If there is any silver lining in this horrific situation, it’s that a monster will be spending the rest of his miserable life behind bars. And even though there’s a moratorium on the DP in PA right now doesn’t mean that a future governor won’t reinstate it.

And I’m so glad they got him now because I don’t think he would have stopped with Kada.

RIP beautiful girl.

Agree.

Whatever drives someone to violently abduct and assault AT LEAST TWO women that we know about, murdering one of them and leaving her in a shallow grave, is not so far as I know (which ain't much) presently fully understood, or curable.

With this man there is an established pattern of behaviour that begins with extreme violence and only escalates. Bail should not have been granted, irrespective of witness appearance/ testimony. There was always a good probability he'd try again.

I am profoundly sorry for Kada's family and friends. Nothing taken from her killer will ever come close to repairing what they have lost.

Based on the timeline, iiuc, the car was abandoned at the rec center for a day and a half -- was that during the period of time LE was searching there?

It's sounding like he or he and another/others or another/others may have moved her body, buried her, then torched the vehicle somewhere else.

I'm curious whether the car was there when LE was initially searching.

So much evidence literally up in smoke.

He will never hurt another women, it's just so wrong, so sad he wasn't stopped sooner.

This was entirely preventable. Should never have been out of jail in the first place. Tougher laws and sentencing for DM and SO. This makes me so mad. Praying for her family and friends. JMO

Authorities confirmed that the human remains found at an abandoned middle school over the weekend belong to Kada Scott, the 23-year-old Philadelphia woman who has been missing since early this month.

Police announced that they found a woman's remains on Saturday following a detailed tip in their investigation into Scott's disappearance. Officials confirmed Scott's death in a press conference on Monday, announcing that new evidence was also discovered that will lead to new charges against the suspect in her disappearance.

Officials read a statement from her parents thanking the public for their support. They also asked for privacy as they process the “heartbreaking events of the past few weeks.”

"Your compassion, love and strength have carried us when we cannot carry ourselves. Kada was deeply, deeply loved," the statement said. "Her light, kindness and beautiful spirit will forever remain in our hearts."...

Even before the official moratorium in 2015, they had only executed three people since the death penalty was allowed in Gregg v. Georgia (1976), the last one in 1999, and all three had dropped their appeals. IMO it was abolished in practice if not in law.

Thank you, WSers! I'm always grateful for notes from pressers when I miss seeing them live. I know news outlets will provide recaps, but WS live coverage is the best. Thanks.

IIRC they originally searched the school on Weds 10/15 due to an anonymous tip. They found items belonging to her then. They already had the phone data which showed the two heading that direction, but had only searched the arboretum prior. I just feel like even with that info, they could have and should have pulled other surveillance. And then with the tip to the school - the rec center is right there. The parking lot is in front.

The Inquirer says that they found out about the watch late last week and then pulled footage on Friday from the rec center, and overnight Friday they got the anonymous tip that provided further details. If I weren’t for the persistence of the anonymous tipster, I’m not sure they would have found her. You’re right though, it’s crazy to me that they searched and did not find the disturbed ground the first time through. Really devastating all around
This is just me wondering. Did they PULL the surveillance for the rec center on Friday or did they GET the surveillance on Friday and maybe requested it earlier and it took some time to actually get it. Same with phone records. We live in an "instant" society and forget that not everyone gets everything instantaneously. I don't know what the answer to my wondering is. I can understand it when it looks like they should have had digital evidence, but maybe didn't. I can't understand saying you searched an area (the school) and missing a fresh grave. That one bothers me greatly.

Me, too. Why wouldn’t they use a cadaver dog in that area after finding some of her belongings?
