PA PA - Kortne Ciera Stouffer, 21, Palmyra, 29 July 2012 - #4

Aside from the recent article I posted , I also noticed a concerning post on WS Facebook page that was posted earlier yesterday. Not sure what it's all about and I wouldn't dare speculate. I just wanted to make sure others are aware. My heart bleeds for this family, it's just so unfair and so unthinkable as to what they are going through.

I saw that, but it is hard to know what she is referring to, although there have been so many different rumors, it could be any number of things.

I have been following this case for a little while and from my reading and observation I have come up with this possibility. I apologise if this has already been discussed, but I have actually been dealing with a missing person case of my best friend's girlfriend..which as you would know took up quite alot of my time. She has been located so all is good.

Looking at Kortnes facebook page I get the vibe that she is a very free spirit and can't be tamed. There was a musikfest festival in Bethelem from the 3rd of August through to the 11th August. Is it possible that after the arguing with the neighbours etc that she thought stuff it and got on a bus to Bethelem. I looked at the musikfest page and you can volunteer with them, which I assume would give free entry (not taking her cell phone and wallet). The tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling tibetan Monastery were at the festival for the entire ten days, and I am wondering if maybe she went there to find herself and have some time out. The Monks have a monastery in atlanta GA....Could it be possible that she could be there or following the music festival scene around?

Interesting thoughts, I have always wondered if something like this may be a possibility? I learned through my own families experience to never say never because in our case a very unlikely outcome became a reality. Another out there thought along these same lines is that Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair ran from August 4th to October 28th 2012. It was located on the grounds of the Mt. Hope Estate which is not far from Lebanon. However, if Kortne was there, I would think that multiple sightings would have been reported. As a younger adult, I had many friends who would follow bands such as the Grateful Dead or Phish up and down the coast and even cross country. Still it seems unlikely based on what we know about the relationship Kortne had with her family. I can't imagine Kortne allowing her parents to agonize in this way, but I also can't completely rule it out based on my own experience.

It is a nice thought...but I don't believe even for a second that Kortne is okay and larking around at fairs. She and her mom seem incredibly close. I know that people do this, but I don't see it being the case here. Her family is suffering terribly and she would have to know that.

I'd love to be wrong, although then I would probably be angry that she had caused so much pain. But I'd get over that, if she was okay.

IIRC, wasn't the skull found with the remains? I swear I read an MSM article when the remains were first found. Regardless, doesn't sound like any information will be forthcoming for several weeks. LE and ME have their reasons.

I thought I read that too, so I started digging and came across this one below. This article confirms a skull was found and also states that the remains appear to belong to an adult. Someone earlier mentioned here that maybe the remains were that of a child? Either way, based on the other article that I recently posted, I don't believe the remains belong to Kortne solely based on the dental comparisons that were mentioned.

There are about 8-10 differences between male and female skulls, from what I have been reading. I just don't believe they still do not know. JMO

With all due respect I feel that every possibility should be ruled out. Perhaps I wasn't clear in my reference to the Monks, but I was wondering if perhaps she made contact with them or someone else that has convinced her that there is a better life than what she is living. I hate to use the term "Brainwashing" but we are all aware of different groups out there that prey on vulnerable young people to populate their groups and ideas.

While Kortne seems to be a girl in control of her life and very vocal, she also strikes me as a scared little girl that let things get way out of control.

Possibly she is not having contact with her family because she is being told that they are the problem in her life.

I just spent a fortnigh looking for a very close friend who disappeared. Did not physically speak to a single soul for the entire fortnight. She is a very responsible person who runs a business, has a close family and has always been in control. Thiings just got the better of her and she left. Luckily all she needed was a bit of time and did not come into contact with anyone that took advantage of her vulnerability. I agree with Bloodhoundsleuth...never say never. And by ruling out one thing it narrows down the possibilities.

Kortne disappeared on a night filled with anger, violence and law enforcement, which is why I do not feel it fits any scenario of her leaving to regroup, etc. I don't believe LE has ruled out her leaving on her own, but in my mind, I have.

The anger, the violence and LE involvement are whats making me wonder if she just thought: I need to get out of here. I assume Musikfest would have been advertised all over PA as its a massive event.

I feel the "love and peace" part of her would never allow her mom to suffer in this way.

I am a cynic who never believed Tiffany Tehan was abducted (she ran off with a boyfriend to Florida from Ohio two years back) so it is not that I don't believe women do this-just not in this case. I don't believe Kortne had the resources, that she would leave her dog, not take some belongings, not make contact with her mom, boyfriend, etc.

And as always, why only the one search???

Am I to believe that the family accepts what they have been told by LE (if they have been told anything). I don't have a facebook account so I only receive information about what Kortne's mother/friends have posted via my fellow WSers (thanks!!)

A while back, I was trying to look at this from Kortne's perspective and wondered a couple of things? Some people get into situations where they have a mental break. It's no doubt that Kortne had a bad sequence of events that night. Another stretch I suppose, but still something that's worth consideration. I questioned that maybe she was worried that she couldn't keep up with the bills for the apartment with her boyfriend in jail. Her father somehow knew that Kortne thought her boyfriend would be locked up for some time, thinking this was a bigger deal than it actually was. Then with all the ruckus with her neighbors that transpired, maybe she became despondent and just wanted to get away thinking she could never live there in peace again. I questioned that after that last visit from LE, she feared being arrested due to public disturbance (stomping) or possibly even considered that the neighbor who was involved in the previous disturbance changed his mind and wanted to press charges for assault. I have to wonder if she was there when the police knocked on the door the last time and maybe she choose not to answer, all speculation of coarse. I also read about some reference on her FB page about wanting to go to Colorado. I really don't know what to say about that considering I have a 19 year old step son who says things all the time on FB to impress his peers, but doesn't really mean them in reality. I'm just trying to think outside the box.

All of it seems unlikely to me, especially considering the relationship that seemed tight with her family, but then again I come from a situation where a family member walked off leaving two small children and his parents behind. Yet, in the same regard, everyone involved thought there was no way he would have just walked off, it must have been foul play. After multiple state police agencies were involved and a private investigator who turned up nothing over the years, my family just came to terms that foul play was involved. After 32 years, I located him and found out just why everything happened the way it did. Sometimes things just are not what they appear to be. I'm putting this out there because even though others think there is no way she just walked off, I know for a fact that it can happen and has happened to others. As for walking off without resources, this is exactly what my family member did. He was last seen hitchhiking away witch was not uncommon in 1977. No car, little to no money, and cell phones didn't exist. His license later turned up at a state fairground years later, and his apartment seemed as if nothing was amiss. I'm not saying that this is what Kortne did, rather it's food for thought. It's hard to say just how exactly these things will play out which is why I just can't rule out anything. This is why I never say never. In the same regard where others have said there is no way she could do this to her family, this is the same logic my family used and it backfired. This is why I am open to all possibilities. I am in no way trying to be argumentative, but until you have actually lived through something like this, it's hard to consider that something like this can actually occur.

I think because of LE silence most have assumed that they dropped the ball or are trying to cover up what did or didn't happen on the response to the last call. I myself have thought the same. But lets just assume that is not the case and see where it leads ues. Why would they not conduct searches, talk with the press to put pressure on last known contacts with KS or plead for the public to report anything they know or saw? This would lead one to believe that they do not believe a crime happened. I honestly believe WS is hurting beyond believe...however it often seems like she is talking to KS about her missing events that she would never miss before? Also sometimes ones family life is far from what it appears in print. We all assume she had no money...but maybe she had access to cash besides her fulltime job. Again my heart goes out to WS who I believe sincerely is in much pain and loves her dearly. Maybe just maybe LE didn't drop the ball. If something happened in the apartment to KS, I would think search warrant on her apartment and KS and MR car and MR home would turn up something?? I am not ruling out anything just stating anything is possible. I just want KS to be ok.

Why would LE have left crime scene tape in place for months if they did not believe there had been a crime committed? That tape has always bothered and baffled me.

I'm usually skeptical of initial reports involving the discovery of human remains because often they prove inaccurate. Sometimes skeletal remains said to be juvenile turn out to be adult, and vice versa. In Gainesville, FL last year remains found in a wooded area were said to be very old, which had everyone looking at missing persons from 20-30 years ago. As it turned out, the victim was a woman who lived nearby and had disappeared just one year earlier. In this case, the presence of a skull was confirmed when the coroner announced that dental comparisons were made.

I speculated that the deceased might be a child because the latest report said gender had not yet been determined. The skeletal variations among male and female humans are not well-pronounced prepubescence.

These are all very good observations, well stated and very insightful. I have wondered many of these same things myself.

I'm not so sure that this is uncommon. From what I've read, processing a crime scene can be a long and tedious process. Especially when there may not be a direct answer as to weather a crime has been committed or not. The scene can be revisited many times, especially as more information comes to light throughout the course of the investigation.
