My understanding is that FBI did not ask Aruba to detain him. FBI could have requested that May 10th and did not.

I thought Aruba didn't notify the FBI until he was either already gone or out the door, so to speak. Either way, by that time, it was too late.

It's probably the forum as I am having problems also and with notifications of PM's and posts. I sent Admin a PM a few days ago but not even sure it went through.

FYI, since we are all going to all the foreign websites, it might be a good idea to clean up the cookies and temp files. :)

I agree, either deranged when on drugs or when needing drugs, or just mentally ill or has some kind of disorder. He seems to say whatever people want to hear, with no fear of incriminating himself, even if it means going to prison in a place where he will suffer terribly. He doesn't know how to serve his own interests, just the opposite. And it's in direct contrast to his intelligence and level of knowledge. I wonder what's wrong with him. I mean, does he have a compulsive disorder, some bizarre violent urge or obsession that he can't control/resist, as well as a compulsion to get himself caught? to incriminate himself? to attract the attention of the law?...or on the other hand maybe he has episodes where he doesn't know what he's doing if he gets tired enough or is on certain drugs. Maybe he has a disorder where he has flashback type rages or violent reactions to some stimuli. Maybe he has blackouts. Maybe just gets so desperate for drugs that he will kill for someone's spare change. Maybe none of the above. Of course all of this just my speculation and only if he did commit these crimes. Why does an intelligent person go and do these things, even if he didn't commit the murders, for example, why would he have even taken part in that attempt to traffic women to the Netherlands for prostitution? That's weird enough in itself. He's wanted for one crime, a crime against a woman, should be keeping an incredibly low profile, but instead goes and tries to get into human trafficking. Then travels to another place and supposedly commits another murder for no reason except I guess to get himself locked up in a torturous prison for many years? (Allegedly of course, we don't know for sure if he has committed any murder.) I just wonder about his weird fascination with the idea of selling women? Claimed that's what he'd done with Natalee. Went and attempted to traffic in women in Thailand... Weird.

Ahh...good question. I never really thought about it from that perspective...can't seem to get away from the "would've, should've, could've"...lol..

It's certainly a thought provoking question. In most "stings" isn't the money "ear marked" and traceable? I haven't read / seen anything in this case to indicate that this money might have been...in fact, I'm not even sure how they would do that via wire transfer. So, not sure we will ever really know where it went...but agree, if we know what he was spending it on, it might tell a little more about his mindset.

This also made me wonder...did he have any money in the bank or left at all? I know about the statement(s) from friends re: he's broke...but not sure how true that might be. But...I'm confident his accts have been checked by now and if there was money there / left with all this "sting" "extortion" news, I'm sure we would've heard it by now.

According to the Affidavit (http://media.al.com/spotnews/other/...ortion case against Joran van der Sloot.pdf):

$100 - April 15th
$10,000 - May 10th
$15,000 - May 10th

All I can surmise is he lost big...if he doesn't have any $ left. Losing that much, that fast gambling...might have very well been "a trigger"...one of many, IMO.
I would hope that the FBI would at least share that information with the Peruvian authorities.

Why would they move? They can't arrest him, all they can do is investigate what is going on and continue on until they get enough evidence.

Although I feel the $10,000.00 should have been enough, but it seems, at that time, with whatever was worked out, Kelly gave Joran the $10,000.00 as "bait" to show they are agreeing to go forward to pay for the information. Then they wired the $15,000.00, however, Joran left and the "sting" lost it's "stinger".

The 15k wired payment enabled them to charge him with wire fraud, they wanted to get him with as many charges as possible.

Heck, I have traits of being a "sociopath" at some point in my life.

ETA: Just to clarify, I chose these few for reference only NOT to claim ownership too!

Has anyone here every done this?
Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive.
