Wait ... What ??? Disembowled somebody plus stabbed 21 others in less than 5 minutes? Wth? & he only had kitchen knives? Must have been some pretty sharp steak knives or something bc to disembowel somebody plus stab 21 others...wow...just wow...

One victim 'eviscerated'
The students who were hurt range in age from 14 to 17, emergency coordinator Stevens said. The injuries were stabbing-related, such as lacerations or punctures.

Four victims were in critical condition Wednesday, including one who was "eviscerated" and may not survive, Peck said.

The school said that half a dozen prayer vigils were held overnight, and counseling services are being arranged for students.

Defense attorney Patrick Thomassey described his client as a good student with no prior criminal record and no history of addiction to drugs or alcohol. He said his client is not a loner and interacts well with other students.

H**e D****t said she heard rumors that the suspect called an upperclassman earlier this week from a restricted number saying, "I'm going to [expletive] you up."

Asked about that phone call, Chief Seefeld said, "We're checking it out."

The incident also drew in federal law enforcement. The FBI was at the suspect's two-story house on a cul-de-sac, executing search warrants, seizing a computer and interviewing witnesses. And U.S. Attorney David Hickton pledged his help. He noted one thing that was not seized: the suspect's cell phone -- he said the teen did not have one.

Well color me confused - did he have a cell or not?

I'm thinking the cell discrepancy is just a CNN investigative mistake resulting in misreporting. Here's something from NBC that actually lists amount of FBI presense, etc. Think I'm going with this one.

He apparently had no cellphone, the FBI said. But he did have a computer, which the FBI seized.

And he may have left clues or other evidence elsewhere. At least 10 FBI agents and a forensics truck flocked to the family's home, and Scott Smith of the FBI said investigators were out in the field executing multiple search warrants late Wednesday afternoon.

I must have missed all this. Can you point me to these "experts"? Maybe there's a copy of the minutes of the meeting where they got together and decided all this? A research paper maybe? Even just an article in a journal somewhere, that expresses any of this stuff?

It's nice to have an opinion, and follow what you say with "JMO", but when you state something as fact (ie, "years ago experts said/did X,Y,Z"), you should really have something to back that up. Opinions should ideally be based on stuff that actually has happened, not vague feelings or theories that we have. A problem is never solved, or even confronted properly, if we make up our minds on the cause/solution based on a pet theory that might not have any basis in fact whatsoever.

With respect, you're probably not going to like my answer. Regardless of what anyone else thinks, I do believe that I am entitled to my own opinions.

I am simply basing my opinion on the fact that I have lived for 75 years & have seen vast changes in our world. Some changes have been very good, some not so much so.

One example is that when I was in second grade another little girl & I decided that we had more important things to discuss rather than paying attention to the teacher. We were both brought to the front of the room. My friend had to stand in one corner & I had to stand in the other corner for 10 minutes. Please believe me when I say that the experience did nothing to enhance my self esteem. I was mortified but I learned to live by the rules.

Our principal had a paddle in his office which he used sparingly but everyone knew it was there. The only kids I ever knew on the receiving end of that paddle were the school bullies & IMO they richly deserved it. As I stated before I do not believe in beating kids but it definitely got their attention & changed their ways. I have quite a few friends who now teach school & they are hardly allowed to frown on a student who is acting out.

At home the only thing I ever got a spanking for was shooting off my smart mouth & I admit I earned everyone of those spankings. My smart mouth wasn't completely cured, but it sure did get slowed down.

I admit we needed a kinder, gentler world than when I was growing up. Kids today need to be taught positive & negative consequences, respect for others & positive ways to express anger & frustration. They also need to learn how to handle disappointment. They do NOT need to be coddled, spoiled & ignored by either their parents or their teachers.

Later in my life I worked a number of years for a residential treatment center for emotionally troubled children. The abuse that these children have suffered cannot be imagined by any normal, decent human. Yet, the state child protective services rules limits some perfectly humane methods of teaching these children of action vs. consequences.

Anything said above is JMO based upon life experiences, nothing more. It is NOT my intention to offend anyone.

I can give you quite a few examples.

Everyone gets a trophy...IMO teaches nothing.

They actually banned musical chairs in elementary schools in my district....the rational...can't have just one winner....eyeroll...

Children IMO sometimes need to be embarrassed by their own behavior. It leaves an impression that's not easily forgotten.

Too many parents running around coddling their children and praising them for simply breathing leads to a sense of entitlement that everyone ends up suffering the effects of. IMO

a classmate says ... he was small for his age — "like a little boy,"— and that he was teased. "I'd witnessed people say things to him," she said. "I couldn't tell you who said. I didn't realize it was all that bad."

She didn't know what the teasing was about, but she described it as relentless at times. "They just said things. They'd ride him and ride him, and today was the day that he snapped," she said.

http://www.ksdk.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/10/teased-teen-snapped-classmate-says/7540233/

How can one know he is being teased relentlessly yet not know what the teasing was about or who did the teasing?

I can't understand why this kid didn't have a cell phone?

When his home life was described as Ozzie and Harriet or the Brady Bunch...was that literally?

Thank you!

Another one: Little Johnnie doesn't make the starting lineup on his ball team. Little Johnnie's dad challenges the coach to a fist fight rather than working with Little Johnnie to help him be a better player & help him to cope with disappointment.

I may really get blasted for this, but one of my pet peeves is school zones on the roads around the high schools. It seems to me that if kids are old enough to date, old enough to impregnate & get pregnant, & old enough to do drugs, surely they should be old enough to look both ways before crossing the street.

All above is JMO.

I thought I heard the victim interviewed from the hospital mention the words "butcher knife". I do have a kitchen knife that would be very dangerous in the wrong hands. It's my favorite.

The Ozzie and Harriet and Brady Bunch comments are just absurd.

OMG I thought I was the only person who felt like that about the school zones! I understand for smaller children, but really, if you can't cross a road safely by the time you are 14, something is wrong.

I agree we coddle children so much it is not helping them but hurting them. I always have to tell my husband to let our little one struggle to do things, instead of just helping her. Like, if she is trying to climb on the couch(she is 14months) let her pull herself up. If she can't figure something out, let her little mind explore and figure it out. And, of course I am biased, but my 14month old is much more advanced than some of her friends who are several months older. I always remind my hubby of the story of the butterfly. When a butterfly is coming out of its cocoon, it struggles, it's a fight, but the fight is what makes it capable to fly, as the force of emerging from the cocoon pushes fluid into its wings, allowing it to take flight. If you helped it out, it would never fly.

Now with that being said please don't think I am this harsh mom, I help my little one and comfort her when needed, but, I let her learn, explore and figure things out on her own. I think that is vital.

A parent of one of the victims said of Hribal: "We need to ask, 'What have we done to alienate this child?' … He apparently didn't have the support in school that some students did.''

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/10/school-stabbing-suspect-alex-hribal/7546693/

___

Speaking from the hospital, Hurt said he suffered a stab wound in the back and a bruised lung. He expected to be released as early as Thursday.

He reflected on whether Hribal would have chosen the path he did if he had more friends or a better support group.

"I feel he has some issues he has to work out," Hurt said.

Hurt's mother said everyone must ask themselves what alienated Hrabi so much that he committed an act like this.

Also Faw, as a young mother who grew up in an area many would consider backwoods and backwards, I share a lot of your views, and will teach my child according to those beliefs.

Same here, and one thing I will always be grateful to my parents are, two simple phrases...........Suck it up, toughen up. So my son, toughened up. He served in the Marines, and is teaching his son the same values. :)
