I wonder if revenue was down for the Carpenters. Hope is a grown woman, it appears that she profited well from their ministry. IMO, she was not a shrinking violet. Some American Christians love, love a repentant sinner. There is $$ in sinning and redemption/forgiveness. Books, Christian talk shows, appearances at churches.

My guess, Hope will show up soon, Ron will forgive her (won't go through with the divorce) and new books will be written and it gives them more material for their preaching/seminars. IMO, the whole story is a set up.

Kind of reminds me of the Gavin MacLeod (actor on The Love Boat) story with his wife. It was a long time ago but I remember thinking he was a 🤬🤬🤬 for treating his wife so poorly. He even took her name off their credit cards and bank account.

Gavin MacLeod - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"During his time as the Captain on The Love Boat MacLeod "very selfishly" (his words) divorced his wife Patti. She then spent the next three years seeking help from psychiatrists on both the west and the east coasts. Then one day, his wife received a telephone call from Patti Palmer, first wife of Jerry Lewis, inviting her to a Christian prayer group which contained a number of famous actresses. Gavin said, "From that day, I started to think about her. Something told me to call Patti. I called Patti. I went back to see her the following Monday and things haven't been the same since." MacLeod asked her what had happened. She then explained everything to him including that she had given her life to Christ.[5]

Following his conversion and remarriage, he and his wife wrote about struggles with divorce and alcoholism in Back On Course: The Remarkable Story of a Divorce That Ended in Remarriage. The MacLeods have been hosts on the Trinity Broadcasting Network for 14 years, primarily hosting a show about marriage called Back on Course

I sure hope you're right....

And what's so sad is, the fact that these members work 40 hours a week just to feed their families. I love my family at *Church of Christ. We are able to see the books and we know where every penny goes. We even have meetings to discuss big expenditures if needed.

My church too (Christian Church/ COC) and the preacher is UNDER the authority of the elders- who are elected by the congregation. Very little room for shenanigans. (Not impossible, but very little to hide behind)

I think the difference in the MacLeods marriage and the Carpenters, is that their conversion and saving their marriage was genuine, while if the carpenters are planning something like this, its all a lie and fake.

I can't. Comment on the MacLeods situation today, personally because I never knew any of this till I read here, a few minutes ago. And I trust nothing on the TV evangelists programs.

IF Hope is okay, they could have led separate lives for years, and now all this is a strategy to edge her out. Maybe she was threatened that this is the only way she'll get any money in the divorce or be able to see her kids. He could have had her followed and taped to finally get something to hold over her. I just can't see a very mentally ill person being able to have a secret life for years. They may have no church friends because they don't even live that lifestyle in private.

OT I just wanted to say that I love the movie The Apostle with Robert Duvall and Farrah Fawcett. The talk about apostles here, reminded me of this movie.

DuVall was great in that movie. I loved it too.

Per Hope being no shrinking violet, she indeed may not be but yet may be all at the same time. If I'm right in my assessment of Ron and his extension of how he's been to Hope, the free-spirited Hope people see is not the Hope she is free to be.

O/T but has anyone else heard about the pillow case rapist being released? I am sick over this!

I'm sure it does and it's not just for the Pastors. All church employees are usually bound by a moral code of conduct due to the fact they are a representation of the church.

Our church believes if a leader can't lead his home in a way that's pleasing to God, that leader is not fit to serve as a leader in the church.
^^ I think this is why Ron is acting 'shocked' and pretending to not have knowledge of Hopes alleged other life.

exactly. my father had to step down (by his own choice) as the senior pastor of his church because my mother did something horrible. he has never gone back to being a pastor anywhere because well, that house most certainly is not in order. (long story)

Just in case Hope is reading here I just want to say, You are more than the sum of all your past mistakes.

that is sweet (no pun intended)...

however, we do not even know if she has done anything wrong. we only have ron's word and at this point, means nothing to me.

grant it, reading her testimony she claims she went through a bad period - but it doesn't seem that is a part of the current issue - whatever that issue is.

According to Ron's personal fb - someone has informed him his account has been hacked - someone is sending messages pretending to be him.

:scared:

How do they know it's not Ron?

[sorry if someone already posted this, i'm partially occupied atm so not entirely up to date on the thread]

eta: the post did actually get a response from ARC tho!

I did some checking on this...

according to ron, there is another FB account pretending to be him. im not sure I believe it because I looked at that [alleged] faux account and it seems legit and current and posts links to rob's church. there are no faux links or info being posted.

I do not believe it is a fake account. I think he LOOOOOOOOOOVES drama and that is just another chapter in his book of drama. reminds me of Jodi arias on many levels.

Prosperity Ministries. Like I said, I unfortunately have some deep experience in this.

the mega church that my father was part of so many years ago in TX had a very unique way of getting money from the people. i wonder if anyone from TX reading this will figure out the church (it is no longer in existence though).

the story goes that the sr pastor started the church very small and some old man came to the pastor and handed him an old cowboy boot and inside was all the money he had and that God told him to donate the money to this pastor for his ministry.

every sunday the pastor would put that boot on the foot of the stage and the tithing/offering part of the service would start. the music would be drawing on everyone's emotions, the story about the boot would be told and it became customary for kids to wander down the isles to put $$ in the boot. i watched that church grow from nothing to a massive auditorium with all the glitz and glamour one could have at that time. the marketing was amazing and its scary how people can fall so easily for these glitzy shows. to this day, i don't even know if that "boot story" was real but it was VERY GOOD gimmick to bring in $$.

all of the pastors wives would literally sit on stage with them. i always found this very odd, but that is what was done. my parents would be sitting up there in their throwns (lol) and us kids would be down in front of the stage in an area sectioned off for "pastor's family" only. right there center front like we were royalty. @@

i find these mega churchs disgusting and the way they hold their services and behave makes me sick. i do not believe for one minute this is what Jesus had in mind nor do I believe that God condones this stuff.

I could be wrong as I admit im bitter.

this is the mega church we were part of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Lea"]Larry Lea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] my parents are still besties with him.

don't even get me started on Rick Warren. I feel his son committed suicide out of the horrible pressure of the church that he was in sin for being gay.......not for mental issues. I will never have a nice thing to say about that fraud.

I live in TX and have not heard of Larry Lea. I will read the Wiki article. I am still trying to wrap my mind around Lester Roloff and his "homes". IMO, TX does not have a very good reputation of keeping children safe...not enough regulation IMO. The Texas juvenile prisions are another gripe of mine. Kick backs to judges..People here that live in TX probably know what I am talking about. :moo:

Maybe we could stick more to the topic of this thread? Where's Hope Carpenter?

  • #537
I'm not so sure Hope was in on this, but instead forced. Unless she wants totally out of ministry it doesn't seem smart to allow herself to be labeled as someone with a totally secret culture and dress. How could she ever really recover from such slander and ever be able to earn a living in church stuff again. Mental illness and adultery, yes, but not what he's said about her. He even went so far as to proclaim she had no remorse or compassion.

um sorry. I thought that the whole mega church world was connected to what is going on with hope. I and others shared some of our experiences so that we could shed some light on the world that hope lives in because some of us believe it IS relevant.

we don't know where she is. we are speculating based on that world she lives in.....and this is in current events....im not sure there is a specific topic we are suppose to stick to. seems to be a few topics wrapped into one thread.

Great post!! Wow, that was very interesting reading there.

What you have to say is definitely an interesting aspect to consider. Nowadays, people get publicity for the wrong reasons (ie Kim Kardashian and her "tape").

So maybe for Ron, hiking up the drama would do that. he certainly alluded to that when he proclaimed "The world will watch how we respond to this right here. This is gonna go viral. There are no secrets anymore, and I will be a YouTube and Internet sensation before supper time. I can't control what media does and I can't control what magazines write."

After all, he can keep the mystery going, keep people guessing and then have a big reveal and renewal if they remarry or reconcile. Like how Nene Leakes, (who I do NOT like) of the Real Housewives of Atlanta divorced her hubby Greg ( it was a fake as heck plot) just so she could get her own spinoff series featuring her multi million dollar wedding. Big ole free wedding, endorsements, publicity, etc.

I would be really furious if that's what this whole deal was.

Personally, I appreciate yours and other people's stories and input about the culture of these churches.
