Is the actual post mortems available? Apparently backwards L shows up in some west African writing. If so it could be Alvji. It is indeed a name, but not all that common. I found this kid on Fb that could be aged about right but profile is locked. If they're brothers the other symbol may be for him and the Doe hadn't gotten around to tattooing the name yet. The one on the right looks similar to the Doe. His surname is Boavida which also appears in various places in West and South Africa.

Was he an employee of the shipping company, or had he snuck onto the ship somehow hoping to get somewhere else? I just ask this because of the shipping company uniform found near him. He also had a bag with food so he had expected to be there for an extended amount of time.
