Authorities are investigating the discovery of human remains in a wooded area of southeastern Crawford County late Sunday afternoon.

Troopers said a hunter discovered the bones in a wooded area off Steadman Road in Troy Township, east of Townville, on Sunday at about 4:30 p.m. The remains were limited to several bones that appear to have been at the location for an extended period of time. he bones were spread out in the area.

from the link - an update on other remains found earlier.

"Sunday afternoon’s discovery marks the third time this year that the remains of an unknown person were found in the Erie region. All three discoveries remain under investigation with no identification made.

The first occurred in early April when a volunteer cleanup crew found a human skull along Cascade Creek in Erie’s Frontier Park and subsequent searches of the area yielded more than two dozen other bones. Some of the bones were sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification in Fort Worth, Texas, where they await DNA analysis in an effort to identify the person.

Human remains were also discovered near railroad tracks on a state game land in Springfield Township on June 9. Authorities are doing dental analysis on the remains in an effort to identify the person."

Nice work. Three separate occasions? Hope it is just one person?..

It looks like it's at least two different people. The first find in April was a human skull along with other bones. Then on June 9th another set of remains were found and they are currently conducting dental analysis which leads me to believe they recovered a skull in that case also. This case appears to be "several bones". Maybe the latest bones belong to one of the two previous victims. ???

It's interesting if you go down the rabbit hole with BJ Ward's disappearance (including Youtube videos and some strange stories) it seems they searched that area pretty well. They even used volunteers and search dogs. Yet he was there the whole time.

He was only 36 years old and there is no foul play? Suicide? So sad he's gone so young. It is good to hear they found him and matched him to one of his parents. That must be a huge relief to them.
Man missing since June 2017 identified after remains found by hunter in September
After analysis by NMS Labs, the remains have been identified as William John Ward, 36, of Seneca, PA. Ward had been missing since June 2017.

Ward was identified after DNA samples were collected and matched to one of his parents.

The investigation is still ongoing. There is no indication of foul play.
