondering. Did they PULL the surveillance for the rec center on Friday or did they GET the surveillance on Friday and maybe requested it earlier and it took some time to actually get it. Same with phone records. We live in an "instant" society and forget that not everyone gets everything instantaneously. I don't know what the answer to my wondering is. I can understand it when it looks like they should have had digital evidence, but maybe didn't. I can't understand saying you searched an area (the school) and missing a fresh grave. That one bothers me greatly.

Me, too. Why wouldn’t they use a cadaver dog in that area after finding some of her belongings?

Exactly!!

I'm wondering if they searched the school building but not the grounds??

What I was kind of also wondering about was if the body was buried after the initial search. It's a double edge bother for me. If she was there the whole time, how did they miss her? If they didn't miss her, then she wasn't there the whole time. If she wasn't there the whole time, when did she get there? If she was in a car parked at the rec center, someone should have been able to smell that. None of it makes sense. If she wasn't buried and wasn't in the car, was she still alive somewhere for a time? (I am hoping no).

There is more here than we know.

They claim they had K9s from the New Jersey state police there. I think I saw at least one from a chopper view from that Wednesday search, but idk exactly. I also wonder where the belongings they found were in relation to where she was buried and how they had the dogs search. The school and surrounding area is big

Only thing is he was in custody at that point. The community was also growing incredibly restless and they started searching the property, even breaking in to the elementary school, on their own to search. It would have been incredibly risky and difficult for him to tell someone to go bury her when he was in custody, and for them to go back where there was a somewhat strong police presence, and also community presence.

I honestly think that the PPD just missed it during their original search. I could be very wrong about that. But they botched so many things in this IMO, that I feel like they did just miss it, like they missed a lot to me.

No they weren’t searching the area during that time period from my understanding of the timeline.

She was reported missing 10/5. They started searching Awbury Arboretum on 10/10.
Timeline to me sounds like:
10/4 - abduction, murder, parked car at Awbury rec, leave car
10/6 - returns and footage shows someone carrying something from the car with Keon’s phone around that location too (so likely him at least there)
10/7 - car fire set on fire. Unknown to me when the car was towed and compacted.
10/9 - search at a home on 5500 Belmar Terr (I still have no idea what this is connected to. Was it that they figured out who was texting or harassing her, or just his number in general and knew he was one of the last people to contact her? Is this house location even connected to him? Why did they search here)
10/10 - they started searching Awbury Arboretum and from what I remember, it largely had to do with her phone last pinging around the area. I could be wrong about that though
10/15 - Keon king in custody. Anonymous tip sends the police to start searching Ada Lewis
10/18 - anonymous tip sends police back with more info about the location. Kada’s remains found.
** don’t know when the tip came in about the car, but it sounded to me like after Keon was in custody. I think they said something like there was a car fire around 74th and Ogontz related to Keon King. Not positive on that - it was in the presser today so I’d have to go back to listen. But when police went to investigate, the car was gone already and compacted. In the press conference today they do mention that the gold Toyota and black Honda accent are together I think during this time. So it sounds like someone helped him in some way with the fire or getting away from it or something, to me at least.
Please correct me if I’m wrong here

Thank you!

That's all very helpful.

I'm beginning to think the person that helped him did so under coercion/duress... and is also the tipster, fully afraid of him.

Starting at 38:12, there is discussion on the conspiracy charge for the arson, then later discussion on the two cars seen together and the possibility he had help.

I think it’s the friend of Keon’s mentioned by her Father in his news interview.
Oh gosh, you’re right thank you for correcting me.
